  • Wow, this was amazing. Great stuff

  • radhia is so hott. when she gets angry she is real hott. anyone else agree?

  • YOU R FREAKIN AWSOME! Amzzzzing teacher. This was so perfectly explained. Thank u very much! <3

  • at 9:30 when you said "glycogen on the other hand" did you mean "glucagon"?

  • no talk of cortisol in carbohydrates?

That's really missing it by a mile

  • YOUR AWESOME RADHIA, THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH FOR DOING THESE VIDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Essential carbohydrates?

  • There is no Carnitine in any products listed on the label - usually 0 milligrams because its an unstable molecule and simply evaporates. Make sure you only purchase Montiff's Carnitine - or throw your money away....We tested all of them in an independent laboratory where this was verified...

  • Barry Sears is the hormone "expert" so to speak...

  • Very well explained, thank you.

  • I'm soooo glad I found this channel!

  • I'm a 34 yo male, I do 1/2 an hour of cardio daily I'm 5'8, 145lbs, very low bodyfat, I don't eat dairy, I cut out alcohol and caffeine last year, I eat very few simple carbs, I recently cut out meat, but no matter what I do I always have problems with fatigue. I used to drink tons of coffee and alcohol and ate allot of pasta and other refined carbs. Is it possible that my system is screwed up now? Can I still get hypoglycemic reactions eating complex carbs like brown rice and veggies?

  • I can't get fat if I tried but I do get very tired at times and it interferes with my work. This is why I decided to cut refined sugars out of my diet, it has helped a little but I still have problems with fatigue. The only thing I eat that has sugar in it's ingredients is salad dressing because I don't know what else to put on my salad to give it some flavor. I'm aware of the importance of eating complex carbs vs simple carbs although the popcorn thing surprised me. I'm running out of letters..

  • A+ she did all that for us.. WOW

  • I don't want to leave, YOu are sooooo fabulous!!!

  • Wow I went through all three parts of these videos series and I really learnt a lot! :) Thank you. It is was so much important for me to continue on living a healthier lifestyle! Can't wait to see the other of your videos!

  • LOVE your critical view on Atkins, diets, refined foods, and your way of explaining the whole matter!! Noone ever takes the time to explain it so fully, enabling us to follow through the whole process!! Genius!!

  • Thank you for making these videos! Very informative.

  • I am a dietary-uneducated truck driver, a world of thanks. However throughout the video I was ScReaMinG what do I eat, when you name types of foods that contain good examples it gets the message across better than describing the scientific functions. K.I.S.S.

  • Radhia i gotto admit, you helped me understand atkins diet in a very simple way. I read wikipedia articles, magazines but none could come close to your explanation. A sincere thank you!

  • IT HELPED A LOT!! THANKS!

  • WOw!

    What a great video!

Radhia, I'm curious...where did you go to graduate school? I am looking to enroll in a graduate program to become a nutrionist/dietician next year. It is what I've wanted to do for a long time. HOWEVER, I don't want to go to just any school. I want to go to an institution that echoes the same messages you give about whole foods and sensible nutrition.

I would sure like to hear what you have to say.

    Thank you!!!!!

  • so integral flour(bread from integral flour)is also bad for you?

  • If its popped, puffed, flaked, floured, shreadded or instaned its being refined.. :)

    love it

  • so is wole wheat flour considered a simple carb; I know that bleached flour is.

  • I wonder then why the pizza caused the longest insulin response...Because it has cheese on it which adds a considerable amount of fat?

  • great video

  • So someone can loose weight by eating nuts all day which is 100% fat, and still loose weight? I dont believe that. Fat stays as fat once it enters your body , so basiclly your still getting fat..I dont see how fat gives you energy. I perfer complex carbs, the healthy ones. Im on a raw food diet I eat alot of fruit ,veggies, and sprouts, mung beans, buckwheat etc. I feel amazing!! I removed all dairy, meat from my diet.

  • Love your lecture and completely agree with what you say.. I just dont understand chemically speaking, how does blood sugar convert into fat? or how does it get stored as fat? If fatty acids are essential, how come we can convert sugar into fat.. ?

  • @ccspaoli02

because sugar is useless waste to the body that it can not use for anything but energy and if that energy is not used immediately, it's stored long term as fat otherwise they would poison the blood . Fatty acids are actually needed for various functions so body uses them immediatelly.

  • this all makes so much sence. moral of the story is - protein and fats good, carbohydrates bad. long story short. it really works.

  • wow, u didnt listen to a thing she said

  • good stuff, wish she was my teacher

  • very informative thanks alot, once i stopped eating olive oil i oversleep and feel tired now i know why.

  • Is instant oatmeal processed?

  • How do you balance your protein in take and carbohydrate intake? I seem to take alot of protein in and i want to make sure Im doing good.

  • if too much simple carbohydrates are bad then what do we eat to get energy? are fruits good to fuel the body?

  • You can eat Complex Carbohydrates such as Whole grains...

  • so how about ground flax or seseame seeds, raw of course, do they also turn into monosacrides after grounded? seeing they have fats, is it a good thing or what?

  • very well presented, good job

  • You are right and you are awesome. Great Job. I love you!

  • Well Radhia, I eat fat free food and I'm super healthy.

  • Thanks for this video.

  • is milk a fast carb?

  • Milk hovers around the 30's on the Glycemic index so it's fairly moderate in regards to increasing blood sugar levels.

There's also a small deviation on what type of milk you're talking about.

  • ok thanks i ment semmi skimed. do u know wat baked potato and new potato is? on the GI

  • Lactose is a disacharide. It's better than a monosacharide, though still pretty fast..

  • Radhia

This is the first of your videos I ever see, and it's kind of a revelation. I recognize all the separate words but your way of connecting it all makes perfect sense. I'm doing animations and 3D stuff and searching for and see a lot of presentations, but your way of telling with analogies make it perfectly clear without! I think I have to see the rest of your videos a few time when I've seen this one again. Great work!!!

    *****

  • also, i think it's important to mention that the primary role of glucagon is to convert the stored glycogen into glucose when it is required by the body. the body would not use fats as a primary source of fuel or energy.

  • Comment removed

  • just after she says don't get glycogen and glucagon mixed up, she gets them mixed up!

  • will the low glycemic plan work for people with Hashimotos?

  • Radhia

I thought your analogies you used were excellent and easy to understand. The key and lock metaphor was extremely easy to picture in my minds eye. I think you are a terrific nutritional Guru, who puts their message across so effortlessly. It was a joy to watch your sugar-coated telegenic performance. :-)

  • Well said!

  • Thanks for this video. This is very informative.

  • Thank you so much for these videos, they have changed my life. Finally I understand. Now I can teach my children how to eat and hopfully they will not have the health problems I have had. Again thank you!

  • Ive been watching your videos for sometime now and I find them very insightful and informative.Could you pls do a video on hormones, hormone disbalance, bad nutrition and acne? Thanks

  • Comment removed

  • And I actually sometimes get a little more crancky if I excercise about 3 hours after a meal and just before the next meal, and sometimes get a little sleepy after a meal, so perhaps I was just having some problems with insulin and didn't know about it.

  • great video. Thanks for it. Thanks for psychetruth, Radia, Joseph and Natalie for all the information. I'm actually changing my diet thanks to your videos.

This video and the reply to the question in another video actually helped solve a question I had, that was why refined sugar is bad and sugar in fruit is good.

Do talk more about which sugar is bad and which is good, I'm very interested in that.

  • Psychetruth, I hope you one day release a video about high blood pressure. Great videos.

  • great video! I've been on the Raw Foods diet which is mainly fruit and veggies, only a bit of fat. Will this cause me to gain weight? I'm also exercising regularly...Should i eat more fat to lose more weight?

  • oh sug no :3 you are on the right track. You might loose weight faster so good luch

  • another interesting video, well described subject.

think i'll stop taking the rice cakes...

  • NEVER eat anything with a hi GI on an empty stomach! Otherwise you won't stop eating it, and you'll crave more and more of it. So when you eat carbs, make sure you combine it with a fat, protein or a fiber.

  • Very Very good information. Thank you so much for this. I was so lost for like months till this came out :) Thank you a lot. Hey are you going to a portein video? like this one? I would really apprecaite it . Gob Bless.

  • This is the best ,most informative video what i ever seen ,congratulations!

  • Radhia, Very informative! I have cut out 2 things from my diet: any product with high Fructose Corn Syrup and Hydrogenated oils. I also do weight lifting, 3-4 times a week, and go running on the treadmill 3-4times a week. My choleserol (sp?) went down from 280 to less than 200. I weigh 187lb's. The only high glycemic food I have is 1/2 a bagel wth a teaspoon of jam right after a workout with a protein drink. Plus protein drinks before & in mornings. I'd be interested on your thoughts of HFCS etc

  • HFCS = BAD

You seem to have a healthy lifestyle...similar to myself, I try and eat as much raw veg as possible like spinach and brocoli, but minise potatos, white rice, white bread and white pasta. I keep to wholemeal rice, buckwheat and Quinioa which are high in protein and fiber, Olive oil or coconut oil. I also love nuts and eat them throughout the day.

I find it difficult to find a protein shake without any atificial sweeteners though.

  • Try the GNC (general nutrition center) 100% whey protein, it has none, I use it every day. I also use Myoplex and Met-rex. myoplex has a small amount of sucralose at the end of their long list of vitamins and stuff. I don't have white bread or rice, always whole grain. The Nature's Own brand of 100% whole wheat has no junk (HFCS or bad oils) in it. Oroweat also has no jnk, I like their 100% whole wheat hamburger buns, also good for sandwhiches.

  • woah woah woah...I thought fat causes insulin resistance and eating a lower fat diet greatly improves insulin sensitivity. IS THIS a LIE?

  • Um......... YEEEEEEEEES! SUGAR is what insulin regulates, fat has nothing to do with it!

  • In fact, you should get a good amount of fat in your diet everyday. I believe about 20-25%. But which ones? I have cod liver oil (Carlson's lemon flavor is great), fish, chicken and yes lean beef are very good sources. I also have 2 whole eggs with 3-4 egg whites in an omelet too, the fat in eggs is not bad for you like they used to say, in fact are very healthy. I also do a lot of weight lifting, but you could leave out the beef, but it also has some good vitamins etc that other meats don't.

  • Could you streamline this? 21 minutes?

  • Comment removed

  • The glycemic index of "puffed" carbs, such as rice cakes, can be significantly reduced just by adding a little fat, such as in butter or a cheese slice.

  • i thought she would be saying something I know already but I actually learned something, thank you

  • quite so, i have a pretty good rough idea about carbohydrates and diet but she really says it best.

  • Thanks girl!! thsi information comes in handy for me!! keep sharing so good information please! :D

  • i wish i knew about this channel earlier. thank you psychetruth!

  • I can assure you you're right about metabolic control being the key to weight control. Diet's don't work, they can't.

  • Nice, from 12:40 there's a lot of quality information, not to say everything before that isn't, but it's a great context for planning weight loss and a good summary of the series IMO.

    Thanks alot :)

  • thanks you for that explanation - very helpful

have been reading about this for some time but its nice to hear a professional explain it as well.

  • I've always been told to only have simple sugar right after an intense workout like lifting weights, can you verify/correct this in a video please.

  • Interesting!!! Thanks!

  • I miss Natalie.

  • Thank you, your videos are really helpful!

  • ohhhh apples, vry nice!

  • great video, usually i dont like to listen to old/fat people talk about nutrition but this girl actually taught me alot i didn't know. I appreciate the lecture.

  • haha you're fucking funny !

  • i am just being honest, are you a girl?

  • Dietary Fat releases bile.. which does -not- store Fat

  • Wow Radhia, your lectures here are very informative. Will definitely be watching this whole series again.

  • video is very beneficial

  • Good Video! You can really feel a difference just by swtching a few things such as white bread to whole grain breads, Reg pasta to whole grain pasta, And your cereals to multi grain/wheats. Well i know i feel a difference!

  • These three videos opened up a lot of understanding for me. Thank you!

  • Radia-will a bit of olive oil and Mrs. Dash/sea salt work with my movie popcorn?

  • Excellent! The analogies greatly aid in the visualization of bodily processes. Pearls and carts. I love it. Thanks so much!

  • well-argued.

  • Excellent vid. Your comments on the low fat diet foods reminds me of another subject. Calcium, where folks will buy all sorts of calcium enriched or known calcium sources, yet they don't consider the processing or type of calcium or the balance with other minerals.

  • Hey Radhia! When is your book coming out? I hope it includes this string of pearls in it as well. I hope you have it out before the Xmas holiday season comes because I'd send a copy to all my friends and family. You know you could print it on Lulu. .

  • This Carbo lessons are awesome..i think i need to watch them a few times to understand it..i appreciate your information :)

  • Bit more techie .But Im still learning things good.

  • Great video. While McDonalds is figuring out how to fool you into consuming even CHEAPER refined chemicals, it is good to have the ammunition to fight off the assaults on your instincts.

  • just dont consume too many, and get exercise

  • mmmmm................ carbohydrates and fats.

  • wow, i love these Advanced Nutrition Lectures!

  • is oatmeal refined? technically it is flaky. i really am trying to not sound ignorant here because i know oatmeal is the healthiest food u can consume. what cut of oatmeal is the healthiest? btw, i don't add any sugar or salt to my quick oats. but since it is flaky and instant, does that make oatmeal truly healthy or not?

  • Im curious two. I like Porridge using Scottish oats.

I beleive its a complex carb.I dont know if its "Bad" like white flour. I would think quick oats is ok but I buy "Proper oats" Ive been told 1Cup oats to two Water. I tend to use whole milk sultanas and vanilla essence.

  • Rolled oats are just that, whole oats rolled, no procesing. I have it every day with a tsp of honey, strawberries & 1/2 banana and a tablespoon of flax seed added after cooking. Cooked with water, but add a little milk to smooth it out in the bowl. A healthier alternatinve would be to use whole oats or steel cut oats (very good). Just takes longer to cook. I also have a GNC brand protein powder, 22 grams, with milk beforehand and a tbs of lemon flavored cod liver oil. Great start to a long day.

  • thanks! i'll try out ur concoction, im always open to try out new oatmeal recipes.

  • Comment removed

  • Your welcome. By the way, after reading my reply below, it sounds like I add cod liver oil to the protein drink, but I don't, I have it separately. The steel cut oats are whole grain oats that have been cut into smaller bits, like Bulgar wheat, which is also a great breakfast cereal, cooked just like the oat groats. In fact, I often mix the bulgar wheat and steel cut oats together, 50/50.

  • This is seriously the best weight loss vid on youtube! It's also important to learn about cortisol and how to burn fat with the right exercises. Vit and min supplements help a lot too.

  • Very good talk. Your way of explaining this has been really helpful in my understanding. I sort of had a vague idea before.but never really knew the full impact of consuming carbs, proteins and the bodies response to these.

  • this is very good info but i got a questions

How do we find out if our metabolism burning? Is there a test? IS there a hormone test to see if its burning like a raging fire or a candle?

  • First of all thank you ladies for posting useful information broad casted by intellectual people capable of comprehending and explaining it! Second I'm a "cumulative thinker". What I mean is your postings in my mind are connected to many subjects in my mind. This explanation of metabolism, nutrition and health I likened to the state of our economy and based on my review of this and other topics would like more political, and personally focused videos posted with your talents.

  • Your creative direct way of explaining this really helps me understand something that was always vague and ambiguous to me, I never understood this in high school or any other place but this is clear..thanks for investing the energy into doing this it was very helpful to me! I bet it will help others too..

  • Another helpful presentation. I look forward to the next ones.

  • Your Amazing! Thank you so much for taking the time to educate us. Encore!

  • Excellent videos!! I am diabetic (type 1) and understanding how carbs work is very important to me. Thanks for the info. Is there anyway to figure out a carb to insulin ratio for when I eat and then inject my insulin? Sometimes I am a little low or a little high but rarely in range. Why is it that MD's now nothing about nutrition? don't they teach this in med school?

  • natilie where r u?

  • Thanks for the information! Love your videos! Really makes me wanna pick up a healthier life-style (I'm actually dealing with an eating disorder and these videos have helped me so much! You have no idea! I'm thinking more and more about HEALTH rather than weight loss! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!).

  • God dang insulin keeping those cheap workers out!...

  • This is really informative material,

    Thanks I enjoyed.

  • Wow, great video

  • You're my favourite speaker in psychetruth! Thanks for the video, I learnt a lot. Your theory makes a lot of sense, and finally I understand all those terms I heard before. I'm happy to report that I eliminated all processed foods (high fructose corn syrup, enriched flour ect) from my diet since your last vid :)

  • You did it again PsycheTruth, this is a very helpful informative video.thank you!

  • Great video, as always! Thank you for posting. =)

    Much love,
