  • no shields?

  • A fan favorite! Looks across and absolutely no one is in the crowd

  • worst commentary ever

  • They're on the wrong side. Isn't that why its driving on the left in the UK?

  • no offense to anyone with this comment, but real lances were way bigger in thickness than those ones. Cool though that they're trying to recreate this spectacular event.

  • @StudlyFudd13 yeah thats a fact, although the type of the wood and the method of creation may drastically define how tough the lance will be.

  • LOOK AT THOSE STANDS LADIES AND GENTLEMEN!

  • I'm impressed that PB remounted. That fall alone can cripple. Strong finish

  • I don't think the stadium had to be that big for 10 people

  • "smashing!" is there no better adjective to describe this event?

  • If this sport gets popular, I wonder how long before they start wearing corporate sponsors like Nascar does.

  • why is no one here?

  • All the naysayers SHOULD try this at home, just so you can feel what riding a horse at 30 MPH is like while wearing 80 pounds of metal, and not being able to see where you're going while aiming for a guy's shoulder with a long, inch-thick pole. Then, in the ambulance, you can dribble about what ate your brain to try something so stupid. This is a sport only champions dare and try to survive. But please do, and put the video on YouTube. We all need the laugh.

  • @acolvin2010 Exactly why no one should do this.

  • how would kids try this at home lol???

  • @jmlinn11 i live next to a place full of horses kids ride them all the time they get freedom over doing just about whatever they want lol whats to stop them from getting some sticks? ;D

  • Duct tape rules.

  • What's with the fag music?

  • That stadium is PACKED!

  • @xxaimpiratexx lol tons of people

  • they have like 2 people in the audience lol

  • Why don't they use shields?

  • I'm going to start a bucket list just so I can put Jousting at the top of the list.

  • why isn't this an olympic sport?

  • @Kamyontani Cause it's retarded. (Why am i watching this? Never seen it before ^^

  • @FpSGamesFtW As if throwing a fucking ball (Hammer throw) down a field isn't? Or a long fucking jump? And please, lets not forget curling. Hell, a majority of the Olympic "sports" are fucking retarded. This would at least be interesting.

  • please don't try this at home! yea we all just have a few armor suits and horses just lying around lol

  • Why isnt this on TV?

I would love to try it.

  • @Domo230 Youtube search "Full Metal Jousting".

  • Huge crowd! Not cause no one gives a flying fuck

  • Look at that packed arena! Oh wait...

  • In the old days you could tell a knight because of his broken nose.

  • @TheLOLReally I have a broken penis, what does that say?

  • omg wat losers im sorry

  • "takes a soil sample". LOL

  • 2:36 'I think it's pretty even'.... yes... all two people in the audience clapped for both..

  • Duct-tape the main commodity of Knights back then lol

  • SIR UUUUUULLLLLRIIIIIIICH VAAAAAANLIIIIIIIIIICHTEENSTEIIIIIIIN

  • "don't try this at home kids!", dangit now I can't buy a horse for me and a friend and stab each other with sticks at 40 mph. D= nooo!!!

  • Remember SlamBall? Yeah...

  • fun to watch but im not gonna lie the people doing it are straight retards....

  • this was recorded with a toothpick

  • They are jousting with toothpicks.

  • What the old saying? "A Fool and his Life are soon parted"

    Silly foolishness pure and simple

  • @ReiMonCoH Oh come on, this is an ancient sport and celebration of martial skill and horsemanship. There are centuries of tradition and culture behind jousting so it's certainly not "silly foolishness, pure and simple." BTW, was that said with a monocle and a top hat?

  • People need to watch a bit of "A knights tale" to understand jousting. I think it's a great sport! :)

  • This blows sliced bread out of the water!

  • @CharNiteX why dont you?

  • Comment removed

  • @CharNiteX Like in a knight's tale?

  • @ultimateiversonfan10 Knights Tale is a MOVIE, how many real life events are the same as a MOVIE...

  • So fucking cool!

  • @CharNiteX They are real jousting lances.

  • I'm actually perfectly okay with -mounted bullfighting- and I think that the full contact version of jousting is too dangerous. Pretty much -all- of the guys that take part (and you do need to be a big, powerful dude to do this at all), are really, really beat up. Not sure if there have been significant numbers of serious horse injuries - seems like a near certainty.

  • .... really, the background music... so distracting. but otherwise, cool.

  • Thios gives me a boner.

  • Why is jousting NOT an Olympic sport?

  • lol 0:40 ?? gay or not

  • high speed camera or no slow mo AT ALL

  • "Don't try this at home" ?! Really?

  • @reddupo That's like saying, I don't understand the skill in shooting a basketball... when you're riding a horse, and another guy is trying to hit you too, its hard to brace and put a full force behind the tip of a lance.

  • I've never gotten how jousting works. What decides who wins? Two guys are traveling in straight lines towards each other, so there is no dodging. Both of their pole things are the same length, so they hit each other at the same time. It doesn't seem like there is too much you can do to stay on the horse other than squeeze your legs together.

    Where is the skill?

  • @reddupo: The idea is to break the head of your lance or unhorse your opponent. The winner is decided by adding up points. The skill is in the thrust and the aim.

  • Do people die from this?

  • @lolliholic256 They used to, sometimes :)

  • @lolliholic256: It isn't unheard of.

  • TREMENDOUS POWER

  • I'm surprised the horses aren't wearing any face or eye protection.

  • Very cool. This sort of thing is ideal for the Olympics - can't understand why the crowd is so small!

  • Just a note. the guys could at least update their armor. we do have kevlar nowadays. it would be alot safer and you would be able to manouvre alot better too.

  • @xgunwingx Would spoil the spectacle of the thing just a tad, no? I'm sure they have some more modern protection on under their armour.

  • @xgunwingx Kevlar won't do much against a lance.

  • Why play toilet music during this?

  • This is awesome! I didn't know that people actually did this. It takes some serious balls to joust!

  • No shields?

  • @fartsam08 Jousting has changed along the medieval period. In early feudal times they used shields especially around 1150-1200. But these armour here show that it's a late medieval jousting tournment (around 1350- 1500) I also saw a barbute in Maximilian style in this video, it's prerenaissance already if you ask me.

Shields became obsolete around 1400 when armour became so performant, that it offered men another hand to wield longer & heavier weapons. Not only in tournaments but also warfare.

  • Nickelback sucks.

  • @Scorponok2009 True, but half the people in Nickleback look about old enough to remember this kind of sport

  • i wish i could joust but first i have to learn how to get on a horse

  • this is seriously an amazing sport, I hope this catches on big time. jousting has for too long remained in the annals of medieval history.

  • i saw this on sports nation.. i had no idea people JOUSTED for reals. I am an instant fan.

  • Cool video......excpet the constant butt rock!

  • out of curiosity do you use any particular sort of horse?

  • Great video! I am delighted to find about this event

How wonderful to see that great western tradition from the Middle Ages remains alive. It's the collective heritage of the Western World and should be cherished by all of us! Thanks for uploading this video! *****5

  • This is such a cool sport, I would love to see this become big.

  • this is soooooooo cool!!! had no idea people still did this! I was coming up with new games to keep my baby stallion interested in school work and thought of justing! we've been hitting teacher's heads painted in foam blocks stuck to a bending pole! LOL! I came online to see if there were any cheap lances sold for costumes and found this! THUMBS UP for everyone that keeps this alive! and thanks to those who filmed and shared it too!

  • I'd watch this,the jousters have guts.

  • I could not imagine how scary that would be.

    But it's still totally awesome.

  • I might be wrong, but I replayed 0:50-0:52 about 30 times and each time I watch it, I become more convinced that the knight that got hit fell off on purpose. There are some aspects to this sport that are real, like the lances and armor, etc. but I think there is a bit of choreography involved in this. After the hit, the knight could have easily rebounded, but he dropped his lanced, and continued leaning back on his own. Agree or disagree with me but this seems choreographed, but still very cool.

  • @jasperkang well what you have to remember is that they are taking quite a bit of force. The momentum of the horse and knigth with armour is all being transfured into him while he is moving with reletively the same momentum but in the opposite direction. Being it with that much force would leave anyone dazed so there would be a delay in his recovery time

  • @jasperkang sorry dude, you ARE wrong :) you see an appr. 3 mm thick armour HAS weight. Consider that without amour he could rebound, but that 35-45 pounds makes it much more harder :)

  • @jasperkang He'd been struck. He's suppose to lean back. (Or may have been dazed) Part of the training. The dismounting of the other guy is the BIG point gainer, but a strike is good. One strike (or attempt,) per pass. The new series on the History Chanel, Full Metal Jousting, explains rules, etc.

  • This is sho kewwl, It'd be awesome if they put foot soldiers in armor with fake swords to get owned by knights lol

  • aren't you guys supposed to be at the round table?

  • whats the song in the background while theyre jousting

  • sweet

  • This is the best representation of jousting I have seen so far. I am reading Le Morte De Arthur and this sequence most resembles the descriptions.

  • @Kalinack

Another book that you should read is Tyrant Lo Blanc.

It is also the first written mention of the Order of the Garter.

I've read the book three times now!

  • THIS IS MY DREAAAAAAM!!! I DIDN'T KNOW THE NAME OF THIS SPORT AT THE FIRST TIME... AND THEN I FOUND THIS VIDEO! THANKS A LOOOOT! ANYWAY SOON, WHEN IM OLD, AND RICH, IM GONNA PLAY IT WITH MY HUSBAND! AHAHAHAHAHAHAH IM CRAZY!

  • poke poke :D

  • This is fucking awsome never knew there was a tournement :)

  • real cool we need some new sports

  • the knights jousting are honourable chilvarous warriors they don't need asshole commenters.

    p.s. whats with the tape!?

  • Wish we had full contact joisting here.

  • This should be so much bigger than it is. It's a shame it's so unknown. i'd never have expected it to take off in America though, since of all places, there wasn't an America when people were doing this back in the day.

  • knights and jousting really should be left to where it began and not in an indoor arena, where is the castle?? where are the rolling hills and dales? where is the authenticity!? Maybe we should do our own version of American football and mess with that!!

  • @DeeJayCarl1968 The authenticity is in man and horse going up against man and horse in a test of skill, strength, resiliance and big hairy balls. You'd certainly need big balls to get in the saddle and ride a horse at the gallop at another guy holding a lance, blunted or not. That stuff's gotta hurt.

  • Beats the crap out of watching golf.

  • Awful commentary

  • Ok, this is awesome. I personally find getting on a horse a matter that takes some courage. Last time I tried it the horse pretty much did what it wanted and I was happy that he mainly wanted to walk around.

  • fuck that shit it is stuped i thort it would be really cool but its just dum

  • love it

  • I love how full the stands are.

  • its empty LOL

  • tough crowd lol, it would be cool if this became huge

  • Would be great to see this as Olympic sport. International appeal will grow, like other sports (Curling, Judo). The sport is deep, incorporating not just knights, but also squires, smiths, horses, etc. Imagine the national heroism bestowed upon prevailing knights. The commercial opportunity is great. Sir Lancelot endorses Round Table Pizza. Mmm. People may be inspired to learn history or even practice a chivalry in the modern age. SCA has laid the groundwork. Who knows someone on the IOC?

  • @JonathanRoberts66, Man I wish.

  • @JonathanRoberts66 I second that!

  • badowner there was a style with the hard lances we called light armour you would hit a big shield instead of a grided grand guard

besides when your in that suit your flexability is greatly reduced so all you really need is a 10ft pine dowel with a 1ft balsa just so you know I am the guy stoping the horses coming toward the camera ( with a fractured L3 from doing this sport a month before

  • Jousting had to be integrated with Olympic sport

  • It has no international apeal, its a european middleage art, but thats also what makes it cool.

  • this is so degrading to the english jousting comps, america always has the way to make something shit, just like your cars. SHIT. Fuck US thanks for the recession arseholes!

  • Shut up dumbfuck! this comp was held in Canada retard!

  • Sorry Canada is awesome!!!!!!!

  • Just like our cars? HAHAHAHAHA!

American muscle whoops any import car's ass and you know it.

Nothing can beat a 440 Magnum, Mopar

  • Fuck you Texas. Get off your bull, and try a horse.

  • This is siiick

  • Full contact.. yeh, but I would also want to see REAL medieval lances made with thick wood. Besides that the competitors were great... amazing sport.. we need more of those.. by the way are the lances light or is it just me? shouldn't they be much heavier and bigger?

  • i know they're renaissance fags but these guys have balls

  • i can't beileve we stll do this!!!! best game in my opinion.

  • im going to see this tommorow at columbus

  • the music kinda ruined it but oh well

  • watch "a knight's tale"

  • i cant believe berkey moved on...

  • what is the difference between the jousting today and the jousting in medieval times, wasn't their lances a bit bigger before?

  • yes and the lances weren't made of rubbish as in the medieval time the lances were sharp (sometimes) and made of hard wood. and Great Knights could unseat another knight VERY neatly unlike this, the lances didnt break so easily

  • back in the 80's we had these and he used the real hard wood but i'm a bit older now and just help out with this stuff and yes, compared to the medievel times, these jousting sticks are pussies

  • Last one I helped on there were hardwood lances in there. I wouldn't call that wimpy.

  • well before lances were a lot harder. now the lances tend to bend and break more easily, making it easier and more safe for the "knights"

  • do they still do this if they do wat channel is it on

  • Is there any where you can learn this sport?

I mean like a school or something?

  • try joing the society for creative anachronism. you can learn basically any medieval skill through it. i know that they have jousting, and though it may take some searching, they can probably find you a teacher.

  • what society?

  • it's called the "Society for Creative Anachronism." look it up on the web. there's groups all over. there'll be a link to click on to find the group nearest to you. i'm learning to sword fight right now x)

  • ever try escalator jousting?

  • LOL I cant try this at home EVEN if I want to.

  • it looks pretty sweet, but...maybe they should modernise the set a little. its looking...really traditional? lol

  • it's supposed to look authentic

  • Just a comment to read... yes the Jousting sport is small - but bigger then you think WORLD WIDE, there are actual jousting championships held in each country particapting and finaly meet at the national, our company was fortunate enough to film this championship held in London Ontario... We are currently working on the TV reality show - shhh still on the drafting table... but we have all the video anyways.

Cheers - jousting fans and those who don't like it - don't watch it.

  • @hpndvr PLEASE get the reality show going! This is what we need to see...not the douche's on jersey shores.

    This is amazing!

  • @hpndvr How do I get on the reality show? just call me Heath Ledger I'm willing to change my stars.

  • Im going to become a jousting knight so these guys should watch out

  • I would definately go watch it if it was in my town! A true sport of kings!
