As I listen to this song again I hear some very important words.' I thank the Lord there's people out there like you!

    Thank you Sir,

    JW

  • @jhwelchjr Yes, you are so right!

  • I need to apologize for my oversight of being judgemental.

    Thanks, for setting me straight!

  • One of my very favorites, among a 100 others by the man!!! Thanx for the great post my friend!!!

  • left out the words sorry and VOICE

  • I am very, very, that homosexuals can not enter the kingdom of heaven, his will be missed up there!

  • @jhwelchjr You know, I'm straight. But just speaking personally here, if I had to choose between eternal Hell with the great musicians like Elton John, Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, and others, or going to Heaven and having to listen to nothing but the damn Jonas Brothers or Justin Bieber or horrible Christian rock bands for all eternity, then I will be surfing on the lake of fire rocking out to good tunes. You guys up in Heaven can keep the Jonas Brothers.

  • @Ryan9145X ithought the jonas brothers were the next pink floyd lol

  • Just pure enjoyment....

  • Thank the Lord is right! How prolific R the lyrics and a great song!!chacka69 Bless all 4 2012

  • @guyNbluejeans , Well, please do tell us all about Your Lord... how can you say that??

  • @JivinJane I ought to learn to not drink and be on YT at the same time. The foolish comment you brought to my attention has been removed and I'd like to say that it's of course not for me to say what sort of relationship the great Elton John has with God, especially since the great performer has been so very, very generous and kind towards so many over the years that needed his help. The comment could have been the worst I've ever written and thus I thank you for not biting my head off over it.

  • im not very into elton john but i really like this song and rocket man

  • MrPow19,

Actually there's more to say because if you like this song like I do? And I think you do? Then you'll want to hear what I have to say ? Have you ever heard the 4 Disc Set appropriately named:"Elton John Dream Ticket, FOUR DESTINATIONS,FOUR DVDs" It features 3 live concerts which always BLOWS MY MIND APART! My point, listen to Disc3 "Ephesus The Great Amphitheatre" It's the ROCKSPEL According To Elton ! Then you can say;'Music at its finest ladies and Gentlemen.

    Enough Said,

    Adam

  • Music at its finest ladies and gentleman, enough said.

  • This was my 1st album ..My old Dad bought me this cool close and play deal..and this for X-mas...what a guy..

  • This is so beautiful. pure.

  • @SilverscreenRN

bravo silverscreen. pure is the best way i have ever heard to describe eltons johns early music.

  • S Spanish or Engkish Harlem. Sons of a bitch . Sons of bankers and sons lawers, born in US. Turn around and say good morning to the darrk. They don t know wether is outside dark or light, Merde . And I thank the Lord for the people I have Known in other countries.

  • This is a very special song,. Really, the melody is gorgeous and the lyrics are clever and poignant.

  • True music. This is what music is all about. This is beautiful <3

  • Reminds me of the movie "Almost Famous"

If you haven't seen it, you should!!!

  • KITTENS ARE THE EQUIVALENT OF ELTON JOHN......food for thought

  • 11 people have no taste.

  • all i know is im 27 and sir elton put on the best concert i have ever been too, even with his aging voice it was just amazing

  • This was the wedding song on the final episode of Brothers and Sisters.A rather strange choice for a wedding song!

  • The rose trees never qrows in New York City.

  • The rose tres never grows in N Y city. Grande Elton. Uníco.

  • god i miss music...where did it go?

  • Lady Goodman.

  • he sang at rush's wedding does that make rush a homophobe fuck all of u liberals idiots!!

  • this song came to me in 2001 living on 125thst and park what a prophetic song

  • This song brings me to tears. Every time.

  • oh that mandolin.

  • @TheLeastDiseased it's my favourite mandolin part ever recorded.

  • EJ is brilliant! Saw him at Dodger Stadium in 1975...unbeleivable!

  • Purely beautiful.

  • IM ON DRUGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Along with Tiny Dancer, this is Elton's greatest non-single from his glory period. Without a question.

  • @Ulysses61 Tiny Dancer charted as a single in the US.

  • Bernie Taupin!

  • 11 people know not if it's dark outside or light.

  • I was 9 or 10 and bought the album. This song effected me the most. Decades later I discovered it again. And it still sounds brand new. Timeless, perfect.

"I'll grow my own, my own seeds shall be sown...in New York City."

  • one of Elton's best....when he was with Berni Taupin they made magic

  • As insightful and flawless "piece" that Elton & Bernie ever did!!

  • Pretty!

  • Phenomental artist with a way to draw you in with his craft.

  • know these lyrics , sleepwalking ... but rose trees never grow

  • i guess there's a more beautiful song out there...i just haven't heard it yet..

  • arguably elton and bernies finest collaboration

  • Especially poignant at the 9-11 anniversary.

  • to echo herman...an am radio in my car was all i had. back then we were arrogant enough to believe music like this would go on forever out of that little dashboard speaker....oh how i ache....so beautiful

  • 10 people are mad at the Lord for the people they have found

  • @waddyprocess Funny!

  • such a good song, they don't write them like this anymore

  • this song's been in my head for a week or so, blessings...

  • Elton and Bernie`s BEST BALLAD

  • I thank the Lord for the people I have found!

  • Back when Elton was a great songwriter and performer.

  • It's funny, when I was a teenager, songs like this one ( quality wise) were on the radio constantly, we took them for granted. I just have standard radio , no satelite connection in my car, which means I listen to my ipod and audio books. Take me back.........

  • 0:00 << replay button

  • This man makes Mozart look like a amatuer, Thank god for his genius , thank you Sir Elton!!!

  • Life on Mars anyone?

  • @tango6pl Unfortunately that show was too good for the US. Too expensive and not enough profit for the network.

So much for art for art's sake. That show was art.

I'm surprised we got 17 episodes.

  • STILLWATER!

  • Thank the Lord ~

    Peace,

    V

  • Takes me straight to my back yard in the Hollywood Hills when I was in grade school and every square inch of my room was covered in Elton John posters.

My first concert: 1973 - The Forum, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road Tour. I was 10 years old and went with my mom and my big brother Daniel who was pushing 20.

    I'll NEVER, EVER forget it!

  • wow he sounds so young here

  • Took a lot of effort aned time to post with the lyrics. Thanks for bringing back the memories and joys of my youth!

  • One of Elton`s 5 best songs

  • plagio....listening claudio baglioni : amore bello!!!

  • beautiful. one of his best.

  • This is the only song I hear and have to choke back the tears everytime

  • How can 10 peope dislike this!!!!!!!??????!!!!!! THIS SONG IS AMAZING!!!!!! And all those people who disliked this, I would like to see you write a better song then this.

  • To me, this is the best song ever written

  • @Jamesesii u could be right but when i was growing up in peoria i didn't know personally how cruel new york city could be

  • Heart's version of this song is phenominal, but nobody compares to Elton.

  • ..always loved the line I THANK THE LORD THERE S PEOPLE OUT THERE LIKE YOU - -

Chk out Come Down In Time - by STING

  • Thanks so much for the video! I have always loved Elton. His music was as much a part of my life, much as any friend I had growing up. I thank him for all he has done to bless our country with his work. It trully makes me smile. His music calms the savage beast. I love you Elton thanks for all you have given me.

  • 9 kids have not a clue...

  • Awesome! Awesome! Awesome! I heard this on the radio for the first time in years today. He's is just the best. Modern day legend. Thanks for posting!

  • one of the greatest songs he has done.

  • " I thank the Lord there's people out there like You "

  • The most beautiful and meaningful song written for New York

  • 9 people cant see the sky

  • They not if it's dark outside or light.

  • "I thank the Lord for all the people I have found"...

I was a very young man when he sang this song, and I defended him all the way. I didn't and still don't care what "gay" is/was!

Okay, I'm not GAY, but some of my best friends...

are some of my BEST friends!

    I am a... walrus!

    Gooo!...

  • oh my god.. i can't stress enough how much i love elton john.

    what. a. legend.

  • this song is AMAZING! i am a big fan of elton john and this is my favorite song of his. its incredible how his music just moves and lives on generation after generation! i was born in 1987. the fact that his music is still so popular today says enough!! truly an amazing artist whos music will live on forever.

  • The best songwriter this country has EVER produced. Enough said.

  • @84cats Are you in England?

  • @rocketloopz

Certainly am. Saw him on a Michael Parkinson show where he was presented with unseen lyrics, within less than 30 seconds he'd made a melody out of them that sounded very credible. I hesitate to call anyone a genius but if there is one around today, Elton MUST fit the bill!

  • @84cats I agree

  • @84cats

Let's remember Bernie did the lyrics, though Elton did a phenomenal job on his end.

  • great!!!!!!

  • Think the mandolin on this is a big part of why I love it. So great!

Also, I think everywhere, not just NY, has Mona Lisas and mad hatters...

  • im 13 and i would MUCH rather to listen to this kind of fantastic masterpiece music than katy perry or rihanna or justin bieber, etc. elton john's melodies and piano skills and voice are amazing, and bernie taupin's lyrics are so beautiful and interesting. I LOOOVE this so much thanks 60s and 70s for giving my generation great music to listen to to counter the pop/rap thats on the radio today :)

  • @clairebear524 im 15 and i totally agree with you i love pretty much all kinds of music except for the not so great stuff coming out for the past 6 years or so (i say 6 years because my favorite band broke up in 2005 and after that i pretty had not much interest in newer music after that, there was a couple of good artists in these dark times for music.

  • @TheToasterTV - Who was your favorite band?

  • @violetjm ok, this is a whole different route, even though i love elton john and plenty of old stuff, my favorite band was, Blink-182.

  • @TheToasterTV - Thanks for letting me know about your favorite band. One of my sons (maybe both?) used to listen to Blink 182. I don't think my sons listened much to Elton John, but they did like stuff from my generation as well as theirs. I always returned the favor and listened to their music, too.

  • @clairebear524 I am the exact same way. I like some new rock, but not much mainstream.

  • One of Elton Johns best no doubt ... have always loved this song...Elton is surely one of THE BEST ARTISTS EVER!!

  • who in gods holy name would ever dislike this song! This is by far one of the best songs ever written!

BUT THEY CAN'T AND THAT IS WHY

THEY KNOW NOT IF IT'S DARK OUTSIDE OR LIGHT...."

    QUE GRAN CANCION

  • ALMOST FAMOUS

  • @bebergator Yeah, that's what I thought of, too. That movie has a great soundtrack, although this song doesn't appear on the official soundtrack.

  • @bebergator ELTON JOHN

  • @bebergator growing up :-) ahhh to be young again..

  • To me, this is the most beautiful piece of work ever done

  • Great song.

  • And they say lyrics are not poetry......this is......and ever more

  • @edibletalkingchairs It's a reference to "The Prophet's Song",right?

  • Freddie Mercury's sitting at home in 1972 listening to this thinking, "now I know...now I know...now I know! now I know!"

10 points to whoever gets the reference

(PS Don't even know if Mercury wrote the song, so don't get bitchy with me)

  • @edibletalkingchairs Prophet's Song, it was written by Brian May, but awesome Queen reference nonetheless

  • love the cover, looks like byron !!!! hahaha

  • Thank you Bernie Taupin!

  • Favorite scene from Almost Famous(even better then the Tiny Dancer scene)

  • @Colddeed I agree !!! My favorite scene from the movie.....the best part of the movie....!!!

  • As a Native New Yorker who lived through the rough and crime ridden days, the hey day s of being the night life capital of the world, and surviving the Sept. 11 attacks. This song is truly the most beautiful love song to my city that ever was.

  • Congrats on the new baby boy Elton!!

  • best elton john song

  • IMHO the Honky Chateau album was Elton at his peak. If you sift through his early stuff amongst the mass there are real gems, Honky Chateau just came along and every song is a masterpiece. Pure and utter class but lost to history. One of my top 5 albums of all time. Enjoy and thanks Reg.

  • @RHP9898 like athletes, artists also have their peaks. elton was on a big one when he wrote this. the music has alot of depth and soul.

  • ah! another soulful masterpiece from elton and bernie! now this is music! are you paying attention all you no talent ass rappers??????????????? no rap song ever made can move your very soul like this!! PEACE!

  • Beautiful chanson .Merci, gracias Monsieur, Señor Elton John.

  • He must have know Lady Gaga was coming. She's the mad hatter 4 sure!

  • Alex, my New York brother, I miss you so much. May you make your art in Heaven.

  • Some of the greatest songs of all time were never hits. Mona Lisas was never a hit. Sometimes you have to dig a bit deeper to find the gems. While Elton is one of the most famous rock artist of all time, many of his best songs, like this one, have never been heard by the masses. Of course it helps if a song is rediscovered when it is in a big movie.

  • @ls1959Cldnt agree w/u mor Unles U wer in a twn w/a DJ wth some knwldge & some balls 2 stray awy frm the rotation that the record excects, put 4th U wud have never knwn this song existed!2 this day it remains the same Whn U thnk of bands that have HUGE catalogs & these stations only play the same 3 or 4 songs all the time,ITS A SHAME!.In the last wk Ive herd the same sngs at the same times of day from Zep& Hendrix..Hell Hndrix made more music in 5yrs thn 2dys artist cud mke in a lifetime!!

  • UUUHM i just had a very sad thought! what if Elton dies and has no children!? this would be a great loss to the world.

  • @THESOULbornold

Elton & his LifeMate had a little boy through a surrogate on Christmas Day in 2010. The World has been blessed.

  • fking GENIUS

  • @krazykat1965 Thanks Kat, still get lost in the music to this day...............I ended up selling all my Elton John albums when I went to college in 1975 (to pay for a night out) as soon as I started work I started replacing them....

now thanks to the wonders of youtube we can all share in the music:-))

  • I brought this album to school one day and had my teacher play this song in our Religion class. I can remember thinking then what a beautiful song it was, and what a statement it made about humanity--and I was only eleven at the time!

  • Elton hit his high points with this and "Yellow Brick Road." FWIT, I would give my left you-know-what to have produced either one of those. And, for the record, I have a pretty good you-know-what.
