So sad that a lack of respect for fallen foes led to almost complete destruction of historic aircraft. I just don't understand the hatred., aren't you SUPPOSED to get there "firstest with the mostest" and UNANNOUNCED if you can? I thought that was common smart warfare.
@bloodmoonblooz - "don't understand the hatred." ... Huh? - Altho America did pretty much provoke Japan into going to war, the fact is that by the end American forces had been fighting a BRUTAL campaign for YEARS - so preserving aircraft for posterity simply wasn't going to be a consideration. By all means lament the lack of preservation but to actually say things like "don't understand the hatred." is utter stupidity. If the Japs had won they would have been no different in this respect.
@bloodmoonblooz - and as far as "firstest with the mostest" - again it's just plain dense to refuse to understand that being attacked that way resulted in Americans getting pretty damned cranky! You are actually quite right in broad terms - but the Pearl Harbour raid was a complete failure because they missed the Carriers. the whole point was to leave American forces crippled long enough to consolidate a new territorial position and not actually end up at total war.
@bloodmoonblooz - having FAILED with that first move, the Japanese were INEVITABLY going to get their asses handed to them so could have saved a whole lot of death and destruction by having the balls to quit right away. The Germans did the same thing tho - when Hitler turned away from taking Moscow and refused to commit properly to taking North Africa early in the war then they also stamped their asses with "return to sender"...

an aircraft like that today in better condition would probably fetch 1.5 Million Dollars

@ratatful
