Stupid noobs... it's the hard drive in motion remember it is 120gb storage.. lol I can't believe you sent your ipod back due to your stupidness LOOOL!
Mine makes this noise (the little whir-down one with click at start), but not continuously. It only does it after it loads a song or something, like the hard drive is dismounting. I think it might be normal.
mine does the same, one day i plug it into itues and it doesnt pick it up, all my music etc is gone and when it restarts it takes about 15 to restart and in the meantime it makes these clicking sounds. does anybody know what is happening?
don't shake it!!! this moves the heads and platters, causing the hard drive to fail. shaking it will destroy it. I tried it, and my hard drive nearly failed, i got a screen with a big X in a red circle telling me the apple support website.
Listen, I bought my 120gb recently for my birthday, and it makes THE EXACT same noise when i browse through my pics.
I've been looking online, and supposedly it's normal - and if you take to the store they'll just either give you a refurbished one, or will tell you that it's normal.
sucks, i know.
but w/e.
I'm still in love with it. Just hate the stupid sound it makes.
I called apple about mines and they told me to go ahead and send it in. That they'll repair it or they will send me another one.
A few days after I sent it, they sent me an email saying that they failed to reproduce the sounds i told them about AND THAT THEY'RE SENDING ITBACK TO ME!!!
Oh, well. I guess its normal with classics. People say theirs' clicks and they just ignore it, so i guess that's what i'm going to do.
ugh, i just got itback today and uploaded all my music, etc on it, and its doing the EXACT same thing!!!! well, if apple says that that's normal, then i guess its something i have to live with :(
not my cup of tea exactly, but what can i do?
they'll just ignore my complaints, or send me a refurbished one which will most likely do the EXACT same thing!!!
it's like a definite clicking sound when im searching through things and playing them.. whatever..
My ipod classic started to makes this weird nosie when i slide through the library or select a song to play. But everything else is fine, except this annoying sound. I have had it for almost a year now and it started to make this weird sound only recently. Should i take it to the store or if it`s only making the sound, then that`s normal? Or is this the first sign of the ipod to break or something :/?
those are simply the magnets moving around. mine makes them too and it is brand new. that is simply a trade off you must have when working with non-ssd hardrives...although i would no suggest you shake while it is reading or writing you could lose your data...hope i helped...it is normal.
oo yea see im new to the ipod family i bought my mom a nano for Christmas and then i bought me a touch.
I really love the classic but the touch has the awesome software.
I think ill just stick with the classic because in a 3 weeks my cell phone contract with Verizon expires and im switching to ATT and i could just get the iphone 16GB.

HD clicks arent anything to mess with once mines starts clickin itll be at apple
sterlingnobles 3 years ago
lol, and then the cycle just continues!!
the clicking is nothing to worry about, i'm starting to understand..
it's when it gets really loud or you can start feeling it spin is when there is something to worry about.
MrsTokyo 3 years ago
i can feel mine start up and stop but thats it. im expecting it to do that sense i run track and run alot with it

i have 2 classics and the older one dosent make this noise.
THe ipod randomly resets it self and has deleted all my data twice since iv had it(iv had it for a week now)
sterlingnobles 3 years ago
yeah i would probably get rid of it then...i went from an ipod video to a touch and have never regretted it...so i would suggest getting a touch
bp240 3 years ago
i had the touch and returned it for the classic but i guess ill get the touch again.
The classic has an unlimited amount of space and i love that pluse its like sorta half the price.
Ipod touch 32GB $400
Ipod classic 120GB $250.
IDK ill get another Classic and if it dose the same thing then ill get the touch.
i think the HD messed up cuz of me running with it.
sterlingnobles 3 years ago
yeah the touch was expensive, i got the 32gb because my ipod video was a 30gb
