LOVE The Cars now for over 20 years. My favorite, favorite band member was Ben Orr....I "worshipped" him. May he rest in peace. Thank you Northcarolinian for posting this......brings back wonderful memories.... :)
THIS BAND SOUNDS LIKE ROXY MUSIC..AT LEAST MOST OF IT'S EARLIER STUFF DID...SOME OF THAT WAS A DIRECT TAKE FROM ROXY..EVEN THE ALBUM COVERS TOOK FROM ROXY MUSIC..
Este album que escuché siendo jovencito me ha acompañado siempre.Es a mi entender un tema adelantado a su tiempo, con influencias pop, tecno, punk y rock & roll, por supuesto.Todo un clásico...

A lot of fans and "critics" just didn't "get" Panorama. Ocasek was far ahead of his time on this one. It was a big departure from the first two albums and was dangerously experimental and "darker" in tone. It took me several listens for the songs to hook me and I've been a "Panorama" devotee ever since. I would rank it second only to the masterful "Candy-O". The songs are an angular, pop-punk blend with sharp hooks that never let go,...not even 30 yrs. later!!
pop-punk? Hell no!! I'm starting to think you "just didnt "get" this album either. The Cars are alot of things, but pop-punk is not one of them. This is basically a pink-floyd style art rock album, (wikipedia was right for ounce) with more keyboard heavyness.
@natetheguitarkid; Pink Floyd style art rock album? I gotta say that that description has never crossed my mind since buying the album 31 years ago. I fail to see any resemblance. The Cars were part of the new wave scene of the latter 70's that evolved directly out of the even earlier UK/U.S. punk scene but with greater musical and lyrical complexity. The terms "punk" and "new wave" were even used synonymously for a while.
They definetly werent pop punk. ive herd the album called art rock before, and it seems to fit well with the experimental nature of the album. But unlike any bands of that era, each song on a cars album sounded totally different then the other, all having different genres. Well me being 13, can only think of one band that can challenge The Cars diversity, that would be The Beatles, but then again, different era's.
I love the CARS. When this album came out I had my little convertible and this was all I listened to while I drove. Listening to this now brings back all those memories.
@ryanhoyt931 Ha ha! I was in a 73 black Monte Carlo, jacked up in the back with SS Cragers and a new pioneer Supertuner II. I really thought I was hot!!
this was the only Cars album I ever had, but every song was worthy, and some were enormously catchy - plus all had their unique sound -- a very energetic yet cool & controlled vibe - a classic album, I'd say
i saw every tour from this one on.....i loved this album. American misfit kids and gimme some slack were big standouts. they opened with misfit kid in concert....the Cars,VH, and ACDC were my favorite bands of the 80`s otherwise that decade sucks musicwise
@benorrmagic i wouldent say Ben Orr had an unfulfilled life.....musically i feel all of his best work was behind him.....i`m a big fan so take it the wrong way..now Cobain had many great songs left in him. With him i agree with you
@ladybluluv Thats right they should be, along with KISS, Iron maiden , Rush , Foreinger, Blue Oyster Cult, Yes, Styx, Golden Earring, Deep Purple, Rainbow, Journey, Bachman Turner Overdrive, Chicago, ELO and now Motley Crue too, guys put your votes in today the list of bands missing from the Rock N ROll hall of Fame is to long
I think you are right-I didn't look at the stats for this album but I think it was one of the less popular albums-totally agree about a CARS reuninion with at least 4! I was trying to remember if this is the first album I ever bought as a high schooler-and I just cant -I think it was either Panorama (which I listened to all tracks a million times it seems) or Billy Squier -Dont Say No-thanks again for this!!
You are welcome! It is a real shame that Ben Orr died at age 53. It would have been if at least 4 of the 5 Cars members could re-unite. The New Cars without Orr, Ocasek and Daivd Robinson just don't do it for me. This is one of the less listened to albums, but a very fine effort by The Cars..
The Cars best song..
