  • ...and though it is 5 years ago today that the world lost Michael, this clip has been and is likely to remain a favorite of mine, the one that best accompanies me when drifting and chasing the concept of the Sublime. The planet misses you, Mike!

  • the notes that Michael chooses to sit on are just brilliant!!! This gives me the chills everytime. RIP Michael Brecker<3

  • So much control, so much invention, so much range and variety. The 'State of the Tenor'!

  • 3:54 - 6:34 no words for this...too great for humanity

  • This is an amzaing lyrical video. It is all the more poignant given the fact we have lost Michael. I just have one question, who was the idiot that is tone deaf and dislikes it..? My good ness this is a wonderful song. Thanks

  • 5:55 I love that line

I love that whole solo burst, hell, I love every Michael's sax doing

  • Everytime I listen to this wonderful piece I got goosebumps and tears in eyes at the same time. Have any of You heard ever more haunting and beautyful sax tone? Trane said, that the best tone had Stan Getz, but He never heard Michael's tone :)

  • @8art The Guardala helps. But Michael sounded fantastic whatever he was blowing through.

  • I really love this song and Michael Brecker... I think, no one can play sax like him.. anyway, I need to practice his technic.. Who has the book of Michael brecker..? thank you

  • Bloody marvellous

  • Awesome - thank´s for posting!!!

  • It amazes me that Mike was only a man, not a god. He was just Mike, in the most amazing way possible. :)

  • Typical Mike Stern's ballad, I love it, beautiful !!!

    Thanks man.

  • I appreciate how this video has lasted 3 years without a dislike.

  • @ICEMAN6282

    Ya :)

With over 40,000 views I am very pleased too.

This song is the reason I made this channel - its heavenly eh ?

  • @CommonGroundMusic I know, i keep coming back to it at least every month. still gives me goosebumps.

  • @CommonGroundMusic only a human with no soul would click that button.

Although an accident can happen. Not from me of course.

Thanks - I love this video. Mike Stern's tune is best here.

  • @CommonGroundMusic its my sleeping pill

  • Respond to this video... but in a really good way not in a bad way

  • @ICEMAN6282 jinx.

  • A legendary player

  • Michael is number one forever!

  • Songs like this remind me why I listen to jazz..the sublime textures that these artists create takes me to another place....Simply beautiful..Randy , Mike andDdennis are awesome...and MIke can never be replaced..Bravo

  • Does anyone have the chart for this tune?

  • Love this !! Lets give credit to Mike Stern for writing this awesome mood piece / composition that the Brckr Bros were able to display their ballad chops on.

Stern truly has written a number of excellent slow tempo melodies over the years, simliar to this one with great chord contrstruction and resolution. They typically involve saxophone as well (ie, Bob Berg, Bob Malach, Bob Franceschini, et al). This particular tune was just guitar + band on Sterns cd Odds and Evens (1991).

  • @hoffus Excellent comment! :)

  • Pra mim o Melhor Album dos Breckers...Musica Sensacional, improviso fantastico...

  • incredible musicians..! great Mike Stern... great Dennis Chambers... great all!!

  • Maravilhoso esse momento dos Brecker Brother, pra mim é um dos albuns que eu mais curto ouvir.

    Muito criativo e conceitual.

  • I've transcribed Michael's solo... but if someone could help me with what he's playing at 6:14-6:16... I would be very happy :P

    Grtz!

  • @Gummi20 If you can tell what chords he's improvising over then it's probably an arpeggio pattern (probably a 3rd inversion)

  • These are legendary players....

  • I'm getting quite tired of people always talking about Michael. :/

Come on! Share the love! Randy's amazing!

This is the "Brecker Brothers"! Not "Micheal Brecker"!

  • @OfficialChannelOfHi Michael had (and still has) a greater influence on sax players today than Randy has to trumpet players....Randy is a GREAT player, but Michael is a LEGENDARY MONSTER of the sax....Randy did not transform the entire paradigm of trumpet playing like Michael did for sax players. I still love them both!

  • Nice...

  • AMAZING. I am learning breckers licks around 5:40 right now. Nice

  • Every Mike's solo is something magic...it looks like wrote down on a method for the perfect improvisor...every note with the right energy...the right sense..musically and rithmically...the only one great master of all times...

  • does anyone know where to find sheet music of this tune? It's amazing. The whole band plays it wuth so mutch tension...

  • such great soul and emotion! I love songs like this!

  • Thank you Michael...RIP

  • Wiltner...Coltrane was not a founding Father of Be Bop. No Big Deal. Karrowarro02, are you fucking crazy? Dennis Chambers is one of the best drummers out there!

  • aaaah!!!!! Why ??

  • What is there to hate about him... I'm looking/listening, see/hear only excellence?!?!

  • why do you hate chambers?!

  • You have got to get yourself checked

  • You're all alone with that comment.

  • beautiful

  • I wished they would have played more stuff like this ...you know...they were so expressive

  • PLEASE PUT SPHERICAL BACK UP!!

it was my ultimate favorite and i would really appreciate it please :)

  • If you can't get the feeling of the tune then you can't under stand brecker brothers

  • sense comentaris

  • Michael Brecker is the 'standard' for so many tenor players the world over. Coltrane and Parker are the founding fathers of modern be bop saxophone playing. Randy Brecker seemed to be the creative genius of the brothers, writing all the best tunes. This is one of Mike Stern's finest compositions though.

  • Great tune and playing - thanks so much for the post. T Woods

  • brecker is without a doubt the greatest musician to ever pick up a saxophone...truly one of the musical geniuses of our time...he is missed truly...

now he up in heaven playing with god lol

    rip

    legend

  • Yes Coltrane was a revolutionary but Michael and Randy both were huge pioneers in Jazz Fusion and Jazz/Rock combo, so in a way Brecker was a bit of a revolutionary

  • @usetheforce207 Coltrane took the tenor saxophone to places it's never been before, and Michael took it even further after that. You can hear a heavy Coltrane influence in some of the ideas he expresses, but he forged his own path on the instrument.

  • @Miloshevits couldn't agree more brother

  • The song is so beautiful.... R.I.P Michael.

  • seriosly michael brecker is the best saxophonist that has ever lived, people say he was influenced by john coltrane but if coltrane was still alive he would say he is influenced by michael brecker

  • usetheforce207 - that's completely TRUE!

  • I had to punch someone in the nose when I heard someone ask if it was Kenny G. Now my fist hurts...

  • @mbos4115 You its is funny no one like Kenny but I never really hear why and did you know he is like the most sold artist for instrumental music so what is all the I don't like kenny a bout please tell me?

  • @mbos4115 haha that is so funny.

  • @mbos4115 "hey dude is that kenny g--" BOOOOMMMMM!!! LOL

  • @mbos4115 yeeees i know i feel the same. jaja

  • @mbos4115 I completely understand your reaction, if I were you I'd go back and hit him again, just for being so stupid

  • @mbos4115 You're supposed to pull your fist OUT !!!!!!!!!!

  • from which album is this song? Where can I find sheet music of this ? its a awesome ballad

  • This is the title cut of one of Mike Stern's CDs.

  • n that's a real slow sax jam, not that kenny g shit !!!

  • haha yes!!!

  • brecker brothers the roots are in poland small city caled TYKOCIN

  • 请问这首曲子的名字叫什么啊!?

    what's the song's name ?

  • this song is called Common Ground

  • MICHAEL BRECKER = KING.

OMG That's one of the best saxophone song i've ever heard

  • R:I:P MICHAEL BRECKER

  • I saw this performance when they played in London, Brecker was so influential in my life , it was like loosing a friend when he died. He was the best!

  • i've searching a vid of this song... then i saw this one! first time i knew about breckers borthers... michael is great! may he rest well in heaven! God Bless his soul! thanks very much for posting this vid!

  • i would give so much to go back and see this live!!!

  • wow - love it all - especially the ending

    5/5

  • Waited for this video to come online for a long time. What a band. All the songs they play here are better than on the live cd they made for this tour.

Nobody mastered the tenor like Michael.

  • Except his mentor, John Coltrane.

  • Coltrane was mentor of all jazz players, Mr. Brecker is a different player...so, why all of you are trying to compare both of them...?

    Diferent times=diferent players

  • Just amazingggggggggggggggggg!

    Thanks for sharing with us!

    Love U Mike!

    We sadly miss you!

    Best regards

    Mario

  • One of Mike Stern's best tunes ever. Great solo by Mike Brecker. One of his most soulful, if not the most. Great band. Thanks for posting, CGM. I've also been looking for this tune.

  • Beautiful music.
