i remember when this happened. everyone from houston came to san antonio. in the supermarket, all the food was gone, and the gas stations were filled!
Aside from the 23 killed when a bus carrying nursing home evacuees caught fire and exploded during the evacuation, there were a large number of people who died in the weeks following the hurricane due to the effects of being stuck in cars in 98 degree heat, without A/C (because people on the interstate were running out of gas). Elderly people just aren't meant to be locked inside cars in those conditions for such long periods.
and it's not the OCMS either...its the management wanting to bring about "change" CHANGECHANGECHANGE, its like everyone goes orgasmic over it....change is what brought TWC ratings down...the golden years=2000-2006(pre A&B)...they had it right then....now not so much
I remember Rita, everyone left and started to panic. We had to leave for Austin and it was packed!!! Some of my friends went to San Antonio and Dallas. If Rita did hit Houston, I would still be in Austin by now.
@kibbutskill yep..about three weeks after Katrina.

I especially like the historic video footage of category four hurricane Carla (1961) shown during Stephanie Abrams report in Galveston, Tx.:)
