This game took my a whole month or even 2 to beat, not 8 and a half hours... Thats inhuman you heartless machine.. although im an emotionless ice cold deep hearted person as well.. I sold my soul to Banjo Kazooie, not this game unfortunately.. Since it is one of the best games of all time next to Zelda Ocarina of time and you are one of the first to raise the bar and touch distant lands with this speed run. Mad props and respect goes to you for this one

@jfachris definitely possible to not grind at all for pretty much all of the games, strategy and a bit of luck is key.

You could kill yourself resulting in the battles end as well.

You would save few rounds and if you are allowed to use savestates, try to steal Mage Masher on the first try. It's possible.

Vivi isn't from Kingdom Hearts. He is from Final Fantasy IX and they decided to put him into Kingdom Hearts 2. KH2 is not his origin. FFIX was made before KH2 and is ten times better in my opinion,

@scissors1989 Yea it was the last of the classic games created, with outstanding graphics for the time let me just say... simply mind blowing, not to mention the gameplay is out of this world,I mean theres just something about gaining abilities from your items in this game since that feature isn't in any other game that really just set it off. This game in my opinion is the best game ever made, especially in the year 2000, the only other game made that year that comes close is Zelda Majoras Mask

@scissors1989 Next generation games are over rated. It's rehash after rehash, and then all the other companies are just trying to make their games appeal to the Call of Duty fans, so we will never get games like this again.

I recorded this with a VCR onto VHS tapes. Then I mailed the tapes to someone at SDA, and they transferred it onto the computer and encoded it.

You don't actually have to beat the entire game; you just have to get to and defeat Lich in less than 12 hours.

9 Is one of my favorite games... I especially like the characters, the cartoony style animation, and Nobuo's music. While they say he copied a lot from older final fantasies, I always think that re orchestrations of music make them that much more accessible.

Are you talking about the Hades shop in Memoria? There's no time limit for getting that; all you have to do is defeat Hades at any time. The only time limit is for the Excalibur II, where you have to get to and defeat Lich in under 12 hours.

Wow, Been a while since I played so I was hazy on the details. That's what I meant though was the Excalibur II. I alwasy thought it was in the secret shop... Still, I doubt an extra 3 hours would help me :) I'm not that far into the videos yet but do you end up getting the Exca II or is it too much out of the way?

awesome run, i am the only one i personally know who beat this game. they all thought it sucked. but i loved it. in the end i used auto regen and auto haste, nothing could hurt me enough to kill me. i should try this game again more like this. just gotta finish BOF III first.

kinda similar to me but mine would stop at the end of the 1st cd :(. after many restarts and wiping off the cd, i could eventually get it to go through. but that took forever.

at least i was able to beat the game before it started acting up

In this segment, there weren't any places where you could get into random encounters. In other segments, I just redid them over and over until I got through with no encounters.

Female or not. Under 9 hours for this game is extremely fast. Only down side of speed runs is the lack of character strength end game. But that is what makes it so fun to watch and play.

You can skip FMVs if you want. I didn't because I submitted this run to Speed Demos Archive, and they don't allow any hardware modification (e.g. opening the disc tray while playing).

Yes to both questions, although someone could use the PAL version as long as you figure in the 5/6 speed that it runs on.

You should check out my Exc. II Perfect Game vids sometime... we figured out quicker ways to do the first few battles. Also, you skip text a lot faster than I do, is that b/c you use both square and X? I only recently realized how much faster that is. Anyway 8:36 is an incredible time, esp. without FMV skipping, but I don't want to watch the entire thing until my vids are done... afraid I'll accidentally "borrow" your techniques if I do.

I definitely don't claim that this run is perfect! I'll check out your videos. To skip text, I used both of my thumbs and alternated between pushing square and X; I found that it's a lot faster than just pushing X.

Thanks :) No console speedrun is ever going to be "perfect" but from what I hear you make an amazing effort regardless. My run is FAR from perfect, it's not a pure speed run so there are many large errors which you'll probably laugh at, but I still hope you find them entertaining. And I'll be using the dual-thumb method from Disc 3 onward ;)

My friend's uncle let me borrow this game when I was 10 (I broke the case so I had to use some of my cases to replace the broken ones :P). I personally didn't like this installment because it was too cartoonish. FFVIII was my favorite one. I did enjoy getting my gold Chocobo and the minigame they made for this installment. Thanks for not skipping FMVs :-) They are nice to watch. I'll be giving your videos for this speed run 5/5 stars. Good job :-)

I didn't skip FMVs, if that's what you mean. I skipped through the dialogue in cutscenes as quickly as possible.
