@freedomclan no problem. Your best bet is to try and get it right in the camera, and with proper lighting - but this is a good backup, or method to use just to touch up certain spots that might have been a little dark.

You got to love Photoshop there are just so many ways of doing the same thing, it just comes down to what works best for the image your working on.
I like this technique for isolating people, especially hair and really detailed areas that would just be too hard to get in there and erase out pixels.

but when I use the dodge tool, it does affect the subject that I was shooting , like the sun glasses in your example.
is that normal?

Watch the intensity - I use 15% most of the time. Also make sure you adjust your brush size accordingly
