I stopped watching when the black guy started lieing about buying options and making a ton of money and when the white guy started screaming the sky is falling down
WATER, FOOD, COMMUNITY, AND BODY TEMPRERATURE!, looks like people are not getting the big picture. END OF GROWTH, permaculture, transition, resilience, relocalization! damn! people believe technology is saving us
Great debate...idealist vs the realist...Cap man is cool but he made a mistake, I think he ment Silver is the industrial metal not gold...Silver is whats in all our computers, solar panels, cars, clothing, iphones, etc, and its dropping in supply cause its not recycled, and demand is increasing. Volitile yes, but a better investment than gold. Cool footage, true democracy when 2 citizens can have a near heated yet civil debate on the street about their country.'
I wish the white guy would have spit his big question out at the end... I was thinking it was going to be something like, "You can ask how can we continue to grow this economy?... and my question would be 'Why would we want to?'"
Gold is just metal in the end. Sure it is metal, which is better than paper. But we are running out of resources, one resource is energy. Humankind spends 30 billion barrels of oil in a year.
Total anarchy of society is not good either, because people need to co-operate to maximize the efficient use of resources we have left. Co-operation can be voluntary or paid through taxes. But there needs to be some actions towards better world, and it is difficult for individuals do it alone.
Gold acts as a substitute or medium of exchange. So it is more than just a metal because people will still need to trade goods and services with each other in a SHTF scenario.
Gold and Silver are metals. People do not eat metals. People eat food. People use metals to make technology. Do not stockpile metals, convert them in to usable products. Stockpile food. Simple.
Gold is as much a social convention as paper currency. When the assurance of a government is shaky, people turn to gold and gems, but gold per se is a poor form of currency. Fluidity and confidence in a government's stability, policies, and backing is the best assurance of stable value for currency, not a bunch of gold bars sitting in the basement of a building. Gold is a trade commodity; we might as well base currency on pork bellies. Currency itself is an abstraction.
Middle eastern dude looked coked out and he may have been about to stab someone.

What would happen if America just isolated itself from the world for 5 years? I think we would be a successful country again.

@757bobwhite Black guy knows his currencies and history of the dollar, but he is a single issue guy. He can't see the big picture passed currency.
