The bigger problem, it seems, in all of this is why a majority of math teachers are not good at their jobs! Your job is to teach math! You should therefore have a desire for teaching and a passion for math. I had the same experiences in middle school. I ended up in ES Math and my teacher was awesome. He wasn't even specifically a 'math' teacher. He was just really good at his job and loved it. He got excited about teaching and had a way of explainging things that made sense like this guy.

@lexxibunnz12 It really doesn't matter which variable you choose. You generally subtract the smaller variable from the bigger variable. And you would combine like terms first. But you do it on either side. For instance if it was 4c+18+c-3=2c-10+2, you would combine liek terms on either side. 4c+c=5c. 28-3=15. 10+2=12. And then you subtract the variable from both sides to gte it on one side. I hope I didn't make that confusing because I barely understand it! :/
