The pitcher for my Varsity softball team had that happen to her-but WAY worse. She FLEW backwards-shattered her left cheekbone. If it hit her half an inch higher she probably wouldn't be able to see out of that eye anymore. Seriously, wear face masks and, if your team can afford it, buy an extra to offer to the other team's pitcher. It's horrible.

poor kid. i took one right to the mouth in little league. broke my teeth and the broken pieces were embedded in my lips. all i remember is pitching then waking up in a man's arms and his shirt being covered in blood. awful memory. this is why my daughter wears a mouth piece when playing and and if she is pitching a face mask.

It bothers me when I see this because I feel the pitchers are too close in softball. God forbid but she could have been killed from that blow to the head. There is absolutely no reason why the mound is so close, girls could adapt easily if it was backed up. Understandably it could happen even if the mound was 100 feet back but still myself and a lot of other people would breathe easier if that would change. Nobody needs to have brain damage or die because of a game.

I got hit by a line drive a couple years ago. I was playing on a league I wasn't suppose to really be on I was 13 and the other girls were high school top dogs. That were like 17 and 18. I was dumb and pitched it down the middle and got the ball creamed to my face. I got 70 and more stitches inside and out my lip. My lips were torn apart. I didnt realize what was going on till I saw the blood. All pitchers should wear mask. I was centimeters away from losing life.

I was coaching that game, the hitter is Sarah Little she will be playing DI softball in North Carolina at Elon, The pitcher was actually struck in the shoulder and recovered to continue in the game. The OC Hawks Gold team stood up and gave the pitcher a standing ovation when she came up to bat in the next inning.
