nice. i can tell your really accomplished at keeping with the beat. as a fellow bass player i can say that keeping the beat and rhythm is essential to playing the bass. keep it up
ok i dont know what it is but i see people do it alot. its alomst like a vibrato between frets, like what is that? and can anyone give me some tips on how to do em correctly?
A vibrato between frets is exactly what it is. It's like a vibrato along the length of the string, except you do not keep your fretting finger rooted in the same place while the rest of your hand rotates, but move the whole hand formation up and down. It can be a bit random when you first try it; you need to aim to control it so you only move one or two frets back and forth. Imagine masturbating an elephant's cock with your left hand. Or maybe not.
I read a guitar player describe that the same way one time... Leslie someone... or someone Leslie... either way, it was more about just masturbating in general
The bass is a Yamaha TRB6MKII which is being played by a good bass guitarist with good technical capability and experience. I should know I own and play one too it is now discontinued and replaced by the TRB1006 which is a shorter neck, and pickups not as good

Yeah man they all sound alike and you can tell the type of person just by music. The aspect of a person really bleeds through anything they do. All your grooves sound alike w/ "I'm too sexy" drum backgrounds. if thats what your into cool. Good tone but i mean whats the point of 5-6 basses when the skills seem non diverse? Victor wooten 4 string and he still doesn't have a 6. Teaches us all to get creative with our instruments.

You Are A punk - Why don't you put something up there that every-one can learn much from it. And by the way nobody give away free intricate lessons. Duh!
If these seem intricate to you then hey by all means learn. As far as the diversity in his playing and videos there is real no contrast. He understands the basics of the genres hes simulating but claiming them to be true when not in their entirety. MarloweDK i dig the vids and how people learn but man from bass player to player you know where you stand. I am no god and neither are the rest of you on the nets. Lets all be constructive with our criticism not the later. ROCK N ROLL!!!!!!!!
I think you ought to note that the title of this series is "Bass Groove School". In each of these videos Marlowe is clearly showing a "groovy" sort of funk technique- so obviously they would all have the same sort of feel to them!
@MarloweDK i know this isn't a rip of believe me i can play sir sycho sexy but you not realizing that that is a red hot chili pepper song hopefully you know about them and have heard flea(an amazing bassist) but if not you should really go listen him
KEEP IT UP! You are making the bass world a better place to live in. These tasty grooves are da bomb. What you put in- what you leave out is just perfect. Are you as accomplished as a percussionist? Just curious...
yo marlowedk - I'm learning a lot of your riffs (stealing basically hehe) I've also found your scale exercises really useful. great melodic way to practice modes/scales.
Where do you 'steal' from? do you have any basslines/riffs/songs which you've found particularly inspirational or useful? or is most of your stuff original that you've worked on over the years?
that bass sure sounds nice on its own. But how would it sound in a mix ...that's mystery ! I'm thinking of Jamerson's bass tone, dull and chocked when you hear it on its own, yet so amazingly perfect in the mix. Very true what Playdrums says here: you are in the pocket and your fills are too !! I hate it when I hear blah blah just play in the pocket and serve the song. Jamerson was serving the songs in a way no one bettered and he was in the pocket and wailing around it at the same time !
You must get asked this all the time on here, but are you currently in a band? Man, I'd do anything to get to jam on the drums with you. Bassists who can play within the "pocket", yet still let their ideas flow without sounding sloppy are few and far between. Really enjoy your videos.
the riff reminds me of the old game on the Sega Megadrive (i think) called Toe, Jam and Earle
