who wrote thing song originally cos i thought it was somebody else?... i'm probably wrong though... sorry if i said it on there i was only listening...
Wayne Cochran, many others covered it as well as Pearl Jam. In my opinion, Peal Jam's is the best because it has a more appropriate feeling of sadness as opposed to the upbeat original.
I saw Wayne Cochran perform this song (and other) around 15-20 years ago at a bar on the Lake of the Ozarks. His voice had matured nicely and sounded quite a bit better than the original release (Wayne Cochran & the C.C. Riders, 1963). When he sang it, he joked about it being his biggest hit and how he wished he could write another one that would sell like that one had. The bar was small enough for us to get to talk with him. He seemed like a very kind, deep thinking, and humble guy.
dang, 15-20 yrs ago I was still singing with a milk bottle maybe, lol. But thanks neway HAppySpaceman for the comment. I think somehow songs from my mom/dad's time had more feeling and meaning and relates to life more. Not like the ones nowadays like those of 50cents and such, sheesh.

Since 1961 so many bands have covered this song but, honestly, the Pearl Jam cover is probably the worst. I think the version by Cindy Louper is probably even better.
this song rocks i love it my boyfriend adam told me about it and i loved it. its really sad when he explained it to me i was like aww lol well love it good video
bluefieryfeline, THANK YOU. Not only have I been looking forever for this song, but it's nice to see someone on YouTube who isn't a tool like dutchoven or DuzyMi.
Either way, GREAT song, and GREAT political views :3 Thanks for posting it.
why shouldn´t he , i mean a member of the plain public has no chance of expressing his opinion except on youtube and i don´t think anyone is searching for political issues on here so why not add a song title and a song to you´re messege so people can read what you have to say ...
Music and politics need not be polar opposites, but because they usually are, we can gain some comfort in how art serves as an elegant check and balance to the insanity of misguided politics and its minions.
I like your line of thought and I hope we can continue our discussion.
oooh, I did not hear about that. We get to much news of that moron called Bush. Now THIS one, he is deaf so it can't be due to the high powered amps can it?
So I waited to see this montage of photos. I a so glad! What great photos that I have never seen before. I thought I was going to see a video. Sorry, my fault.
blah blah blah, Hi, I'm Ed Vedder, Irrelevant Hack who wishes I could be the dissident spokesperson for a generation of Americans who don't give a flying fuck.
it's not the 60's. vedder's grasp of the political situation in this country is just as flawed and black'n'white as the policymakers'. call me when PJ makes an album that's not formulaic.
i'd say they're bad and the result of a system that was fucked up in the first place. that and the complacency of the american people. political music that viable artistically/innovative has some form of witty element or subtltey in it. Bye Bye Miss American Pie for some example. vedder ain't capable of that. Bushleaguer? His execution fails miserably. His delivery is painfully snide, served up with snotty, ain't-I-witty attitude
1. what does not being american gotta do with this? US foreign policies affect the whole world. They ought to stuff their own foreign policies up their ass.
I was in Iraq . I seen to much death . And I refuse to see it again .

ohsurfer59 dude, how about looking at it this way-
//Bcuz people fully understand the magic of music, the message music sends out.
So, they use that magic to knock some sense into the garbage called Politics.//
How bout that? :)
