  • wauw.. that is very good.. :D

  • Haha, your child is on the corner? xD

I love whistle, you play really goooooooood

  • I just got a wooden whistle with 6 holes.. Think it is this design.. going to learn but hard to find time when on bording school .. I just wantet to tell you that Im looking forward to play like a master, as you do :) .. Thank you for the fine fine music :)

  • @fiskerlord find out what key your whistle is in. either by finding it written, or testing the notes with a chromatic tuner (download one). Then you will know what scale it plays naturally and how to make notes. if it is not in any key (likely scenario with a toy) then buy yourself a whistle - they are as cheap as $4

  • JAJAJA ES UN PLAYER

  • nice playing

  • AWSOME. Contemplating getting a whistle just to learn this piece.

  • Awsome! What kind of Editing software do you use ? :)

  • Video is running through my webcam and the audio is running through my Samson CO1U condensor microphone. I used Windows Movie Maker and processed the audio through Adobe Audition.

  • Thanks :) i love the echo sound it adds alot to the sound quality of the music

  • this is great!!!

  • nice

  • :D that's so cool it would be fun to play it but I don't get used to instruments I think haha well great job love the sound of it

  • love it! i'm learning the whistle too, just from sheet music mostly, i'm thinking of starting the low whistle, is there a suitable low whistle for a beginnner you'd recommend? something not too pricey, and not to difficult to handle?

  • where does one go to learn tinwhislte? I've been learning off some sheet music i found at fullbodyburn, but that doesn't give any ornamentation. is there a good webiste that can teach some of this stuff?

  • well there's Ryan Duns who's a teacher and posts videos on youtube. you can search for him under RyanDunsSJ. He's really good. I've been playing for 6 months now on my own, and I can do ornaments thanks to him :-)

  • What type of whistle are you using? And what would you suggest for a beginner who has never played an intstrument before?

  • In this video I'm using a Burke Brass Pro Sessioner in D -- they run about $180.

For a beginner, I recommend a Clarke Sweetone -- these are tin/aluminum whistles which plastic mouthpieces and the mouthpiece (the most important part of the whistle) is of a very good design in a Sweetone. They cost about $8-$12 at most music stores.

If you have a bit more money, google TONY DIXON and order his TRAD whistle -- it runs about $30 USD is a great low/intermediate whistle with a great trad sound.

  • are looking at a tv screen or a computer?

  • This was done with my Logitech webcam -- it looks out of phase because of the stupid color correction that's always auto-adjusting.

  • sigh...I really luv it! Wanna get my hands on a tin whistle and mess with it until i can get sum tunes out of it! thks for vids!

  • WOW! what song was that? did you memorize all of that?!?! That was SOO good! I wish I were that good...

  • The first half was Tobin's Favorite. The second half was Garret Barry's and, yep, all memorized. Most all Irish music is learned by ear and played from memory, so I only have a small repertoire of about 30 tunes or so memorized. I know people who have *hundreds* memorized.

Thankfully, Irish music has a very predictable structure and is only written in a few keys, which makes it easy to learn. :)

  • how long did it take you to comfortably play tin whistle? as a metal guitarist and bassist ive always found irish folk as a pleasant change of genre at times from all the intense shred metal has. Anyway ive always wanted to learn tin whistle. nice job.

  • well i do hope you'll put those cuties in some sort of dance class. (i was in irish and highland dance) one of my dads dreams was fulfilled the night his band played and i danced on stage with them. HAPPY ST.PATRICKS DAY!! have fun with the demonstration at school!

    -r

  • my favourite part of this video (aside from the awesome tin whistle playing) is that there's a really cute baby in the corner of the screen just sittin' there hanging out. i'm assuming the tin whistle player is dad. and as i am a child from a family where celtic music was ingrained in me from a very young age it makes me happy that this little baby is already getting to experience this. WOOHOO!!

    keep up the tradition!!

    -rachelle =D

  • Father of two girls, yep! If you watch closely, you'll see a couple more glimpses of kids. I think there's one video where she's asleep in a swing, as well.

In fact, today (St. Patty's Day), I'm going to my oldest daughter's school to give a demonstration and small concert for her classmates. Guitar, Octave Mandolin, Concertina, Bodhran, Whistles and anything else I can find laying around the house, heh!

  • By now you most likely are sick and tied of me asking a different set of questions everyday...lol...so the tarnish is like leaving blood on a battle axe...people just know when you are a bad ass...

  • I wouldn't say that now... :) As slight as it is, I feel the patina gives the brass an even more slightly darker tone. I enjoy the look as well.

  • I checked on the Burke site and the Brass Pro Sessioner in D and also seeing other D Sessioners and they all have a bright shiny finish...I like yours better it almost looks like gold colored composit...just wondering.

  • Brass tarnishes -- that's the patina or the buildup of tarnish you get over the years of owning one. :)

  • very lovely...i play a little tin whistle myself....cute baby in the back ground by the way lol

  • She makes appearances in the background of a few of my videos. :)

  • We love your music!! Um, does anyone else listening have a cat? Our (male and neutered) cat goes crazy for tim whistle music and gets his toys and licks them when he hears the music, like they're babies... has anyone else experieced this???

  • yeah lol my cat goes crazy :)

  • Just wanted to tell you I enjoy the music you make and share with everyone very much!

  • Thanks!

  • Wow, this is awesome. How do you learn new stuff? Can you read music? I, sadly, can not. But I'm trying to learn penny whistling. So far I have learned Mary Had A Little Lamb and that song that goes "There's a place in France where the naked ladies dance..." on my own.

  • How long did you have to practice to get this good? I am trying to persuade my girlfriend to get me an Irish Tin whistle for Christmas.

My spirit churns when I hear any Celtic music. :)

  • I've been messing around with the whistle for about 7 or 8 years, though I've really focused on learning traditional Irish music for the last two and a half years or so.

  • i want this exact model whistle whered you get it

  • This is a Michael Burke (Brass Pro Sessioner) -- I got it from his Website. Another of my favorites.

  • Damn good!

  • Nice :D I'm still trying to learn the basics of the penny whistle, since I just found my old cheap one a few days ago.

  • Well, definitely be sure to check out my website: whistlethis (dot) com -- I have lots of traditional tunes to learn and host Ryan Duns' instruction videos on learning how to play whistle in the traditional Irish style!

  • hey chade how r ya mate? wat whistle r u usin? i got a new tony dixons d.. have a few new videos aswell, but i was suffering a bad hangover wen i recorded so be nice, lol

  • I'll try to check them out today -- in this video I'm using an old Burke Brass Pro Sessioner in D. In session, for louder tunes, I'm using a Copeland Nickel whistle in D. I have a Burke Aluminum Viper Low D and am trying to get used to my Copeland Brass Low D... Man, I'm such a brand whore. ;p

  • lol, im becoming more like that too, a friend of mine (a professional musician) shes using a copeland d nickel plated whistle, it takes alot of air. im barely getting used to my tony dixons hehe, take it easy mate

  • I have the same whistle -- they do take a bit more air, and they're LOOUUD. Sometimes I feel like I have to apologize to the person next to me if it's a quieter session. :) The bad thing with that, is when I get into the upper octave, I want to back off a bit to keep the volume down which usually makes me crack the note because of the air requirement.

  • well mate thats somthing both us are gona have to get use to :) lol im the same and i feel even worse wen ya get the squeeky noise from not blowin hard enough, yeah, so from now on were just gona to be a bit more inconsiderate in sessions.. and just play till ur hearts content.. take care mate

  • cool
