He was a retired, peacetime National Guardsman who never rose beyond Colonel, and any suggestion this man was a US Army general is simply untrue. This "general" title is a Californian state title that is not recognized by the US Army. The only anti-war GOP candidate is Ron Paul. Paul and McCain are the only candidates with CLEAR agendas on Iraq, and they're on opposite ends of the spectrum. McCain wants to engage in nation building at the end of a gun and foreign occupation, like we're some sort of new Roman empire (they failed, by the way, and so will we). I hated this debate simply because Ron Paul and the other "minor" canidates didn't not have equal time, of course he never gets equal time in any debate, but he never gets to be fully heard on all issues. I am voting for RON PAUL, he will win. The bias opinionated media of course misinforms about the major support for RON PAUL.

Defending our country is like a game of chess you have to win the little places to make sure you don't lose to the bigger places. Iraq is a strategic point for the U.S. if we leave there (which all our enemies want us to) we would be very vulnerable, Iran would more than likely take it over. It would send a message to our enemies that we are weak and just wait it out and we will leave. That is what Mcain was getting at with the Hitler mention. You can't let these guys get powerful.

When people refer to US isolationism and WWII they usually refer to the way the US and Neville Chamberlain let Hitler take over Czechoslovakia and how the US did not officially support the UK until Hitler declared war on the US in 1941, following the attack of Pearl Harbor.

Jsvet is right, kind of. Isolationalism hasn't figured into US politics since before WWII. German military successes in Europe and the Battle of Britain prompted nationwide American rethinking about its posture toward the war. If Germany and Italy established dominance in Europe and Africa, and Japan in East Asia, many believed that the western hemisphere might be next.

Hey, I have sympathy for you and Mexican people who want to live in America. However, I feel that immigration policy is not the most important issue right now. The most important issues revolve around changing direction in our foreign and domestic policies to SAVE America. It won't do non-documented people much good if we allow the US to continue in the direction that it's going.

I missed the debate when it aired, but if this is an honest representation of what occurred on it... well I am glad I missed it.
Ron Paul made only two appearances and barely got to speak. While every other candidate wasted my time. Either way, thank you for posting this. Now I will be sure to find the entire debate and see why Ron Paul did not get to be heard from as much as the other candidates.

Referring to the guy as "Brigadier General", US Army, might be in error. He was a retired, peacetime National Guardsman who never rose beyond Colonel, and any suggestion this man was a US Army general is simply untrue. This "general" title is a Californian state title that is not recognized by the US Army. It's equivalent to an honorary degree from a college, or to Colonel Sanders' honorary title from the state of Kentucky. He knows this, and is hoping you don't.

If they allow illegal students to pay in state tuition then they should likewise allow international students to pay in state tuition since they had to follow strict immigration law and procedures in order to study in the U.S.

The idea about in state tuition is about who pays property taxes and income taxes that support certain state education centers should get the break. Living in the US illegally still might mean someone could be paying required taxes.

If McCain actually thinks we did not "lose" the Vietnam war then I question his judgment on Iraq. It appears that he is more interested in national pride.
Ron Paul's answer that the fact that we did not "lose" any single battle was "irrelevant" and correctness of our mission should be our guidepost. We accomplished more in USA-Vietnam relations with 20 years of peace rather than the prior years of war. National pride is never an excuse to go to war.

The only anti-war GOP candidate is Ron Paul. Paul and McCain are the only candidates with CLEAR agendas on Iraq, and they're on opposite ends of the spectrum. McCain wants to engage in nation building at the end of a gun and foreign occupation, like we're some sort of new Roman empire (they failed, by the way, and so will we). Paul wants us to engage in free trade and diplomacy and lead by example here at home (Thomas Jefferson, anyone?). Which approach is better for our country?

Wow...McCain actually grew a pair towards the end...it was nice to see some reflection of the candidate I liked back in 2000.
I really wish the editor included Ron Paul's response to McCain's troop opinion assertion...I liked the way he came back with the explanation of isolationism vs. non-intervention, as well as donor data that would seem to suggest troop's support for Paul's position.

Koresh actually invited the ATF to visit his "compound" before they attacked him. He had been visited by the local authorities more than once and they didn't find anything out of the ordinary. The metal front door was missing which could have proved who fired first and why the 60+ year old lady was murdered.

Ron Paul still has my vote, but I have to give it to Mitt Romeny. He took more of a beating there then anyone else. Still, he did well with the immigration question, and I believe he answered McCain's remarks about torture quit well.
I am upset though about how people take what he says WAY out of proportion. Mitt Romney is viewed through very prejudiced eyes in this country.

mykol - What about the UN inspectors who were there? They found no evidence of WMDs. To me that seems like substantial evidence vs. the Bush administration's very weak attempts to "prove" otherwise. Mostly using propaganda involving talk of "mushroom clouds".

Ok, I'll bite. In short, no, they don't pose a direct threat to our way of life. But if we don't change our policies they could, indeed, become a major threat. We are feeding the jihadist flame with our interventionist policies and their numbers are growing. If we don't start using smart diplomacy and economic influence to encourage the non-radical moslem world of the danger then we are no better than the the radical jihadists.

Islamofascists, as you call them, represent a very small minority among Moslem populations. Although they enjoy some support from larger populations we have the ability to influence this by demonstrating that their support of radical Islamist ideals is actually hurting the larger population. I'm convinced that the way to do this is NOT through the barrel of a gun, which only works for them, as Paul and others have stated.

In short, McCain is relying on the fact that most Americans have no idea what really caused WWII, but everyone knows who Hitler was and the "terror" that he represented. Pretty smart on his part, but a very weak argument towards anyone who uses their brain which, I fear, is not very common these days.

Well I for one am glad they asked, I live in Texas, and we can't get anyone to report on the Trans Texas Corridor. They are taking over 500,000 acres from private landowners, some farms have been in the same family for generations. Thank God Ron Paul is finally talking about it !

How come you liberals want to keep thinking the troops want to come home. This is a volunteer war. 98% of troops agree with the republicans, especially Mccain, and they dont like Ron Paul. You wont accept the fact that most the troops support the war even though the media kissing american liberals dont. Face it...most troops support the war if not all of them.

The facts check out. Ron Paul has gotten more campaign contributions from U.S. military personnel than any other candidate. You might also want to start looking into the highest rate of military desertion in our nation's history, the highest suicide rate, and the lowest recruitment rate. Well, most I know are not. I am not a Republican myself but do respect Ron Paul. Many people who are making a lot of noise about RP don't really know a lot about what hes about. I'm not saying thats true of you because I don't know you. But people hear sound bites of him getting riled up and speaking defiantly to the other candidates and get excited themselves. They hear a snippet about his platform, get rid of IRS, and they get more excited about the idea. But many still don't know the plans.

Not true bro, you'll find most supporters like me know exactly what he's about. I agree with him on just about every issue, except abortion, but even then I do agree, because I think it should be determined by the state. He's appealing to a large swath of disaffected voters and is being underestimated because of this. They only poll "Likely Republican Voters"

Excellent post. I think that only Huckabee and McCain had moments of authenticity (Ron Paul is also authentic, but his authenticity lasts more than a moment) Huckabee, when asked whether he believed in every word in the Bible and McCain on torture. These were moments when real convictions seem to come through.
