Name logic watered down:

6850 = 6000 Series, 800 (Top end budget card), 50 (Average Performance).

6970 = 6000 Series, 900 (Top end performance card), 70 (Good Performance).

6990 = 6000 Series, 900 (Top end performance card), 90 (Best Performance).

The "50" and "70" variants typically get outperformed by the lower performance but newer series cards.

E.g. 7950 is better than the 6970.

The "90" cards rape everything and require a newer series "90" card to unseat them.

E.g. 6990 beats the 7970.

There's no way a 590 would ever be able to get the same throughput that a 6990 could. The GF100 core is way hotter, therefore shoving two into one card limits how far it can go without drastic cooling solutions.

So ether ATI use crappy hardware construction scheme (i seriously daub that) or the software department can't do their job. In the end the reason we buy new cards is to PLAY.

Nope. Factory settings, the GTX 590 is *THEORETICALLY* faster and does better quality graphics. The 6990 is cheaper, better for video games, and it can be overclocked.

The 6990 Crossfire, however, shits on all of the other cards completely.

Paying huge amounts for gaming laptops is really good if you can afford to pay for it and accept the very limited mobility due to weigh/battery life and the less price effective hardware-but they really don't work half as good as desktops in games/apps/editing and the mobility is just awful on anything less than 2K. If you don't mind try Samsungs 700Z5A-PSG magazine gave it 90% and it is 1000GBP though.

The 590 had drivers that were burning it up. And Nvidia people like to say AMD has crappy drivers. Maybe that fumes emitted from the 590 cooking itself up has messed with their brains.

When the 590 first came out, the drivers were so bad it was burning them up in the case! Nvidia had to scramble to find a fix - cost them a lot time and money.

That is why I laugh when Nvidia people knock on AMD drivers.

But the 590 is a helluva nice card.

The reason you are having trouble with those games is because some games don't use SLi very well (if at all). Try looking online for a fix for whichever game you need it for.

The 590 is essentially two 570's. Unfortunately, some games don't support SLi, and in the games that don't you will have trouble.

@ShroedingerWatcher You are really complaining - I understand your concerns. I have a 6970X2 and have trouble with a ton of games, myself (typical dual-card issues).

The 590 tied for the most powerful GPU available, and even with the problems aforementioned, it is one amazing piece of hardware.

There is a good chance that updates from Steam will help, as Steam often releases various fixes via updates for popular problems, and the 590 is a mainstream card, high priority and a lot of $ involved.
