It is simple, back in the day people were expanding west. You need money to do so, he left his family in another country came to the states, grinded the nights at work to gain money to buy a horse and carriage so that he may travel west. Well, sometimes they held this races for land, he did such a thing and they give you a flag in which you would place in the ground and claim the land, he did so.
Dear all those making acusations upon this song and what it is about ... Everybody has a diffrent view about songs and diffrent emotions and feelings go into these views. The only people whom truly know what its is about is the band
@darkshredder95 you still can't compare this band to say...dragonforce who do the exact same song over and over. lol At least with Sonata they find new perspectives on the same topics.
@DarthOblivius Essentially, it's a song that takes place in the colonial era when everybody was coming from Europe to live in the New World. The singer comes to Boston alone to get a job and earn money, which he plans to use to build a new home for his wife and unborn child. Then he sends for his family so they can all live together (AFTER he's finished building the home, because otherwise they could be crushed in an accident). The whole thing about the race is just that land sells quick.
I think this song is about a man who leaves his wife (and by extension his unborn baby) to immigrate to the U.S. ("the sails are lit by the lights of boston" "off the ship") then he stayed in the Eastern U.S. until spring, when he went west to the West, to raise a farm and own land. ("land by the river and new built home") but he felt lonely, and he raised the money to bring his wife there with him.
one of the happiest SA songs I've heard...not that depressing songs are bad, of course.
@SuperWillie900 Hmm that's close although I read somewhere that this song told the story of that young family living in the settlement of a landlord who had them oppressed and they would not survive unless they found their own claimed land. So the man sails off on a journey to find land to claim for his family so they can escape this oppression which would be somewhere like you said. But his intentions were to take the family with him once he "stuck his flag in the ground" and claimed their home
@SuperWillie900 I honestly believe that this a story about, basically what you have said, but, he got to boston, made it over to the Land of Oregon, where they had the Oregon Land rush, where they Raced for their land ownership privileges, and to mark the land, the racers marked their land with sticking flags in the ground

@SuperWillie900 It is about a man that goes to U.S. of A., for some big race. If he wins it he will get some land and enough money to get his wife and child to US too.
@SuperWillie900 Correct. The last part about the "at noon the sound will boom" was about the Oklahoma land race. They were trying to get people to settle west, so they offered up free land as long as you were the first to claim it.
@SuperWillie900 Actually, it's about a poor family who could only afford 1 ticket to the 'New World' and thus are separated until they have enough money. In the meantime they're torn by loneliness.
Well, if that isn't depressing I don't know what is xD
@SuperWillie900 "The song tells a story of a man round in 17th-18th century who left his wife and unborn son to go to the place of opportunities: America. So he went there, found a piece of land and brought his wife and his son there to make a new life and home..... That's what most people did at that time because in America then the only thing you had to do to declare a land to be your own was to place a flag in the ground ;=]"

Fun fact, this is a reworked version of "Blackout", from way back when. So far back, they weren't even Sonata - they were Tricky Beans...

@goji3755 No I got that but almost all lyrics and stuff have a "Prologue" section but it doesn't appear in the song itself.
