Does anyone out there believe that a guy that didn't know how to wire a pickup correctly (EVH) knew how to rewind it, viz, "over-wind" it to lets say 12 or 14K?? I think that's mythology to sell pickups of all sorts. The original BW had Gibson PAF which eddie barely knew how to wire, which means it was 7.5-9K? Anyone have any real EVIDENCE to refute that?

@Flatted357 I DEFINETLY think its very possible. I mean we know for sure the man wax potted his pups or he would never be able to run his amp that hard without an immense amount of feedback. He experimented and messed around with stuff all the time. Not saying I know for sure, just that its without a doubt possible in my opinion. As for the myth to sell pups, Im pretty sure that idea was out WAY before he started selling pups, which was only recently.

I personally do not believe he did anything of this sort until AFTER album 1 -- After he had money, yes, I believe he enrolled the help of experts and made pickup mods - I suspect that he recounts the stories inaccurately specifically bc he does not want people to know VH1 had a stock PAF-- thats based on my experience as lawyer and evaluating what people say and don't say -- I could be wrong, but I would like some EVIDENCE

@Flatted357 Before, four years before VH1 to be specific. VH1 and prior to, was the hardest he ever ran his amp I believe, which still means he had to pot his pup to keep it under control. Id be willing to bet he DID have experts help with his pups along with other things, but I think that'd been after VH1 when he had money, like you said. Id dont think he'd try to make a secret out of it when he so willingly said that his plexi was stock,that would have clearly been a better thing to market.

He is slightly a little ambiguous in the Video I watched, but maybe that is what he claims-- I find the sound on VH1 to be smoother and not quite as HOT as subsequent albums, at least to my ears- Does it seem that way to you?

@Flatted357 Yea actually, in the vids talking about his fender frankenstrat, he talks about yanking the pickup out of wax in the nick of time before it melts, this however falls into the advertisement category, not that theres any reason for me not to believe its not true. Hmm maybe, Ive always thought of the first album to be the loudest and most aggresive guitar tone but thats just a matter of opinion I guess, that women and children tone is pretty gnarly though.

The licensed copies are incredibly inferior.

I have heard good things about Ping & Floyd Rose Special trems though... although they both will need a block upgrade. Still the real thing is considerably better made.
