  • god bless you water tutorial man. you help me under stand why my water in my auto farm not work the way i want it. thank you so much

  • I FUCKING HATE WATER!!! sorry i had to get that out

  • 14 people dont even know waht water is.

  • a "stream source" doesn't try to spread in 5 directions like a source block.

  • Water is easy

  • Fucking water, how does it work?

  • Now all you people who thinks tutorials should be a notepad text with some crappy music. Think again buddy! This IS the only true way to make tutorials that all can understand. Awesome work! Keep it up Etho! <3

  • you should make updated verison of this also with more advenced things what you can do with water now :)

anyway totaly cool tutorial. thank you

  • 53,670 viever

  • A: This was VERY cool

    B: This was VERY helpful

C: Who the hell would dislike this?

  • 53.000 viewer :D

  • only etho could make a water tutorial

  • Well does iceblock work in nether or not?

  • Thank you! I had somehow created a bizarre whirlpool in some water outside my home and now I understand how to fix it (build up solid blocks underneath the water until it is 1 block deep).

  • omg thank you so much etho i am new to minecraft :D i think your the best teacher

  • I never knew it was this hard to explain water

  • you could have made more!

  • @TheBjossi80 I think if you get a silk touch pick you can get an ice block, which melts to water in the nether. I'm not actually sure though :/

  • @Scoonezy132 nope! its patched! cant get ice blocks with silk touch anymore!

  • thank you so much for the tutorial really helps out with things i dont know about water physics.

Could you by chance make one on 1.0 mob science and specs

  • God im starting to love ethos vids now

  • cant we find a way to use water in nederlands?

  • 20min listening to u talk about water ... I have to pee

  • Now... How about lava?

  • @arcade90909 Lava is the same thing except it only flows 3 blocks away from it's source, and it can't be duplicated, you can't make infinite lava source blocks.

  • This is awesome on so many levels. Thanks Etho.

  • Dude, simply amazing. Keep it up.

  • Hey, EthosLab, it's an amazing huge tutorial! Now I understand properly why the water flows in which direction. Well done =)

  • I have been frustrated with people, especially those who make ships or pools, without first considering the "Under-toe" effect. that is why i always try to correct people and teach them. However, they respond only in confusion or disinterest. Perhaps i am a perfectionist, but there is nothing more more angering then trying to swim up for air, and dying from the under-toe (also, it looks ugly!)

  • Anyone else notice the dog bark at 24:45?

  • Jesus can walk on water

Chuck Norris can swim on land

    Notch can walk on lava

  • Of course Etho makes a 30 minute tutorial on... water. I love you Etho. :)

  • 44.000th viewer!!!

  • Comment removed

  • I remember the first time i played with water i waited 20 mins for my pool to fill up XD

  • HOLY...! i watched the whole thing... ive learned useless knowledge!!!....ps thnx, i needed this, now ill go smack talk my nerd friends

....im serious im a nerd 2,

  • @klekle8 cool story bro

  • :)

  • Excellent tutorial! I learnt a lot from it!

  • I love Ur videos keep it up!

  • I love how you said signs can tell you things

  • Am I the first person to reset updated water with remote pistons? Hooray for noiseless traps!

  • @onecommentaccount not u only etho made a bud switch

  • @weafnoob 1) Etho's BUD was not the first. 2) I'm not talking about a regular BUD. I made a silent BUD.

  • @onecommentaccount Silent = ? no noise when u reset? show it then

  • +1 for punchable tnt

  • Now i need to find Killerhuehnchen's comment. -_-

  • 26:59 Cave Story :D

  • 25:30 very helpful.

  • @GG4UPremium im stalking u....

    lol yes its helpful

  • I really enjoyed your tutorial!!!!

    And i learned a lot

    GOOG JOB!!! :)

  • I wonder how long a Redstone tutorial would be, if already a water tutorial is half an hour long^^

  • Oh My God, I'm 33333th viewer :D

  • i hate redstone its soo complicated!

  • Very interesting

  • wow, I dint knew water had SO many rules

  • 0:58 WOAH, I HAD NO IDEA YOU COULD DO THAT!

    /sarcasm

  • @KuruKuruGuy87 slimes can climb ladders though, so it is possible :)

  • First to "react". (I picked incredible!)

  • 7:56 8:42 24:40 murder

  • 9 people dont know how to use water

  • @zergful2000 however 1019 people know it now :E

  • thanks for the vid man thats going to be extremely helpful in making my mob trap that i was having issues with!!

  • leave it to etho to make a 29 minute long video about water -.- great video by the way :)

  • can i have a link for your skin

  • I thought that Wheat will still grow on unhydrated soil, just alot slower

  • Я тоже фан Kakashi ^_^

  • The Minecraft sun rises in the north. Just saying.

  • @ChilliConCarnage625 how do you know its the north?what are you basing that theory on?lol

  • @harry781012 clouds go north

  • @ChilliConCarnage625 *mind blown*.......

  • God damn. "complicated"? iPhone :/

  • "water is the most complicated block in minecraft"

Reminds me of an Albert Einstein playing minecraft. Making things so complicated lol xD

  • Will the pushing up the stair trick work on slimes?

  • Excellent tutorial! I learned a lot today xD

  • I think you should add all this info to Minecraft wiki, it's very useful for everyone

    Congratulations

  • Now that I think about it, due to the fact that slimes don't swim up, that means you can't make a mobovator, right?

  • wen u were talkin about the blocks that can control water u didnt say pistons?Im Guessin this was b4 the update?? GREAT VID BTW! THANX I LEARND ALOT!! this will help me alot!!!

  • i like this tutorial but i have the version 1.2_1

  • @TheDjtomaster Why don't you update!? Unless ya got it illegally.

  • At the end with the boat stopping, you could use pistons to make an adjustable ladder.

  • @RazorWolff You do understand that this was made in the time of the 1.6_x versions, when pistons where a half-cooked mod, and not a part of the game... right?

  • @DeusExInfernus Yes, of course I do. It was merely a suggestion.

  • Wow, and I thought I knew stuff about water, seems there is a lot more to it. ^^

Also, if you want to "breathe" underwater, you can use a bucket to remove a water block temporarily in front of your face, giving you a split second air pocket for you to catch your breath. Then you can empty your bucket into another water block and repeat this process as many times as you want.

  • around 15:35, are there any other requirements for the soil to stay watered? mine keeps turning dry unless i plant the wheat immediantly and then it has to turn watered, and if i walk over is sometimes it uproots, and turns unwatered again

  • dear etho,

u are the only guys in the whole world that can make a movie about WATER"in an half hour!

    congratulations!

  • Love your little tricks! Just one "1" example. at 20:00

  • Is there a way like the stair transfer mobs a way to tranceport items with water?

  • Pretty epic tutorial and its indeed taught me some tricks about it.

  • do you already have a tutorial for the super fast boat tunnel? if not, could you make one?

  • @xXxCHRISMWAxXxFILMS Look at some older videos! EATS road is what its called, the music is pretty easy to set up with it!

  • incredible tutorial. the ice making the items go quicker made me realize that theres always something new to learn about minecraft.

  • how do you record with such a high FPS?

  • nice guide really , thumbs up for killed piggy at 7:55

  • thankyou very very helpful

  • i need a pee now...

  • You can truly control water when pistons release.

  • That water wall thing is amazing. I never knew it could hold shape after blocks are removed around it.

  • Ice constantly forms in snow biomes with a clear shot to the sky. This could prove useful for item transportation systems. It would be slightly tedious.

  • redstone tutorial? :D

  • like a boss ;)

  • There's water in Minecraft !?!?!? Learn something new everyday....

  • Also you can "switch" dungeon spawners on/off by placing a glass ceiling over it and using water to cover the ceiling. Mobs will spawn while the water is on top of the glass, but will not when it's removed. This, of course, will work when the light source above the glass is sufficient (above level 7 I believe) to deactivate the spawner block.

  • Very informative video on water and its properties. Despite playing MC since Sep10, even a couple of these tidbits were "news" to me, so this seems very exhaustive. ;2)

  • Something I just learned, but noticed you didn't mention... If a source block is above the ground (meaning a stream of water is flowing down) and you place sand/gravel above the source block so it falls through, it does not destroy the source block. However, if you place sand/gravel IN the source block, but it still falls down, the source block will be destroyed.

  • Etho should made a redstone tutorial, thumbs up so that he can see this

  • That was detailed :|

  • that porkchop was killing me

  • i think i just ate some brain cereals

  • nice tutorial. i learned some interesting things, about 2 to be exact. the ice on the bottom of an item transporter thing makes them go faster. do you know about those marble tracks u set up and race marbels? it would be fun to make something like that with water slides with ice on bottom for speed, colored wool and cool drops using ladders and signs

  • very nice etho make a part 2 if their is anymore

  • 24:10 instead of wasting a sign just add another water source block were the fall is

  • You should work on a boats tutorial next =) I'm sure they're very useful (and complex) but just don't get enough credit

  • They should just replace the water page on the minecraft wiki with this video :D

  • Can you do a tutorial on the boats traveling as fast as minecarts? And I thought water elevators were patched...

  • @FearGrump they were some time between 1.6 and 1.6.6. then notch decided they were too slow and increased the speed a little. they arent as fast as before. there is a way to make them as fast with signs and stuff. i believe Rolf David has a tutorial. or he at least mentions it and has a link.

  • Thanks for the tutorial Etho even if most of the stuff was things I already knew some things was quite fun to learn. Like the water search radius.

  • Squid can hold their breath forever... LOL

  • I wish they would add finite water to minecraft because it would make much more sense to me. Then again, that would probably destroy basically all of your cool inventions :(

  • One thing you should have mentioned: Water flowing sidewards will make torches, mushrooms, etc. pop out of the ground, but water flowing downwards will destroy them.

  • 8 people drown x)

  • Very informative. I had seen the TNT in water before, but never knew/understood the consequences of it being there. Thanks Etho. You've made it easy to understand! :)

  • very awesome video thanks much

  • You can actually grow wheat without water or bonemeal. I've seen someone grow wheat in the Nether, where there is no water, and without bonemeal. It just takes a VERY long time.

  • Yeah I just skimmed through before cause I already figured out all the things he went over. He didn't mention that furnaces can be used to update water blocks (for traps) however

  • It might be good to add in a note on how water gets updated, such as by redstone or furnaces (check Kiershar's channel to see what I mean). =)

and maybe touch on memory, locks, etc. using boats.

  • It might be good to add in a note on how water gets updated, such as by redstone or furnaces (check Kiershar's channel to see what I mean). =)

  • I feel sorry for anyone who didn't watch all of this.

  • i do think shrooms need water to grow

  • does not have to be stairs, halfblocks work as well

  • @h0lx 25:30

    He said that?

  • nice! subbed you today :)

  • I forgot to mention, it also doesn't need a downward stream either. Any water movement in that direction can cause entities to get trapped in the stream.

  • @13:10

This is the glitch I've been complaining about. This didn't exist until 1.6 and shouldn't exist imo.

  • @roboticaust i don't like this glitch too... notch created this with his change at water behavior to remove the boot elevator...

    still sad about this

  • @herewego92

Well it fucked my hostile mob sorter big time. A crucial portion of it no longer works because entities can't hop out of the water stream anymore. And working around it is near impossible since that portion of the system is what allows me to keep skeletons from shooting me (meaning idle safe) and allows me to have a fully automatic record system as well. If I work around it, it won't be idle safe anymore >:(

  • Loved this! i knew most of it but that you could move players or mobs up a stream (with stairs of slab) i did not know, thank you! :D

  • The ice!!! Dude thank you!!

  • Etho you should really make a wheat farm!

  • @naskomiro

you get a message saying so

  • u dont need water to grow wheat u can grow it on plain dirt without water or bone meal it just takes twice as long

  • You forgot that you can't place water in the nether

  • 1:20

    Water inside a water... Watception?

  • Xbox Ahoy meets Minecraft

  • Awesome tutorial. I had several "Aha!" moments and learned a lot. Thank you for doing this!

  • i wanna make a massive water-wall now...

  • 26:43, that is fricking amazing, could you make a tutorial on how to make it?

  • You could just get the Realistic Water mod and it sorts all of this crap out.

  • @DivineMastery minecraft water has uses. realistic water is more realistic but less fun imo.

  • 25:20 GENIUS!

  • Very useful. Thanks Etho :-)

  • etho i need a lava tutorial, there is so much stuff i don't know about lava.. thumbs up so he see it

  • @BestWT1 Lava is water that can burn things, will burn items, goes slower, gives you drowning damege as soon as you go in, burns you and is found low in the ground.

  • please make a tutorial about lava.. there is so much information that i don't know about it.. thumbs up so he can see it..

  • @BestWT1 water block + lava block = water becoming stone

water + lava source = lava into obsidian

I think lava travels 3 blocks after its source, but 7 blocks after its source in the nether.

also sets wood near it some ammount of blocks away on fire and damages players and mobs when they touch it.

  • kakashi FTW

  • Thumbs up if you saw the creeper face at 3:18 Top right corner. :D

  • replace that glass wolf something else so the wolfs cant see the sheep on the barn in your lets play minecraft

  • @VpRoGaMeRrRx

I don't think anything but players see through glass. Mobs trying to attack the player can poorly try to follow the player through glass however do not try to attack htrough it.

  • 19:30

If there is an odd number between the streams they are obviously not on equal length. One is 3 blocks one is 2.

  • You can place a torch on a water block to destroy it. Way #4.

  • "squid can hold her breath forever " haahah XD

  • i wonder how he will react if the finite water mod is added to minecraft.

  • @TheSnufking I sure hope it wont be added, it'd break just about all of his creations.

  • @mrBorkD

Same, but i think the finite water mod provides a much more accurate way for water to run. But this is a game, so who the fuck cares :)

  • This is awesome, danke etho!

  • Extremely helpful! You are wonderful Mr Etho keep up the awesome Minecraft work!

  • cool thaanks etho!!

  • Great tutorial man! Very useful information =)

Just a quick amendment to this video though: water will freeze in snowy biomes whether it snows or not - but I'm of the impression that it freezes quicker (or each block has a higher chance of freezing) if it's snowing, though I haven't tested this.

  • what is your skin??

  • @blazerboy7772

Hatake Kakashi, from the Anime series Naruto.

  • @Clike666ness thanks i thought it was
