Its quite funny how you see Eddie never really giving any plaudits at all to Dave. The way he snatched the guitar off of him at the end shows Eddie's disposition toward and invariably was a sign of things to come... Feel sorry for Dave.
I saw the Dallas show in 1993, one of the few times this song was played, and Eddie said something about it being a newer song he and Dave had written called "By Your Side." Assuming fans gave it the Angel name, but I wrote down the setlist (I was a dorky kid) and he definitely announced it as By Your Side.
I dont know why everyone is getting so upset about a drummer. Yes, dave may have been good, but things didnt work out. it happens all the time in bands. you get replaced. matt is just as a good of a drummer as dave. it doesnt matter. Pearl Jam was great with dave and theyre great with matt.
@LUVstufflikepandas45 he had a recording company free association records he realease an album green romance orchetra, rally great songs. now hes touring with the old NICKELBAG (BAG yes) a really underated band from late 90's. now they are the IMFs. search on youtube u see. cheers
@elementboy2 Even though Im a huge Ed fan, I wont act negatively towards the comment you just made. i do have one question. if you dont like vedder, why are you watching this video?
@dirtyfrank81 I didnt say I hated the music.. Look It wasnt Eds band... But they all cower to him because the media made him out as some one that spoke for my Generation.. and he was dark..like Jim Morrison..
But its a known fact that ED hated Dave.... My opinion about this is that Dave got as much attention as ED did...
Dave enjoyed the attention.. Thats apart of music... IF you look at the Mtv unplugged show.. The camera was either on Dave or ED..
The camera was either on Dave or ED.. sure the others got some attention but those two we the forces of the band.. I think Ed didnt like that.. This is my opinion.. Dave was a force in the drumming world.. The energy he brought was something drummers havent seen in a long time.. If you look at the band now its a shell of what it was.. And sure the other dummers are not bad drummers.. MC is amazing with soundgarden
Don't shoot me! Sorry I got confused. The drummers in order I think,Dave Krusen recorded ten with the band, then [mabe the best] Dave Abbruzzee toured on the ten album, please correct me if I'm wrong, then Jack Irons, and then finally Matt cameron.
Cameron drummed on the demos for Ten, but obviously couldn't join at the time because of Soundgarden. Krusen played on Ten and toured some, but quit due to an alcohol problem. He was briefly replaced by Matt Chamberlain, who only played a few shows with them (he quit to play for the Saturday Night live Band). Dave A recorded VS. and Vitalogy, but was fired shortly after.
Jack irons (my personal favorite) joined after that, and played, toured, and recorded No Code and Yield, but left soon after that record was completed. Matt Cameron was recruited to play their summer '98 shows, and has been with them ever since.
Thank's! I needed that, 4 real, that was allways confusing 2 me,I lived through those times but I can't remember everything. I was one of those guys who stopped listening 2 stuff like GN'R [not all together]. And started listening 2 Pearl Jam, they were probably one of the few bands I liked first off, I did'nt even like GN'R,and even S.T.P. when I first heard them, but they grew on me & now I love both bands after I listened 2 them more, but I liked Pearl Jam as soon as I heard them.
@TomSkell Wow I didnt know all that, Lol. Thanx for the Info! I still think that Dave A was the best drummer they've ever had. Cameron is good too. Just too robitic for me.
oh wow stumbled upon this accidentaly. dave is my hero and it hurts still to this day that he was fired. i wish he uploaded some drum solos or something. i know hes in a band now but i want to see more of his talent.
It sucks ass that they did not include this song in Lost Dogs .. probably one of, if not, their best rare (was it b-sides or a christmas single?) song! Such a shame that many people haven't heard this! Thanks Dave!
I said the same thing because I only had the song on cassette. But Vedder explained that because it was a 10 club single and to join there was a $15 fee to release "Angel" on Lost Dogs wouldve made it unfair to people who joined & got the 45 record w/ Angel on it.
Dave...Keep it coming. This old stuff with you in it is bringing back good memories and it's great to finally see some older stuff. Hopefully it doesn't get yanked off of You Tube.
Well said. Unfortunately most people who post can't get past the words "best", and "sucks". Maybe it's a lack originality or American Idol-idos. Both guys were and are great for the band.
i think this is Bridge Show 92 - mountainview, CA.
god, i remember listening to this on cassette allllllll the time in college. sending and getting bootlegs in the mail at the post office. so long ago, and such a different time.
it's always great to see multi-talented musicians getting to display their different talents to the masses. I never knew this was a song that Dave and Eddie actually wrote together. it's too bad their relationship was so rocky.... I really felt Dave fit the band the best. I hate he had to go.
If Dave ever comes out with something as awesome as Wellwater Conspiracy (Matt's former side project) I will change my mind about who the most talented PJ drummer is.
Its quite funny how you see Eddie never really giving any plaudits at all to Dave. The way he snatched the guitar off of him at the end shows Eddie's disposition toward and invariably was a sign of things to come... Feel sorry for Dave.

Yet more proof that Pearl Jam were nuts to give a talented bloke like Dave the boot.

It's not about who's the "most talented" drummer ... it's who fits within the group best. The Dave's are good and so are the Matt's.
