  • ID say it was a great deal more fun than the sprinter

  • great video mate 5 stars and fav

  • That is a superb piece of machinery in operation - a real joy to see!

  • i was at ranoch moor running the cafe when hogwarts express came in,stayed for 30 mins then took off had a chat to them for a while, later we called the fire brigade to put out the fire down the track, nick

  • Great footage, My Dad fires these engines on this line and often on the Jacobite, was trying to see if I could see him but not on this clip. My Dad has done the last 4 H/Potter films, can you remember when a feild was set a light in Scotland by the Harry Potter train....that was my Dad!!!!

  • Are those tiny lights all they have for head lights? Are they bright? I guess it does not really matter because the engineer is gonna hit whatever is on the track, weather he sees it or not.

  • I think its more traditiion than practicality I think.

  • No, the small lights are set out in a pattern that indicates the type of train, where it was going or where it came from. British railways were mostly fenced and their steam locos never or rarely used headlamps. Loco headlamps do not show the track to the driver so much as warn people nearby that a train is coming.

  • my goodness - replacing the 156's because they broke? thats inspired!

  • Oh My God

Uses Guys Sound Like Youve Never Senn One In Your Lifes I Se About 6 Of them every day from 8.30 to about 12:00 in school my schools rite beside the train track in for william

  • Hold on...

This is engine number 62005.. Which I was on last weekend, and was called "Lord of the Isles" and the jacobite on the side.

This is the "Deerstalker" Im sure its the same train under different names. There having us on people!!!!!!

  • Let me explain.

The engine No 62005 is called Lord of the isles.

The engine is used to pull a train called the Jacobite which regularly runs over this route, However the coaches used for the Jacobite are being used for a special evening train called the deer stalker. Which is why the engine is carrying a headboard. It just shows that the train has a name

  • I'm pleased to tell you that the steam train from Fort William to Mallaig runs every summer!! I think it starts late May, and finishes for the season early September. The prices are a little higher than they used to be, but guaranteed every year, I do the return journey.

  • From New Zealand but was fortunate enough to go on the 'Jacobite' last September while in Scotland visiting one of my daughters, the "Harry Potter' train and the famous viaduct. Surprised how small the UK steam locos were,New Zealand railways only 3'6" gauge but mainline steam locos used in the same period were much larger. Must be the all the mountains and hills in NZ required more power.Really enjoyed the trip to Malliag. We then caught the ferry over to Skye. Enjoyed your video.

  • I grew up with steam trains in the 1950's. Traveled by steam again in India 1980. Reminded me of childhood.

  • It replaced the sprinter service for one weekend only for "the hell of it" bit of fun.

Steam usually runs there in every summer but normally on specials rather than timetabled trains.

  • its steam you moron =water

  • Does it go to Mallaig?

  • Yes. That week it replaced the usual Sprinter service on the Mallaig/Fort William line. Fares were charged at the Sprinter rates - but specials were available for enthusiasts - e.g. first class. There was also an evening ceilidh on this train. A very good one too.

  • That is a ex-LNER K1, Lord of the Isles.

  • Now Im jealous!! i wish They'd Replace My Train with a steam train! Wud be so much more interesting!!

  • My understanding was that it replaced the Sprinter between Fort William and Mallaig for that week only. The fares were the same as the Sprinter fares. But there was an option for first class.

  • does anyone remember a tv programme that was all about steam trains and people who still drive them or are involved with them. it was on weekly for a while and about 12 years ago. In Britain i mean

  • It was "The Train Now Departing..."

  • Brilliant, thanks man

  • at the home of the caledonian sleeper!nice to see somthing different in rural parts of britain!!!

  • Your video is great and I've rated it as awesome. Please check out mine on some 1920's railway centenary tobacco cards and a short clip of the Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch miniature railway.

  • yep u r very right i live verually half a mile from a steam railway(severn valley railway) and it has alot of steam engines
