  • I recently finished reading this book for class as well, and the fact is that most Americans haven't a clue to where their food comes from, and most of those don't really care. This book is a good history of the American food revolution, in how food has gone from single family production and consumption with incredible detail about the animals, to so little knowledge on what we are really eating and where it comes from...

  • I just finished reading this book for class. I found some parts of it to be fairly slow. But the topics were interesting and i think when i eat or buy food now i will try and think where it came from or even what is in it.

  • This was a very mind changing book. It highlighted the disconnect between people and the food they eat. It is absurd not to know where our food came from and what is in it. How can we trust industrial America to know what is good for us?

  • This book was quite interesting. Ilearned a lot about food, that I did not know before, and some of it was very interesting.

  • I hope that this book will shed more light on the problem with the food we consume today. I would like to think that eventually food producers will get away from preservatives and pesticides and the indredients label will be understandable.

  • After reading this book I agree that it is quite ridiculous that we know so little about what we consume today and think it is normal. However, there is not much we can do to enhance this knowledge given the fast-paced lifestyle Americans live today. This book offers a lot of interesting history and forces you to think critically about society and where it is headed.

  • The book has started to make me think on how the food I eat is processed and where it comes from. Now I want to know all this information after reading all the different stories Ann wrote in her book. Telling stories rather than just giving fact after fact was a pretty good way for her to express her ideas. I feel that problems will continue to rise about foods especially with this new era of organic foods.

  • I think that Vileisis' genuine interest in this topic drove her to write a truly significant novel. Even though she describes the evolution that occurred with respect to food production, distribution, and consumption, I feel like her novel really digs deeper. She exposes the vulnurability of society and our extremely gullible nature as human beings. No matter the conditions, we cannot stick with one belief on what the best product is, regardless of its nature.

  • I agree that she exposes our gullible nature when she discusses how advertisements are carefully constructed to manipulate our feelings to get our dollars. If nothing else, her novel is an interesting way to realize all the effort that goes into getting your money.

  • i dont agree with her when she talks about how we must know the historical factors that have contributed to our food eating habits in order to take care of ourselves.People know what it healthy and what isnt.If everyone on the planet read this book it wouldnt change anything. she brings up some good points in her book and i agree that people should know about what they are eating, but at the same time it isnt necessary to know every event in food history in order to develop good eating habits

  • It is so true that we are lacking the knowledge of what we eat outside. How do we know where the food came from and how it was cooked? We should think more about the productions of food than consumptions of food.

  • It is so true that we lack of knowledge on what we eat in restaurants. How do we know where the food came from and how it was made.

We really need to think about the production of food not just the coonsumption.

  • Now I think knowing what I eat is important for us after reading book. I myself did not even care to know whre the food come from until I read her book. Like she said, I could find some interesting and fascinating fact about what we eat.

  • The transition in America to a processed and quick way of eating was inevitable. Processed food makes life easier and allows people to concentrate on other jobs that benefit society. I agree that we should try and improve the freshness and quality of the food that we eat. It is unrealistic to say that we should know every aspect of the meat and vegetables that are placed on our tables. We need to know learn about our food, but with a modern twist.

  • I believe that over time everything changes because our way of life, at least in America, has become much more fast paced and is convienience based. In this sense I dont believe that it is a terrible thing that alot of food is in cans and is very processsed because it goes along with our way of life which is not going to change.
