@vpo2g2 I have a look on the Tube for Richard Bonelli singing The Holy City adn there isnt anyhitng. Maybe some wher else. Have a listen to 1`8 yeard old Australian Mark Vincent singing The Holy City at the Carols by Candelight on the 17th December last yhear. This kid has a brilliant future ahead of him. Ther is one version wqhich is absolutely lus due to technical problems but the real one is a gem. Gives on goose bumps to listen to him performing. A credit to Australia
A magnificent rendering of this great and touching sacred song, now no longer heard on the air-waves swamped by obscene commercial rubbish. This record is in good condition, and I am fortunate to possess the same record in my collection. Interestingly it once belonged to a radio station.
Wow. This was one of my Dad's faves. My Dad had an operatic voice and he sang this hymn with so much feeling, that even I, his Son brought tears to my eyes. May Our Father Bless us. (Please). How wonderful to visit the New Jerusalem. Wish I was there. God Bless you all my Friends.
Though I am not a religious person, this version of this wonderful old hymn, by Crooks, is simply thrilling. Wonderful. Crooks is -as i have said elsewhere- in my opinion the finest American tenor of the last century. And a fine gentleman as well. Increasingly rare today among what passes for talent currently.
Lets hope there is a new Jerusalem for all of us. we're not doing so well with the old one.
Heard this song first time in the late fifties, listened to a dozen or so on you tube tonight but in my humble opinion this is the best! Beautiful voice.
I heard this song in the fifthys as a boy of 10 jo. in the house of mij little friend. And it never disappeared from mij head. At that time from the lyrics I only understand the word "Jerusalem". But the great voice of this so symphatic american I stil hear in my head. In the meantime I have all his live-operas and hundreds of songs. A lovely singer, with a happy voice.
It looks like this version is one of the oldest & sweetest by Richar Crooks. Thank you for posting it. With all the trouble in Israel, Jerusalem, It will be protected in spite of evil. When Jesus ( Yashua in Hebrew), comes back, He will split the mount of Olives & an earthquake will follow. I look forward to the New Jerusalm as spoken of in Revelation 21, what a beautiful city descibed with it's dimensions &foundatins of gemstones.
Probably the finest recording of this great work by Stephen Adams. This represents the pinnacle of song writing and in my view goes further than Roger Quilter's often more highly rated pieces. - Magnificent singing from Crooks, one of the 20th century's greatest tenors.
As a kid, I had an old 78 record of Richard Crooks singing " Kilarney" and "Goodbye" and always thought this must be the epitome of the human voice. Just wonderful!
Lovely to hear this so well sung. I used to sing this as a student and am now inspired to record it for You Tube. Bravo Richard Crooks - perhaps I could do it half as well.
This is my favorite song so beautiful is it it gives me goose bumps Praise the Lord Peace to all Mankind and the children of the world , never should they suffer never ever !

Yes, Crooks was a superb tenor. No one exists on the operatic stage today, indeed for a very long while,
that can match the quality of his singing. His diction was flawless due to perfect placement of the voice. A lost art.

Does anyone know when this song was recorded? one of my favorite songs and singers
jbeer82 2 years ago
this version of the song was previously posted on You Tube (then taken off) and was listed as recored in1935
sailingstu 2 years ago
You are right, it was in bmcneese45's channel, that channel was suppressed by the "greed" of the musical industry,
Since I am Bill's wife, I reposted some of the songs here.

Richard Crooks is superior to all the tenors and their voice teachers today
