Shutter Island is real masterpiece - great acting, directing, producing, everything. Some moments were even scary. Leonardo DiCaprio is real master (Leo acts even better than Johnny Depp). Ben Kingsley and Mark Ruffalo were great as well but I don't understand why so many people found the ending unpredictable. I predicted the ending after first 20-30 minutes. This movie is masterpiece but not as unpredictable as The Others, The Game, Identity, Fight Club, Cube 2 or The Prestige

It isn't always about the ending. The journey is just as/if more important. I read a spoiler before i saw this film and was aware of the big drop.

But i found the whole journey to sanity as fulfilling as the big twist. There is also the twist after the drop when we viewers realise that Teddy choses being a shell of man rather then living with guilt that he murdered his wife. Bittersweet at its suffering, glorious best. 5/5

Im 3/4 of the way through this great masterpiece, but about 1/4 of the way through I figured it out. Then I started seeing the even BIGGER picture. The whole movie is a perfect metaphor for humanities enslavement on this Earth! DeCaprio plays the role of the "lost" human and Shutter Island is the metaphoric earth. The cave part is a metaphor for those on the outside of "modern day society", while the prison represents countries and cities that are totally controlled. The rest u can figure out :)

First, Martin Scorsese stole ideas from the movie Infernal Affairs then made the movie The Departed, then somehow he got a leak of the idea in the movie Inception then made it shutter island. Both with a world alternate reality, having visions of a dead wife, mystery of dead wife revealed later, surprisingly same gong sound, same lead actor, getting confused of which one is real or not, etc.. I liked this movie but it's not original.
