Remember how Activision would send jacket patches out for high scores and letters to them? I got a River Raiders one and a few others for just taking a picture and mailing it to them. Not many developers would do that nowadays. 80's gaming was an awesome time. Arcade and Pinball game rooms are all but gone now.
The red creature is Quickclaw the Cat and the woman is Rhonda, Harry's niece.
This was the best version of Pitfall 2 as it was The Adventurer's Edition which meant you had a huge extra level at the end of Lost Caverns (the version for every other format except the arcade which had a totally different layout).
something aint right here...i remtmber playing this whole game on the Atari 7800......it did not have an ending like this....Actually, Pitfall harry grabbed the silver bar and started jumping anound in the air repeatedly for about 30 seconds or so....thats how Pitfall II ended
ok, got to second cave tonight. cant pass the bats, the frogs, nor do i know where the hell im going... its impossible! is there a map out there or walkthrough???
This is in my opinion the greatest game ever released for the Atari 8 bit. The Atari version was the only version that had the second cave (the socalled Adventurer's Edition). Back in those days not many games had an ending. I remember being totally blown away by the ending when I first completed this game 23 years ago. I'm thinking of making a complete walkthrough of the 2nd cave one day ;o) Activision really had a lot of great games like River Raid, Ghostbusters etc.
@8bit64k i agree with both of you, this was awesome.... i remember the bats, the ants etc and the way we used to dedicate our young lives to this! If only i hadnt grown older and started hanging around on street corners smoking spliffs and chasing after women..... life was so much more simple in these days!!
A classic game. I remember the first time I won this, back in the summer of 1985 on my Atari 800. :) The "Adventurer's Edition" portion gave me many frustrating hours! When it came to games where timing and dexterity are everything, I was only okay at it -- a key reason why it always took me like three or four hours (or more!) to complete it.
The treasure hunt was only half the battle because you had to remember where everything was and go back to the special area once you found everything.
I had this on cartridge for the Atari 800XL in the mid 80's. I actually remember getting this game new, and seeing a contest flyer in the box, where you were instructed to take a pic of the screen if above a certain number of points, then send it in for a contest entry. I never did, but as I recall, the second cave was something really special to those who owned this game on th Atari. U had 2 get: The Raj Diamond, Quickclaw, Rhonda, the golden rope, flute, the charmer, and the cauldron.
amazing!!! Never heard about the golden rope. I tried to reach the final x-times but wouldn´t do it. Thanks so much to see the final scene once in my Life.
I remember playing this on the 5200 when I was a kid and getting goosebumps at the end - it was one of the first adventure games I ever played to have a real 'ending' sequence.
Ha, me too. The second level (exclusive to the Atari 5200 and Atari computers) was INSANE. I think the hint text scrolling at the bottom and the ending had me a bit mesmerized back then.
That must be it. I had the 2600 and you reached some goal mark on the floor and Harry just jumped up and down repeatedly going from side to side. I thought that a few things sounded different, the difference in consoles explains it. Still though, thanks for posting, I remember how awesome and revolutionary it felt to play this game when it was new!
Yeah...alot of cussing indeed. I played this on the 5200 and now play it on a 5200 emulator for the PC. Those bats were a real pain as are the piranhas that also appear. The second level had a ton of going back and forth in it to collect the necessary items for your eventual escape.
seems like the developers took a lot of drugs to make that ending

This is a kind of game: adventure-plataform.
In his time, was really great.
Then another and with more "development" was: Conan.

@sportygrrrrrrl11998 This is actually the Atari 800 version. The 2600 didn't have that ending.
