  • This video says it's been converted from 3d .... really?

  • Very fast vintage lift. I often wondered if that place had vintage lifts

  • Nice find. It would be better when not having this floor indicator. It ruins the atmosphere a lot.

  • @PostTower Yeah it is a shame that it was modded :(

  • Damn! That elevator is a rocket!

  • Nice find. but I really hate the way it has been modernized.

I have found several lifts like this in london, where the building owner just wants a lift that looks old but dosn't care about it being in its original condition.

I do not believe it is the oldest lift in london.

I have been to a few places that claim they have the oldest lift, then later I find a lift older.

There are many old lifts not known about.

  • Some of the old attendant driven lifts had electro mechanical flag indicators to show each landing call ,a little flag would flick across a small hole in the car panel corresponding to the floor when a landing push was pressed and was manualy reset by the attendant when the call was ansered.

  • @keithhuddy Funnily enough they still use a similar system after a goods lift is installed in a high rise building like over the wharf. The flags are LEDS next to buttons that light up against the floor inside the car where the corresponding laning button is pressed. The driver then answers the call. Stops all the damage and messing with the lifts while the building is being fitted out. Know as an annuciator panel.

  • Very awesome. Favourited

  • I like this elevator..

  • @dieselducy dieselducy its otis

  • Excellent video and what a beauty of an elevator. Thanks for the subscription and the friend invite. An excellent find the elevator is. I wish England was not so far from the states as as I always wanted to visit London and the surrounding country.

  • that lift must have been modernised many times, firstly the guides would have been wooden, they modernise them about 1950,then start on motor and controller must have been rewired about 3 times, a very looked after lift by the repair dept.

  • @express777100 This originally was an Express lift with a huge Express/SMS gearless motor. B4 it was modernised in 2008 it had a massive Thames valley Controller and DC Drive cabinet. This and the adjacent ladies lift had new alberto sassi machines and otis controllers fitted. Bet the old coils would be worth a lot nowadays!

  • @LondonKilla have you ever worked on it, those coils would fetch a fortune these days.was allways repair fitters perks, bet the firm want them back these days.

  • @express777100 Yeah loads of times. Main problem were the landing locks. They are dewhurst which lock the landing door by a pin sliding in from the side when the cam lifts. SInce them 2 were modernised we hardly went there apart from the old otis luggage lift and staff lift. Usually doors knocked off. The field coils were huge of course nowadays they want them back but want doesn't me get !

  • @LondonKilla remember dewhurst locks, m/scott allways used them, they made controllers as well, never saw any dewhurst stuff on express or schindler, they made all their own motors and generators and all equipment, i dont think ive heard of alberto sassi machines, i feel like an apprentice again when im chatting to you.

  • @express777100 :D Dewhurst are a huge company. They actually own Thames valley Controls and also manufacture buttons for not only lifts but keypads on cash machines & petrol pumps also buttons on trains doors etc Worldwide. They now manufacture cops for a lot of the big companies simply to fit to lifts at the clients request as they dont always want standard company buttons. Sassi stuff is usually used on small modernisation jobs. They are an Itallian based company

  • @LondonKilla 7 thanks for that info, i think mr mattandchay like getting up to date info of you as well.

  • IMHO, maybe around the mid 85's to the mid 90's.

    AWESOME Video by the way.

  • Was that modernized? It has an indicator....

  • @EpicityTech Yep, it has been modernized. 115 years ago they didn't have LED indicators or buttons. This lift used to be manually controlled. It's hard to guess what date it was modernized... perhaps someone reading this could offer an opinion?

  • @Anjasomc I guess it has been modernized several times since 1896

  • @Anjasomc It was modernised in 2008 by Otis. They machine is an albeto sassi machine and Otis Mcs 220 controller. It used to originally be an Express lift with huge DC motor and huge a thames valley controller. Before that it would have probably been a slate board contrller with generator drive and manual control stopping. There is a ladies lift around the side of this 1 with auto doors modernised by otis at the same time>

  • Many congratulations! One of the world’s great lifts and amongst the most desirable to video in England, and you got it. You get credit, Anjasomc, for a scoop!
