I still don't get the "Sunny". The CC screen showed it was Partly Cloudy, and this was before the days of "Clear below such and such FT." Any one know how it could display this?
I'm not sure if this is accurate or not, but I think occasionally the conditions on the ticker would update before the CC screen could update. So it's quite possible that the CC screen still showed the 8:50 observations, while the ticker showed the 9:50 observations. And I'm pretty sure I've seen a video from 1999 that had the "Clear Below 12,000 ft" on the ticker as well. But I'll look around just to be sure... Hope this helps! :-)
Oh, I see. You don't get why it says "Sunny" vs "Clear Below 12,000 ft". It's because Columbus AFB is one of the few stations that aren't automatic, meaning there's a human there to augment the observations. The automatic stations can only detect clouds below 12,000 ft, and since there still may be a cloud deck above that height, it shows as "fair/clear below 12,000". But at non-automated stations, a human can verify whether or not there is a cloud deck above 12,000 ft, translating to sunny.

I agree with 1999, but 2005 is the year TWC started going down the tubes.
