This is a great song.. the problem with it is that it doesn't sound like Van Halen. It sounds more like Foreigner or Journey or something. Van Halen with Roth were a raw, hard hitting hard rock band with a really tight groove. Van Hagar had a really polished, mainstream kinda sound. That, and Sammy is so.. goofy. DLR was the shit back in the late 70s/80s. He'd fuck your girlfriend, and you wouldn't care. Sammy just seems like a bit of a bellend. Having said that, I still love both eras.

I hate this Sammy vs DLR crap! Honestly I am a huge Sammy fan as I love his style, but I also liked DLR. Personally I liked VH better with Sammy. Eddie is great, but also an alcoholic jerk too. That's why Sammy left and Michael Anthony went with him as Sammy is a great guy. If you never went to a show on Sammy's Cabo Wabo tour you missed a great show. I still like VH though. I have loved Sammy since his Montrose days!

@FloraBama i think you have to look at the musical style of both Vocalists, when Sammy was there, the music was far more melodic with a softer edge, where as when Dave was there, it was far more raw, Listen to VH1, when Eddie does a solo, he doesn't even do a backing for the solo, just from Rhythm to lead in one swoop, One band, two eras, two types of music, both done well, now who else could pull that off so well?

I must confess one thing i been a fan fan of van halen, since fair warning came out in 1981,and to me the one and only frontman of van halen is David Lee Roth,and the music he made with van halen during his period with the band.I never liked the music sammy hagar made with van halen,to me the real van halen is when Diamond Dave is the frontman.And the music he has made with van halen and hopefully will make more music with van halen.

I grew up N the dark side of metal, not having MTV as a teen!! So I always thought the bass player 4 Van Halen was "Van Halen!!" Lol Then on "That Metal Show" I heard that the bassist was "dissed" so if not 4 Sammy Hagar, I wouldn't recognize who is N the band unless the sound distinction of the guitar style. My favorite song of all time! Sammy's scream goes right through my soul and comes back around to slap me in the face. David Lee Roth and Sammy Hagar are both great with Van Halen and I never compared the two. I just prefer Sammy's style more than David's. That takes nothing away from David Lee Roth because in his own way Mean Street was a monster to me when I heard it the first time! Sammy has more heart and Soul in his style. He's not as Heavy as David Lee Roth. Just my opinion, whatever.
