@jhwelchjr You know, I'm straight. But just speaking personally here, if I had to choose between eternal Hell with the great musicians like Elton John, Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, and others, or going to Heaven and having to listen to nothing but the damn Jonas Brothers or Justin Bieber or horrible Christian rock bands for all eternity, then I will be surfing on the lake of fire rocking out to good tunes. You guys up in Heaven can keep the Jonas Brothers.
@JivinJane I ought to learn to not drink and be on YT at the same time. The foolish comment you brought to my attention has been removed and I'd like to say that it's of course not for me to say what sort of relationship the great Elton John has with God, especially since the great performer has been so very, very generous and kind towards so many over the years that needed his help. The comment could have been the worst I've ever written and thus I thank you for not biting my head off over it.
Actually there's more to say because if you like this song like I do? And I think you do? Then you'll want to hear what I have to say ? Have you ever heard the 4 Disc Set appropriately named:"Elton John Dream Ticket, FOUR DESTINATIONS,FOUR DVDs" It features 3 live concerts which always BLOWS MY MIND APART! My point, listen to Disc3 "Ephesus The Great Amphitheatre" It's the ROCKSPEL According To Elton ! Then you can say;'Music at its finest ladies and Gentlemen.
S Spanish or Engkish Harlem. Sons of a bitch . Sons of bankers and sons lawers, born in US. Turn around and say good morning to the darrk. They don t know wether is outside dark or light, Merde . And I thank the Lord for the people I have Known in other countries.
Empty Sky, EJ, Tumbleweed, Madman, Honky, Piano, Yellow Brick Road.....all within 4 years.,....aside from the Beatles, no one, IMO, put out such consistent records over a similar time period. No one may ever will again.
I was 9 or 10 and bought the album. This song effected me the most. Decades later I discovered it again. And it still sounds brand new. Timeless, perfect.
"I'll grow my own, my own seeds shall be sown...in New York City."
to echo herman...an am radio in my car was all i had. back then we were arrogant enough to believe music like this would go on forever out of that little dashboard speaker....oh how i ache....so beautiful

Takes me straight to my back yard in the Hollywood Hills when I was in grade school and every square inch of my room was covered in Elton John posters.

Thanks so much for the video! I have always loved Elton. His music was as much a part of my life, much as any friend I had growing up. I thank him for all he has done to bless our country with his work. It trully makes me smile. His music calms the savage beast. I love you Elton thanks for all you have given me.
this song is AMAZING! i am a big fan of elton john and this is my favorite song of his. its incredible how his music just moves and lives on generation after generation! i was born in 1987. the fact that his music is still so popular today says enough!! truly an amazing artist whos music will live on forever.
Certainly am. Saw him on a Michael Parkinson show where he was presented with unseen lyrics, within less than 30 seconds he'd made a melody out of them that sounded very credible. I hesitate to call anyone a genius but if there is one around today, Elton MUST fit the bill!
im 13 and i would MUCH rather to listen to this kind of fantastic masterpiece music than katy perry or rihanna or justin bieber, etc. elton john's melodies and piano skills and voice are amazing, and bernie taupin's lyrics are so beautiful and interesting. I LOOOVE this so much thanks 60s and 70s for giving my generation great music to listen to to counter the pop/rap thats on the radio today :)
@clairebear524 im 15 and i totally agree with you i love pretty much all kinds of music except for the not so great stuff coming out for the past 6 years or so (i say 6 years because my favorite band broke up in 2005 and after that i pretty had not much interest in newer music after that, there was a couple of good artists in these dark times for music.
@TheToasterTV - Thanks for letting me know about your favorite band. One of my sons (maybe both?) used to listen to Blink 182. I don't think my sons listened much to Elton John, but they did like stuff from my generation as well as theirs. I always returned the favor and listened to their music, too.
And then came Elton...to add twist, sparkle, heart, theatre, rock, rhythm, blues, and a new level of dextrous pop versatility to the relationship. So he might make it look like a simple story.....But, really, it is a very complex one indeed.
As a Native New Yorker who lived through the rough and crime ridden days, the hey day s of being the night life capital of the world, and surviving the Sept. 11 attacks. This song is truly the most beautiful love song to my city that ever was.

ah! another soulful masterpiece from elton and bernie! now this is music! are you paying attention all you no talent ass rappers??????????????? no rap song ever made can move your very soul like this!! PEACE!
Some of the greatest songs of all time were never hits. Mona Lisas was never a hit. Sometimes you have to dig a bit deeper to find the gems. While Elton is one of the most famous rock artist of all time, many of his best songs, like this one, have never been heard by the masses. Of course it helps if a song is rediscovered when it is in a big movie.
@ls1959Cldnt agree w/u mor Unles U wer in a twn w/a DJ wth some knwldge & some balls 2 stray awy frm the rotation that the record excects, put 4th U wud have never knwn this song existed!2 this day it remains the same Whn U thnk of bands that have HUGE catalogs & these stations only play the same 3 or 4 songs all the time,ITS A SHAME!.In the last wk Ive herd the same sngs at the same times of day from Zep& Hendrix..Hell Hndrix made more music in 5yrs thn 2dys artist cud mke in a lifetime!!
@krazykat1965 Thanks Kat, still get lost in the music to this day...............I ended up selling all my Elton John albums when I went to college in 1975 (to pay for a night out) as soon as I started work I started replacing them....
now thanks to the wonders of youtube we can all share in the music:-))
I brought this album to school one day and had my teacher play this song in our Religion class. I can remember thinking then what a beautiful song it was, and what a statement it made about humanity--and I was only eleven at the time!
Elton hit his high points with this and "Yellow Brick Road." FWIT, I would give my left you-know-what to have produced either one of those. And, for the record, I have a pretty good you-know-what.

Elton & his LifeMate had a little boy through a surrogate on Christmas Day in 2010. The World has been blessed.
