  • Some good ol' Pachelbel here

  • this would definitely make a good ring tone !

  • i learned how to play this :D

  • @DietGrape what song is it from?

  • @Shiiheadbrett not a song. it was just for this dvd but the part from 0:24 to the end is based off canon rock. the first bit was just paul's licks

  • @DietGrape has nothing to do with you, but just to say it out loud, Canon Rock SUCKS, srsly.

  • @brando18guitarplyr dude this is way before canon rock was concieved.

  • @DillonBerkley ikr. it´s just a scale, so it isn´t based on a existing song. that´s why the dietgrape dude is wrong.

  • @brando18guitarplyr actually the part after 0:24 is based of of pachabels canon in d. dietgrape was half right. canon in d is way older than pg.

  • @DillonBerkley i know, but it's still just a scale.

  • @brando18guitarplyr well if you put it that way you could say anything just a scale. Its actually an arpeggiated version of the chords in the song.

  • @DillonBerkley true, but i just hate canon rock.

  • @brando18guitarplyr fair enough. im not a big fan of it either.

  • @DillonBerkley finally , most people i speak to love canon rock. (wankers) >.>"

  • @brando18guitarplyr i would like but i see people who play canon rock like people who wear tap out shirts. they think they're badass because they've labled themselves.

  • @DillonBerkley pachabels version shouldn't have been f*cked up by that jerryc dude.

  • @Shiiheadbrett He uses this sequence in a few of his songs, but not necessarily in this key. Scarified is one of them I think

  • thats my fav paul lick.

  • Oh', I forgot to mention that Paul seemed like a really good guy and I am glad that he has become more successful as a result of his schooling, but he probably didn't need it. It just goes to show that you can never learn everything by yourself. GIT was a very influential on me because learned nobody owns music. Paul has something I just wish I had- technique. I have so much style, but technique has always been a challenge. I imagine Paul feels he lacks something too. Keep playing and wing it!!!

  • @paulj0557 I dont believe you have half the musicality or style that paul posseses. if im wrong then post a video of you improvising.

  • I went to GIT in 1984 when he was there and I sat in a video practice booth while he was over in the next one shredding away. I was watching a video about studio musicianship and how one needed to be versatile in their ability to adapt to styles of the producer. Inside I just laughed, I knew that because Paul could play scales like that he'd probably never adapt to anything but blazing exercises. Sure I was intimidated like you, but remember people care more about music than acrobatics.

  • @paulj0557 Someone's a little bitter I see.

  • fuck that is NOT easy lol

  • I want this lick!

  • i know playing guitar is not all about speed . but if paul gilbert plays the guitar.. alright then.. its all about speed and some fucking enormous precision on both hands. bow*

  • the 5 people who disliked this video clearly have no desire for having your face melted.

  • @jeeshwa123 or just don't like it?

  • beautiful

  • what song is this from?

  • tabs.....

  • sounds almost like Jason Becker

  • Best guitarist in the fucking planet hands down mother fuckers! The guy can even sing fly me to the moon while improv... thats beastly!

  • i see this guy really likes ibenez's

  • @kurtcobain66 As soon as company starts paying you bunch a money for playing their guitar trust me u gonna like it too. . . By the way this string skipping is probably one of the hardest things to do on guitar and especially in this speed.

  • @MrAppolo777 Practice it for a few months, you'll be able to play it standing on your head.

  • My fav vid.

  • ...patient...

  • so.......CLEAN O.o

  • that's pretty hard toplay but it suonds awesome.

  • Anybody who didn't know he doesn't sweep pick would not be able to tell the difference from the playing here.

  • well durring his racer x period he did sweep... a lot.

  • i love iT!

  • he is god!

  • Haha the E-major part sounds alot like pachbels canon. Paul is the king!

  • @shooooota because that's the same chord progression.

  • That sounds like some old school nintedo game music. Awsome.

  • @Rayrockny reminds me of sonic

  • r there any tabs for this?? this is amazing

  • he likes using that arpeggio a lot

  • I'm surprised paul hasn't incorporated 0:00-0:25 into an actual song yet, he plays it in almost every live solo.

  • The first little bit of it is in the solo for "How Can You Do What You Do" from the first Mr. Big album

  • Thank god, I was really hoping that was a song.

  • he has

  • Get rid of that time-code counter!!!!

  • I don't understand...what is sequenced string skipping?

  • String skipping is using a certian scale on the guitar but instead of going on that scale from the string you start your tonic note and then proceding up to the higher string he goes up or down skipping that one string and playing relative notes up or down half steps on those peticular stringshe moverd to geting a more interesting sound. I believe thats what it is but don't trust me I may be wrong. hahahaha

  • Sequence simply refers to the order of the notes he's playing. Here he's playing mainly arpeggios, so the sequence refers to the order of the notes of any particular chord. The idea behind his string skipping is that it makes it easier to change the order you play the notes as opposed to sweep picking the same chord. This is because sweep picking generally has a one note per string style and relies on a picking technique that makes anything but top to bottom and bottom to top sequences hard.

  • If one can play this, can you consider them good?

  • not exactly but if you tried to do that you will know it is really difficult!

  • But if you can play something difficult, then that means you're good. No? Not everyone can play this.

  • Well yes but you need composition skills to

  • True. So if you know how to play this AND make music, then you're good. :P

Well I know how to read and write music, but nothing like this! This is difficult! :P But I can surely play this...hah

  • adventchildren73 just because you can play this it doesnt mean you are good, this isnt the hardest thing to play... its arpegios over and over again, to be good you have to be able to improvise, and make up your own solos on the spot... aswell as being fast

  • spoken like a badass

  • play flamenco guitar pieces then i will say you are good

  • True dat...

  • Look man, if you think you're good, if others KNOW you're good, that's good. But don't be an Yngwie about it.

  • Learned it. Just search sequenced string skipping.

  • RTARDS? just search the title on google with guitar pro tab at end? ugh learn to search for tabs

  • Sounds like Mozart

  • good

  • THATS CRAZY!!!!

  • does anybody know what song this is from?? or what song this is?? or if there's a tab for it?????????

  • the last part is an arpeggionated version of the chord progression of Canon in D by pachelbel

  • it wasn't an arpeggio

  • well its a neo classical type of thing in the

beginning and richard below here is right about the last part being the canon in d chord progression

  • go on google, for sure theres tabs, and i doubt its from a song but just a pattern for this dvd.

  • lol probs gonna get spammed fer this but i juzz made a tutorial on how to play, tab include , if yer interesteddd

  • why would you get spammed?

  • a lot of shredders use the neck because it cleans up mess. I use bridge most of the time unless I want to produce a tone or sound done better with the neck. Either way there's nothing wrong with prefering to do something your own way.

  • i learnd it a few days ago...pretty hard on the fingers and focus.

oh yeah and he does it sooooo cleanly!!

  • My bro said "whats those numbers at the bottom mean" I said thats how many notes per second he's playing ;)

  • lol

  • He didn't know it was the recording time?

  • no. duh. like he said, it's notes per second :P

  • Apparently not

  • is he using the neck or bridge pick up? Hey can you guys tell me if its easier to use the neck or bridge in terms of string skipping

  • I like to use the neck pickup. But I guess it's about tone more than ease of playing.

  • xDD..

pick ups doesn'r control you fingers xD

  • dude im not saying pick ups control your fingers im just saying that neck pick ups are much smoother in feeling compared to the neck pickups.

  • so, the correct question is "it sounds better with neck pickup?" :P

  • sounds like the neck....but I usually use bridge, myself. whichever works out better for you.

  • umm..every fast shredder i know uses the neck because the sound is tighter, you get less feedback, and you really hear the notes better

  • in other words, you can play much sloppier

  • No. It's easier to hear the notes and it's warmer and smoother sounding.

  • yeah and it gives the tone a thicker and smoother sound

  • flawless

  • Skips*

  • KingV they're not sweeps they're string skops

  • awesome!

  • challenge yoselves.

  • LOL!!!!!!!! kingvkiller thats the funniest thing ive seen on youtube

  • man where is guitar pro tab for this lick this is um...........i can't.........awesome

  • its called scarified you should see the solo in there somewere

  • that is nowhere in the song scarified. there is a section that is sorta similar but its not the same

  • give me gtp for this lick

  • Damn... this guy sounds amazing even when he's just warming up WTF!!!

I could probably sit there and listen to him warm up all day and still be amazed! shit lol!

  • Probably the most orgasmic exercise I've heard.

  • pg!

  • Man you just know he made this up on the spot, learned it in 2 seconds and then shot this vid.

    Paul just pwns shit

  • Actually I think he sounds a bit sloppy in this vid, probably because of the tone or maybe because he was pretty young in this one. He sounds better now never the less.

  • Never the less...

Paul still fucking owned in this video :)

But yeah i can see what you mean. I still think it sounded completely badass.

  • Part of it was canon ;)

  • So that's how he warms up

  • dude paul gilbert is badass

  • what song is this from?

  • It's just an exercise.

  • MY GOD !!!!!!!!

  • lmao i love how he casually starts talking when he's done playing..that was so insane

  • sounds like canon from 0:25 to 0:30

  • Awesome! PG is god.

  • the last part of the progresion remerber me the end of the beginig of jason becker :D

  • What is this song called?

    please tell me anyone

    bye

    PoWeR AxxxeL

  • Sorry, I meant Mr Big.

  • Isn't this bit a part of the Racer X live-solo that's on youtube somewhere?

  • So who is really better? Paul or Marty???!?!?!!! it drives me insane!!!!

  • Then let me answer that for you!

    Paul.

If you see Marty vs Paul battles you notice that Paul's improv is a lot more... fluid. It sounds more natural and finished, even though he just made it up.

  • thats everyones opinions so you choose how do you like better most people well choose ppal martys amazing to i mean when your that good its like comparing apples and oranges...(sorry for lame expression)-_-

  • Well i just view it as Marty is a better Metal guitarist, he's got kind of a different style that is similar but heavier....if you prefer it smooth you like Paul most likely but if you prefer a more scratchy "I don't give a crap cuz I'm sweet" tone that I prefer with more distortion than most likely your a Friedman kinda guy. So I prefer Marty but I love Paul. And a better comparison is it's like comparing Ibanez guitars to Jackson guitars..I like that better(But in reality they both use Ibanez)

  • I'd like to take a stab at that question. Only my opinion of course, I think Marty would be "better" only because he's more diverse. Paul has a great pop sense and style but Marty can do everything, playing from Megadeth style to more electronic dance oriented style. I'm not Paul can't do this, I just haven't seen him do this, he usually sticks to one things and does that very well

  • Well I am glad you agree with me. And Marty is very diverse, I wish he would have stayed with MEGADETH because they were my favorite band with Marty. But he had his reasons. But since you answered that question with logic. Would you like to take a stab at this one? Who is better; Soul Hudson(I think that is "Slash's" name.) or Randy (Obvious which Randy) Give reasons and if possible any examples. Feel free to answer this question anyone. Not just Jamie but who ever wants to. I pick Randy!!!!!!!!

  • Techinaly randy is a better guitarist than slash, but they're bother very good. I like slash alot because he has alot of emotion in his playing and has a more bluesy feel to his playing, while randy rhoads had a very techinal and almost "shredder" feel to his solos. Really they have completely different styles of playing, so I can't decide.

  • what do you mean almost shredder he was a shred god.

  • Xmalibur a shred god i don't tjink is the term for randy. In terms of sheer skill, Michael Angelo is a shred god, not randy rhoads lol

  • I disagree MAB may shred better but randy played more tastefully in my opinion

  • Yeah sure i'll go with that, MAB in terms of technique i feel couldnt get alot better, but he needs a few lessons from the likes of Vai, Satch and Randy :) for feel defo. I get bored with his playing as it does seem to be a lot of notes in a second.

Don't get me wrong though, I love my shred, and get annoyed when people say playing fast is jsut for the sake of it. Playing fast has a time and place, and it's all about note choice and how the notes go against the chords in the background.

  • Feel? Oh dear.

  • what are you actually relating to orbit?

  • I'm relating to, that this "feel" thing you talk about, is utter bullocks :D

  • In what sense? How would explain 'feel' on a guitar?

  • You're the one talking about it, explain it to me, so I can see your Point of View :)

  • Yes i was, i was just wondering why it was utter bollocks. Are you a guitar player? My idea of a guitarist who has feel is one who can play melodically, knows his way round the neck and therefore choose any number of notes to express him/herself. Feel is knowing what sounds good over what, knowing when to hold back, and when to rip it up. Feel is having unique phrasing, therefore expressing uniqueness through the instrument from ones self.

  • Yes, I am a Guitarist, so you're talking about......kind of intuitive note choice?

    Just use Music Theory :D

  • why would you ask a question like that? of course it's not.. i've seen him live twice, and met him.. it's not all about the videos

  • Michael angelo Batio is a technique god, but in reality hes a wanker and a bit of a tool. his playing bores the living crap out of me, even if randy was a muhc more tasteful and overall better guitarist

  • Is this really an arguement? MAB may be good, but I think he's an embarassment. First he takes Vai's two guitar neck technique then just gets more...then he has that dumb arm flip manuever. 90% of what the guy does is for show, but don't get me wrong, he's good. Randy is in a whole different catigory though. Randy is better than MAB, any day.

  • isnt that basically what i said?

  • No clue, I didn't read what you wrote.

  • MAB is a circus act, not a musician

    RIP randy

  • Lol, opinions are opinions. I wasnt particularly saying i liked his music, just that he was the ultimate shredder and had almost flawless technique. Theres a difference between a shred 'god' and a guitar 'god' i believe

  • Randy WAS a better guitarist than Slash.

Currently Randy can't play guitar very well.

  • Marty is just a musical Master mind

ive jammed with him at Music store in cal

and the guy is so open minded to alot of stuff

    hes very well rounded musician

his advice is gold also his Melodic Sensibility is amazing just jamming and talking with his was great though it was kinda of hard to understand him at times hes starting to for get is native language

    ...im not joking

  • haha...Too much time in Japan?

  • theres no such thing as better players really

just as there are no such thing as Wrong Notes

  • This reminds me of street fighter, mainly the beginning.

  • jason becker rules

  • This so reminds me of Jason Becker, it's crazy.

  • They all came from the House of Shrapnel so really no surprise there

But I like Becker for some of the weird notes he'd throw in there along with Friedman. Kinda eastern arabian feel to it.

  • Damn, that's melodic.

  • i know the tabs of this but i dont know the picking!
