The reason Jericho doesn't speak is because he was kidnapped by "Slade" Wilsons aka Deathstroke's enemy and his throat was cut. Later in the comic he goes blind too, but gains his sight back in Black Knight. Slade also has a daughter in the comic called Rose aka Ravager.
