You did a great job. It would have been better if it were just a wee bit slower. But you know what they say; "Different strokes for Different folks". Nonetheless, great job. Work on breathing also. You take breaths in some bad places and it stood out especially two measures before section (3). Keep up the great work!
I would prefer a darker tone, especially for a piece like this, but I really like the effect you had with using organ instead of piano. That's a cool idea. Overall great job though! I've posted my interpretation of this piece as a video response. Keep up the good work!
more voicing work, long tone exercises, and a sound concept...who are you listening to? Sounds you play a lot of jazz...which is sweet!, but you need to be able to have two completely different sounds. Good work. My initial reaction on the organ was "oh no!" But I like it with this piece. Nice idea.
grade 7 is a music exam. there are 8 different grades 8 being the highest and most difficult so gr 7 is pretty good! the most common music school to do it through is the associated board royal school of music.
i looooove this piece it it was of my favourite. i am playing for a recital soon :) good playing x x
What mouthpiece do you use? it sounds a bit on the small side, maybe try a selmer E, with an optimum lig. or a francios louis lig. It might lose a little charachter though, which is definately what you have in your tone...
thank you very very much because of your kind comments!! (: HERE i used a Vandoren A27 mouthpiece and a BS ligature. what do you mean with "sounds on the small side"?!^^ again, thank you very much and i hope to hear from you!! (: bye. have a nice day
Nice playing, although I would have a look at the shaping and phrasing of your long notes, and the places where you breathe - it just doesn't seem to flow, the shaping of the ends of the notes and the phrases are just as important as the notes themselves!! however, you've got excellent interpretation! The organ is a bit overkill for me, dynamics are an important thing too!!!
Just some constructive stuff for you because it's so close to sounding really great!!
I'm digging the artsy camera angle. And don't feel bad about breaking the phrase to breathe- this piece is VERY difficult breathing-wise. Besides, there were many other moments in this piece that were absolutely lovely.
Great - I like this song very much ! Very good idea to play this song in the audience of a church, sounds even better than in an orchester. Well done !
thank you very much!! i like this piece a lot and i would LOVE to hear it being played on a flute (could you upload your version?! (; ) lovely greetings
i happen to be playing this exact piece and i have to say i like your tone and vibrato, but u went too fast and had absolutely no dynamic contrast or even range for that matter and it seemed like u just blew through it at ff. i think you could have done a better job and i'll post my version.
Fair enough... but you see.... that stuff is YOUR problem. not mine. (as jean-marie londeix would say). If you dont' know the piece well enough to have planned out your breathing then you shouldn't be putting it on video and posting it on the internet. And you are right, that stuff "does" happen, but even you said it "shouldn't". That doesn't make it ok. It's just a lack of preparation. good luck with the breath marks.
3.i shouldn't put it on the internet??? there are people on the net who record themselves eating a hamburger, and YOU tell me NOT TO PUT up THIS VID cause i stopped in ONE FUCK*** PHRASE???
4. you are just an idiot who has a bit too much spare time to write such stupid comments. i CAN take criticism but YOU are just ridiculous!!! try to get a job, man!!!
You CANNOT break phrases in this piece!! (1:12ish) This work has mainly one thing to offer: a nice melody. If you disregard the structure of the phrases and the momentum building to the climatic points in the piece, then you're not interpreting an "aria." Would a vocalist break a phrase of text right before the most important? Do you even, in normal conversation, stop yourself mid-sentence to breath? NO! Why would you do that when you play a piece based on a tradition of vocal music with text?
i think it's great how educated you are about the historic background of an Aria and musical theory in general. but there's one simple solution: i just didn't BREATHE enough! just as simple as that!! and YES, even someone who talks would stop the conversation if something like a cough/ hiccough/ etc. interupts his speaking. it souldn't happen but you see, it DOES! i hope it won't mean the end of the world for you.. (;
I've listened to this piece a million times and enjoy it every time, I can't get enough. I love the organ accompaniment the stop he uses for the echo is perfect, gives me this really weird feeling, very awesome.
I feel that some of the phrases are rushed as trextor said. I would love to hear more dynamic variation but I understand that the organ will prevent this to some extent. A more graceful ending, rit. and quiet. Your video comes out on top by far. You pulled of the slower tempo very well.
hi, thank you very much for your compliments. thank you! (; it's right what you're saying concerning dynamics (although the organ has some technical problems with this but i should have done it way better, yes.)
if you're thinkin of the part at about 1:05 (the "rushed phrase") it's not "rushed". you have to play THIS part faster, but the organist somehow stayed in the old tempo.. (; but you're right, i rushed at some other phrases..
so thank you again very much for your kindness!! (; lovely greetings
You're vibrato is very good, but you should try a heavier reed or moreover: a mouthpiece E to make your tone warmer. But keep up, you have the musicality.
Very well played, People normally bend the tone on the high notes and you didn't and I liked that. Also wherever you were (im assuming its some kind of church or cathedral judging by the type of organ and balcony) It added a very nice, open sound to the music you played. It was overall a great performance just watch out not to rush in some points and subdivide the notes so you will come in on cue with the piano/organ player.
hi! thank you very much for commenting! i appreciate it very much and thanks for your suggestions (yes , it was in a curch (: ) . i'm going to consider your improvement suggestions. thanks and lovely greetings!! (;
I take that back about the organ not being better than the piano... the organ way better!!! and cooler than a piano. the organ has something that you cant get with a piano. and your already on my fav list.
but why did you change your mind? im just interested in. (; but i'm happy that you like it. but you're right, Organ is an absolutely different thing than a piano. thanks again!! (sometimes the organ matches the sound better, sometimes the piano.. but HERE i like the organ better.)
i played THIS in another church last friday evening and it was professionally recorded (audio-cd). may be i'll get it and then i could upload it. i think it was a little bit better than THIS verion.. (;
your tone is wayyy better than the other one... but the other has an actual piano.. not an organ... and i find the piano better... sorry... maybe if you got one with the piano.. I'll be more than happy to put you on my fav list... =)
Beautiful sound on the sax, I would just lose some of the upperwork in the organ registration - it's sorta competing with you... keep it to soft 8' flues with perhaps with something in a discreet 4' flute for "bigger" moments. Just my 2 cents.
do you play organ yourself? (: i don't know very much about them.. i didn't think about it very much, because this man is actual a professional musician and plays most of the music pieces "impromptu" (without practising. or at least not very much..)
but thinkin' about it (and listening it again...) sometimes you're right! (; so thanky you very much for your improvement suggestion! i'll mention it when playing with him again! and thank you for your compliment on my sound!!! (; appreciate it very much!
embochure is the way ur mouth is positioned with ur mouthpiece and boy am i having alot of trouble with that.i'm currently using a crappy TJJ alto sax so that may be the downside to my tone.I'm using a Vandoren AL3 mouthpiece and vandoren size 3 reed. do u think changing my reed size might help? and the video would really help.and i really really like ur tone=)
hey juz wanted to know wad u do for tone projection and getting such a nice tone..i've tried a few different embochures but i dunno which is right for me..
well i've got a Yanagisawa sax, THERE i used a Vandoren A27 mouthpiece and a Vandoren 2,5 reed; but i usually "sound about the same", no matter which "classical setup" i use.it's difficult to explain how i do it(even because english isn't my motherlanguage) may be i'll upload a video to try to explain it a little bit better to you?!
yes, you're absolutely right (that was about the same, what my teacher also said to me after i played it..(; thank you very much for commenting ( and thanks for the compliment on my sound!!)
Du spielst verdammt gut, alle Achtung
leider bei 1:55 ein cut der etwas stört, aber sonst echt mega, solltest mal eine CD rausbringen, würde sie sofort kaufen :)
