Letts is having a Career Year and is usually a very clean player, good hits and no cheap shots!!! This was clearly a bad hit! But you would be crazy to believe that out of all the Tri team Pickard was the target! Players get Frustrated and when Tri's tough guys wont answer the call this stuff happens!!! I didn't mean that Sauter wanted Pickard or any player to get hurt. I said that he wanted to send a message by having his checking line start something. I didn't have enough space to articulate that Letts was the one that took it too far. Any way you look at it though it has been handled. Letts is gone up to the third game of the playoffs, it looks like Pickard will be back in time for the second season, and Sauter got a game. I just hope this doesn't turn the last two games into free-for-alls.

Look at the facts. Blow out game, coach puts his checking line with his two enforcers on the ice, Tri has undersized 16 & 17 year olds out there... You don't have to be a genius to see that the Chiefs coach wanted a message sent to TC. It was in Spokane also, so he got the last change before the faceoff. Sauter wanted a message sent, but Letts went too far. And no, he didn't hit Pickard incredibly hard, but he did hit him into the pipe. No reason for stuff like that from either team.

What's really sad is that none of you realize how this really is the result of the biggest rivalry in the WHL being enflamed at the end of a season after it had to be settled the previous year with a 7-game playoff which included 8 periods of overtime. There's a big difference between a collision behind the net when the goaltender steps in front of someone and when a skater deliberately blindsides a goaltender in his crease after the whistle. There was nothing but pure intent in that and until the league deals with it, he got off easy. That should have been a match penalty.
