This is still one of my favorite videos because it gets across several key points: that they are immersed in these technologies; that we need to be careful about "our" language; and that short videos can be really useful!
Thanks so much. It was completely spontaneous. I had the flipcam, and I told them we were going to make a movie about the technology and they had no idea what I was talking about, so instead of making the movie about the technology itself, I made it about how it was completely second nature to them, so much so that they couldn't even name it. I use it in workshops at conferences to illustrate why teachers should employ social media for instruction, and why schools need access.
Wonderful!!! This really gets the point across about how immersed they are in these tools. Thank you! Will be using this in workshops for school librarians.
Actually, I doubt most of these kids ever knew what Web 1.0 was all about. They probably don't recall a time when you couldn't interact with a webpage, or contribute user-generated content. The notion of a static webpage that you can't interact with would seem very strange to them i imagine.
Just because they don't know the term Web 2.0 doesn't mean they don't know about them... that's the point really... these kids are so immersed in a Web 2.0 environment they don't even realise that it's an "environment". It's like breathing air, you do it all the time but don't even think about the fact that you live in an environment full of air. It just "is".
