Great dog. My buddy has one like that, but it smells so bad, I try to keep my distance. He's too old to bathe with his sensitive skin. He's very nice though. How old do these things get? His is a mixed breed and will be 16 in a few weeks.
@rickysrejects They live to be 12 or 13 at the most...a mixed breed like your friend's dog could live a lot longer. A purebred deerhound does not smell unless it has some sort of health issue. That's one of the great things about the breed....the lack of odor.
aww. my faverout dogs.. ive had a few. . best temperment i think :) but i have had some that are daft as a brush :) but in a good way heheh.. extreamly loyal too.. and good workers if you can control the playfulness. but. inside the house they are verry diffrent dog (lazy) or respectful :) beautiful amazing dogs :) and yes they love to bounce hehe . but is acually bad. one of mine tore a heart vessle doing it.. :( when they get old there playfulness is the death of them it seems.. lovely dogs!
Wow, still this is longer than I expected it to be. Anyways, have a German Shorthaired pointer since 3 weeks now. The other breeds will have to wait a little ;), but thanks for the info.
I have a dog that I think may be part wolfhound and/or deerhound.
He bucks and plays almost exactly like this one and chews on sticks and balls but really doesnt play fetch, its more of a keep-away game and tug-of-war.
I have a deerhound X. He kinda fetches. You'll chuck the ball away and he'll bring it back, but getting it out of his mouth is a different matter entirely!
Bravo Whiskey! Can you teach us to do that? We just noticed, if you look ever so closely, that Browny B is seen briefly and Fitzy actually has a moment of movement!

they look identical to the irish wolfhound

@ThrashMetalGuy
The irish wolfhound has a harsher face, and doesnt have a convex (ish) profile. The wolfhound also stands slightly taller than the deerhound.

Aww, he's so happy to be running around with his family, and he prances like a deer :P
Is this your backyard? I saw a white fence. It's a beautiful place for these dogs to play :)

He does not fetch...ever. He sort of throws the ball around for himself and runs after it.
