  • Nice Tabla influence! Indian's got rhythm !

  • Thank you, nice piece of articity.

  • you nice 5 string gio

  • this cat is legit

  • this is hot!!!!

  • أنت تهزّز وأنت مروّعة

  • man iam falling in love with middle eastern style bass. i love the way it sounds, if you ever find the time could you send me a message explaining the basics. thanks.

  • @337camo

Raagam's are South east not middle east. To be precise, South India.

  • Daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaammmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmnnn Amazing Slaps Mark King Are you watching.........

  • @Sideybhai this guy is great, but he's not in Mark Kings league, especially with soloing. But Jayen is great and doing something different so hats off to him!

  • This is catchy as all hell :)

  • Thanks a lot sir, this is awesome :) ..........

  • just listened to the song for something like the fifth time in a row. it works on so many levels, like medicine.

  • really good sounding virtuosity. yes its clever, a wonder for the eyes and ears, it is also music that i can feel.

  • I really like this, but I am not sure what makes it so good. Maybe its the hook, maybe its the great skill of an unconventional bass technique, maybe its the way he sings. Regardless, I love this dudes playing.

  • This is some interesting stuff. Very 80's british synthpop sounding, nothing at all from what I was expecting from the "Look" of the musician. Great technique! 5 stars there buddy.

  • the "look?"

careful with that one. perhaps we could give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you're talking about his rather square choice of outfit, or maybe we could call you out for assuming the music should be more "ethnic" because he's not black or white........

    eh whatever

  • @neokimchi

    He said "hook", idiot.

As in, the catchy part of the song.

  • no way this a 150.00$ bass

  • Why not? A $150 bass made with todays production techniques is potentially of a higher degree of *actual* quality than any given 1962 Fender (they produced VERY inconsistent instruments back then). The reason people pay thousands for the old guitar has to do with voo-doo, lore and collector bullshit.

Musical skill is all about the skill and has VERY little to do with the instrument itself. Varmas music doesn't do it for me, but it's neat to see someone apply tabla technique to bass.

  • @RoofFiddler yeah either way the fender is really a piece of shit but i would really like to see this guy play on Musicman or a Warwick bass, also his bass i worth 150 because it not made of real wood and or cheap wood

  • @RoofFiddler lol sorry, get your facts straight buddy. strictly speaking by sound quality and not 'collector bullshit' there is a distinctively different and better sound to an old school first-few-years-of-production fender than the ones made today. chances are youve never actually played one so you wouldnt know. that said, they are DEFINITELY not worth the price if youre buying a bass just for sound quality

  • @GatoradeIsNotJuice *in a not challenging voice* have you played one? Im not gonna say I have, because I have an aria bass, and that suites me just fine.

  • @RoofFiddler WTF?!?!? My 72' tele has more mojo in it than anything ive ever played! You obviously own a maestro or something!

  • omg he is awesome

  • i wonder what bass he uses

  • This guy is awesome, but he makes me laugh my ass off for some reason. The song is kick ass but the first groove thing sounds funny.

  • antimusical !

  • Very impressive..$150.00 bass!..Fear not the weapon, but the hand that wields it !!

  • i love the music and the vocals. your sound is inspirational.

  • Lay off the vocals. Leave that to those pretty girls who do the high-pitched quarter tone bends.

Also, it's against the Geneva Convention to rap through a mustache, Jaco Jr.

  • i think he sounds like claypool...

  • very, very good!!

  • Catchy tune eh?

  • crazy style, it makes me laugh when i see him play its so amazing

  • I can't explain why I like this so much

  • maybe it's beacause of the awesome video presentation and the soothing voice of Mr. Varma :)

  • He's got and interesting playing style.

  • cooocccoooooccccoooooooool man.....

  • nt the fastest bass player....its fasted percussive bass player....that's bcoz guys tike stu hamm who r a lot better than this guy don't do it 4 record.....ne way varma is good too....has his own unique style....\m/

  • 150$ for this guitar?? its a steal!

  • Well it's in India, you gotta remember their $ value is dfferent than ours in America so it probably translates differently. LOL

  • hippie....

  • pretty good.. different technique.. i see you manage slap sound pretty well.. im just wondering how do you manage pop or slap+pop with this style.. would like to try this style.. All the best dude.. and definitely you are pretty good.. :)

  • John Entwistle had a style of play that he used which was very similar to this.

It's on the second part of his 'Bass Masterclass' video that you can find here on youtube.

  • damn this dude can slap his bass like a pimp slaps his hoe :)

  • damn this dude can slap his bass like a pimp slaps his hoe :)

  • ive been trying to slap like that but i tend to get the steve harris pluck in the process

    which is annoying

  • I tried slapping like that and I dont know how you do it, man.

  • his slap style looks a little bit like that of doug wimbish

  • There are not enough words to describe this amazing talent in any language. Fabulous! -Jimmy

  • wow yeah man that's it!!

  • its incredible how he can such a slap sound without using his thumb

  • Nice music..

I suggest you upload the same in 'Dynamycdesi'.It is a online talent contest site for people and gives an award to the'Best Talent'.

  • good is very good song

  • I like the song actually :P But that's just my weird taste of music. And besides, his slap technique is very cool :P

  • pretty good

  • hes pretty good i just really dislike the song

  • victor wootin is better

  • is wooten the only bass player u know? this is a stupid afirmation...there is no such thing as a better or best.... this guy is good in his style, wooten is good in his style

  • While Victor and Jayen might both be good in their own styles, but there is such thing as better or best. Victor Wooten is better than I am, that's a fact.

  • Most bassists only aknowledge Wooten just because they saw him do a weird solo that sounded cool

  • He thinks he is playing tablas

  • I love it.

    5 stars

    ^_^

Sometimes the simplest licks are the best sounding.

  • This has got to be one of the coolest bass videos I have ever seen. Jaymen-ji is using tabla techniques on the bass; a technique I have never seen used thus. This is brilliant, and it opens up the bass to all sorts of rhythmic and harmonic possibilities. I love it.

    Rock on, Jayman-ji!

  • doesnt that sweatband thing play hell with your open notes?i do a lot of walking and id hate to have to avoid open strings

  • It mutes it very gently... Try it.

  • claypools better

  • yeah like whammola

  • Yeah his style does remind me of Claypool's. Maybe it is some of the unusual scales.

Also a couple of bits remind me of Stanley Clarke.

  • buckethead and bootsy collins are the best bass players ever

  • he's quick. but no mark king.

  • This guy is good, but you should all check out ryan martinie, he is like the fastest bassist i've seen.

  • mudvayne? ryan martinie is good bt i can play his stuff. but this guy is better. still neither are THAT impressive. . jaco pastorious invented intricate bass and always will be the greatest.but check out the jazz pistols. oh and bucket head is a guitarist

  • East Indians, its hard to take them seriously playing Western style music, especially singing. But hey he does it pretty convincingly.

  • I cant understand why I like this so much

  • The slappingpart is cool but he is not the fastest...

  • what about flea from the red hot chili peppers? i guess he´s as fast as this guy.

  • flea can't play that fast actually.

  • But he is as fast as this guy.**

  • Ah haha I get it. This is part of the "shreds" series right?

  • He has a very unique technique... Awesome player!

  • This is amazing. Could someone please enlighten me on what the band around the end frets is for?

  • It is for muting. Many bass players and even some guitar players use them. Victor & Reggie Wooten both use them.

  • sure ... his weird tap-slap style would make unused strings make a sound so this band does just mute the empty strings ... kinda fake to do it hehe :-)

  • I'm not certain, but I think it's to help reduce "string noise".

  • some people use a sweatband or a hair band to stop unwanted noise and mutes the strings slightly

  • he does everything so casually! and what a slap technique!

  • Badass technique. This guy is great.

  • tabla bass!!!!

  • india,s musicians are great, ever heard of shri? best bassplayer from india.

  • Get a Warwick to bring the growl already! Nice playing!

  • I love your funky bass lines there man! I've only been playing bass a year, and its funky stuff like that, that keeps me inspired to keep on playing! Thank you for this sweet video!!!

  • that´s awsome!

nice bass, nice sound and god damn what tech.
