  • So the British fanatics do battle with the civilised home guys (in Sudan, not in Essex) ....As everybody tells asians in the streets nowadays: If you don't like it here, you can go home to wewre you came from - But that's the porblem isnt it, Sirs Empire builders. YOU didn't want do go home then, why should they now. ;)

  • @MrRotstift We don't want all of them to go home, just the fanatics who want to impose their medieval laws on normal people. Of course there are 'extremists' on both sides and the general public usually pay no attention to them whatsoever because they are far too few in number to make a difference. Despite this they manage to besmirch the name of their religion and direct increasing levels of hatred towards themselves. They're thier own worst enemies

  • @MrRotstift I don't think you want to compare immigration to conquest, unless you really do want to establish some moral equivalency and thus justify action equivalent to war time reprisal.

  • @ProLepanto No, actually you are very right there, sorry to have given the impression. But, you see, in Britain as much as anywhere in Europe people would genuinly feel that way, because they feel like the Murdoch (oder Springer) papers tell them to. Thats the rot.

  • @MrRotstift Well be careful, because I am one of those who believes in cultural homogeneity, and I do so because of adherence to an ethical standard not predicated on, nor even influenced by, popular sentiment; not because of any media.

That all aside, the prevailing difference would be that the British entered those regions with every expectation of instigating response from the natives, where as now immigrants have the audacity to believe Europeans shouldn't even suffer offense.

  • @ProLepanto Can you tell me in what way immigrants have - offended - you? Did any of them come to your house / place with the intention of burning it down/ taking away your house or your estate? Some difference here with the 'intentions' of those Essex boys in Sudan, half of them were the scum of London, stealing and boozing dirt, which is how they behaved in the world, those heroic empire builders.

Cultural homogeneity - on this planet? And you know what's good for all. Are you god?

  • @MrRotstift No need to be splenetic, I have faith in my own perception, just as you do. Trying to undercut a discernible notion of 'correct' by championing acceptance, is itself a judgment and subject to the very same critique: "you know what's good for all?"

Now just because migrant peoples in contemporary times tend to mold regions through demographic dominance, it does not make the imposition of their preferences anymore introverted or any less intruding -in end result- than military action.

  • @ProLepanto In the great movie picture of life then, are you made out to be QT's 'Gimp' in the 1994 classic film, Pulp Fiction. Someone constantly on their knees, who must bend over backwards, to please all

  • @cosmictimes Seeing as you are proponent of ahistorical degradations of 9/11, I should probably rephrase and 'speak slowly' for you. I am for the dominance of morality, that is to say a singular ethos; there can be only one objective 'correct'. This means that I am for the application of force to propagate said ethical standard. I'm for the destruction or dissolution of all other cultural inferiorities in the service of their adherents. Now, kindly fuck off Paulite and take your hubris with you.

  • dude this is ZULU MUSIC

  • @sgdhskjvcdjkfsdffwe It think Zulu music is African music. this is no Africvan music. Funny - Thats just like the Americans who think they know about Northern German cuisine because they eat Hamburgers ;)

  • @MrRotstift That's funny Americans learned about the cuisine of Northern Germany while we were over there KICKING YOUR ASS IN in WWII.

  • @TDEROSA72 no you didnt because Northern Germany was occupied by the British. And actually the analogy wasnt about Northern Germany and do I have to explain that to you little illiterate? Don't say anything if you know NOTHING. Typical American.

  • They don't like it up 'em

  • Did you kno this music is from Zulu? Oops...did I say that?

  • Those Imperialists really went on the warpath just as soon as they had the technology, didn't they? And ended up doing it all to themselves in WW1. Kinda funny really.

  • @mookins45 One man's warpath is another man's expanded grey matter material.

    HONK if you're BRITISH!

  • @cosmictimes Oh yeah, so much intelligence that you nearly wiped out your civilization by 1918.

  • @mookins45 No HONKS!?!?? NO BRITISH??

    HARD CHEESE.

  • @cosmictimes No, you're right, I gotta represent for my Snooks and Pierce great-grandsomethings who came over from England so here... honk...honk... now riddle me this, englischen: was it a hybrid system caught between the conflicting impulses of Power and Human Respect, like a pushme-pullyou? And Germany chose Power, to its disgrace and destruction, and England chose Respect, in its finest hour?

  • @mookins45 It's down to the hand of fate. If you want to blame anyone blame it.

  • @cosmictimes Yes.

  • "They dont like it up em !!"

  • And what that particular jihad led to was Omdurman.

  • Makes ya proud to be British!

  • Oh for the Good old Days when this country was both Run and fought for by men who's only goal was to serve and not line their own pocket's,lets hope we can regain this ethos once more,so get the uk uk out of the eu take back all the power we surrendered kick out all the Muslims and niggers and assorted parasites.

  • superb!

  • I certainly hope those Sudanese rag-heads learned their lesson. Arabs totally suck. Islam totally sucks.

  • ryan was playing away then

  • Was Ryan Giggs playin' then?

  • 'Fanatical Sudanese'? So poorly armed goat-herders defending their homeland against the mightiest empire in history are 'fanatics'. A bit like the 'terrorists' who risk their lives in the defence of Afganistan against Yank-serving British squaddies.

  • @PNETriffid Bastard!

  • @UberFatManSam Long Live Britannia!

  • @UberFatManSam LONG LIVE BRITANNIA AND GLORY TO THE EMPIRE!

  • @UberFatManSam

I´m more of a patriot than you will ever be, so crawl back to your masters in Washington. Long live Britain; freedom from America.

  • @PNETriffid Its glaringly obvious that you know nothing of this conflict. This was not a war of "oppression" by Britain, in fact, that was done by Egypt, who dragged in the reluctant British to evacuate Khartoum. Gladstone did not want to get involved at all in Sudan. Read into it more before making ridiculous comments

  • @TalonMercenary

It is glaringly obvious that you didn't read my post, as I never mentioned the word 'oppression'. I don't know, imagine the Egyptians involving themselves in North African politics, whilst the peace-loving British kept their heads down and minded their own business. Strange how Britain ended up occupying both Egypt and Sudan for several decades, not that that is oppressive in your book. Not that you've ever read a book.

  • @PNETriffid Ohhhhhh getting all defensive are we? Khartoum was an Egyptian operation with the British being dragged in. Accept it

  • @TalonMercenary The British empire, probably the most powerful political entity in History, did not get 'dragged into' anything. Please admit that Egypt and Sudan were both conquered by UK. Furthermore that we had absolutely no right to be so heavily involved in the politics of a region 3,000 miles from home in the first place. You accused me of not understanding History, yet you don't actually address any of my points. That is offensive, hence my defensive attitude.

  • yeah sure kicked there ass lol

  • @englishman2000

If you're English please write in British English. The word in our language is 'arse'. Or are you are a US catamite and traitor? Oh yes and it's 'their' 'arse'.

  • fucking British oppressing the Sudanese

  • @GIJose84 If you bother to actually read into this era, you'd know that the British were reluctant to get involved in Sudan. It was Egypt who forced us to to send soldiers to help with THEIR affairs down there. Nearly all of the Khartoum garrison was Egyptian. This video shows British soldiers on their way to help evacuate the city, not oppress them. Idiot

  • The Martini-Henri had an effective range of 400 yards and a maximum range of nearly 2000 yards. One would think the British would have commenced firing somewhere between those figures, eh what?

  • Анонимус Анонимусов

You're a pore benighted 'eathen but a first-class fightin' man

  • The officers salute each other by holding their swords vertically before their faces just before leading the cavalry charge, does anyone know the meaning and tradition behind this?

  • Where was this battle....London?

  • @menacingshadows LOL man.. might as well have been...

  • zulu theme goes great with the video

  • The Union Jack has so much symbolism and power, we'll at our best when we're backed into a corner!

  • Yep, trashy American film depicting the British LOSE a battle we WON in real life. Bloody TYPICAL

  • @TalonMercenary Yes we were in grave danger as the nasty Sudanese invaded the UK on their galloping camels.

  • @TalonMercenary It was an indian director.. who hates the British but loves the book so he made them lose the battle

  • Why are they flying the British flag upside down?

  • imagine only 30 years later the war doctrine completly changed.

  • Eisenhower regretted turning on the British-French-Israeli Alliance during the Suez Crisis. The estimation would be that the US would win anticolonial points for standing up to traditional empires (two fmr. empires) in the much-needed Mideast during the opening years of the Cold War but Nasser turned it on us and made us the villains (as always). If only Ike had supported Eden and the other Brits in reestablishing the Empire, we could've split the work as Global Cop & given them the dirty work.

  • The Battle of Abu Klea was just like this. Except we won.

  • Y U NO USE CANISTER SHOT?! D:<

  • Ahhh yes.. the famed "Fighting Box" formation.

  • @Dutychief Also known as "The Infantry Square.

  • Give them hell lads!!!

  • Great song! I love Zulu! But this song could work for any British War/battle. (My opinion.)

  • FEATHERS

  • Bloody Mahdists, Kitchener certainly showed them whatfor

  • what movie is this from?

  • @NoNoseProduction Read the notes below the clip !

  • @rjun67 You do know the music's from Zulu don't you? :-)

  • @rjun67 Excuse my ignorance but the Rectangular defence formation taken up by the British in this Video showing them firing on the enemy simultaneously from all four sides - does it have a military term, I have seen it displayed on several of the military tattoo Videos but never come across a term for it, anyway it is so simplistic which is was makes it so brilliant and damn right destructive. Thank You. Sorry or maybe someone else could answer.

  • @bangkapi10240 Forming square or the Infantry square, if you want to see a great version in a film type in Battle of Waterloo: French Cavalry Charge.

  • @bangkapi10240

    Its called a square formation....

And its not for destructive purposes but a form of defence against calvary charges where a line formation would have had its flanks and rear exposed. I would not suggest it against an enemy that has cannons nor an advancing line of infantry.

  • @NoNoseProduction its from the 4 feathers staring heath ledger u kan c it on video google

  • @NoNoseProduction read the description wow

  • @xxDrGrinchxx clearly I saw like 5 people asking the same question. So I asked just to continue the pain. wow.

  • Zulu Dawn music, not Zulu lol. Nice upload

  • Superb soundtrack to accompany the video :)

  • takin the song from zulu ey

  • Casualties: The British casualties were 5 officers and 24 non-commissioned ranks killed and 17 officers and 142 non-commissioned ranks wounded. The Mahdists suffered around 2,500 killed and an unknown number wounded.

  • What film is this taken from please?

  • @runlarryrun77 THE FOUR FEATHERS

  • @rjun67 Thank you :D

  • @rjun67 Thx

  • Too many biased armchair "experts" tune into this sort of stuff, all with their silly ill-informed tripe to spout. Its rather depressing really.

  • @robcmoseley Haha, go on then, you do better then.

  • Erm..............does anyone know this video clip is about the Mahdists Wars (1883-98)...so please all fuck off and have your 1812 war conversation somewhere else!!

  • @rjun67 What's the name of it!, no-one seems to know. If you do, please let Me know so's I can try getting a DVD copy.

  • @gyrofoam1 It is a remake of 'The Four Feathers'. I knew that. Seen it a few times on BBC2.

  • @ThePalaeontologist Oh, that's a shame. I saw that movie and found it disappointing. I saw it the one time and don't remember seeing this bit. I saw some of the original, on YT maybe. I think, maybe Robert Powell was the main character.

  • @gyrofoam1 No sir!, that Four Feathers with Robert Powell was a tv movie from 1977, this version is from the late 90s and starred Heath Ledger.

  • @rjun67 Yes, I Know that F.F. with Robert Powell was an older movie!! - read my comment. I saw This version in it's entirety but didn't like it.

  • @gyrofoam1 The best version of the Four Feathers film the 1939 version of the same name and the 1955 Storm over the Nile.

  • @terrortorn O/k, that's the one I saw - didn't know there were more than two (a TV one was mentioned) and besides, I thought the other one I'd seen was older than 1977.

  • @gyrofoam1 THE FOUR FEATHERS

  • Why are you arguing with a sub civilian (USMarineRifleman0311)? He has no idea what he's talking about. Pure waste of time and effort man.

  • @clearlogicify I agree to that...his arcade game vision of 18th Century and 19th Century battlefields is rather unfortunate...Britain lost a fair bit, but generally won more. The fact is, even the most basic truths this USMarineRifleman0311 can never accept.

  • @ThePalaeontologist

I did a run on British and French battles, and totaled up you lost 64 times to their 60. And on top of everyting you had allies.

During the War of 1812, 3/4 of naval engagements were british defeats. As well as the last 3 land and sea battles of the war.

USA may have lost in Vietnam, but you lost twice to us, twice to the dutch, once to the boers and turks and then the Germans kicked you around during both world wars

  • @USMarineRifleman0311 OUTRAGEOUS. Right, you are fucking insane. 1. Well done, the USA did fail in Vietnam. 2. The British lost the AWofI to the combined American Continental/Militia, French, Spanish and Dutch forces. Face it. Without EUROPEAN allies, the Washington would have failed. In fact, he knew this, and this is why he pressed for the French aid in particular. 3. War of 1812 was a STALEMATE DRAW. US wanted Canada it failed. Britain wanted land, it failed. 4.First Boer 'War' was mainly...

  • @USMarineRifleman0311 ...an English settler Rebellion and shambolic 'British' insurgency. The Boers won. The Second (or 'Great') Boer War, resulted in the British government being moved into serious action by the plight of first conflict. There are some woeful stories of idiot British generals, and brave but badly misled infantry. Many battles were either lost or won at terrible cost. But the war was won. 5.Crimean War was won by the British and French. 6.WWI FU yank you have no right. WW2 same.

  • @ThePalaeontologist ...and by no right, I mean as for WWI, the US only barely voted to go to war and only sent men to France in 1917. These would not be trained and 'fit for battle' until 1918. Upon their debut, even the crack US soldiers of the US Marines at Bellau Wood, were slaughtered in droves by veteran German units from the Eastern front. British and French forces had been fighting for YEARS before yanks came in. The mocked these US rookies. Even as a latecomer, US had 50,000 casualties.

  • @ThePalaeontologist Britain lost around 950,000 British and Empire units. It was a savage European war, far less meaningful than WWII. Americas limited interest and involvement says to me it deserves scant claim on it. It was a British and French victory. It would have been without the US forces showing up late, which only scared the German politicians into premmature surrender (Hitler was angry about this, no shit) As for WW2 Britain was not ready for it, but still did well. ''Finest Hour'' etc

  • @ThePalaeontologist 50,00 - That's almost the entire Vietnam casualty figure (12 years?) and the number of Brits being killed in a week of trench warfare during WW1. BTW, the French were total wankers during the Crimean war if Wm Russel's correspondences are reliable.

  • @gyrofoam1 Obviously the British casualty figures could not have been 50,000 per week...that was the average deaths of all sides per week combined - some days the killing was extreme on days of offensives etc and other times it was low and routine trench defence and maintenance related. Accounts tell of the tedium as well as the terror, though the latter is always more famous. About 950,000 British and Empire units perished in WWI. Oh nyeah, the French were and always will be lol Look at Dunkirk

  • @ThePalaeontologist That's right. I got my figure from "Blackadder Goes Forth" and Edmund actually says, before illegally shooting a carrier-pigeon for dinner, "with fifty thousand Men being killed every week........"

  • @gyrofoam1 Uncanny....I was actually going to suggest this. I thought that this may offend/patronise you though or something. I love Blackadder (all series) That last series was great. Many moving quotes - like Blackadders last line in reference to his and Baldricks plans to avoid certain death. Here is the scene. I tried to remember it word for word, but I think its best to just watch the clip. I always do say WWII had a point whereas WWI was butchery.

  • @ThePalaeontologist /watch?v=IglUmgYGxLM

  • @ThePalaeontologist Yeah, it was a very moving scene that concluded a real funny series. Especially the Going Over The Top - you don't get a shot of them actually getting killed, just the blast of smoke then freeze-frame, then it dissolves into peaceful blossoming fields - nourished by the dead. It's easy to forget the Great War - WWII and A.Hitler are more tangible, and easier for people's minds to grasp. One man wanted to conquer Europe, he was a nutter, never again, etc.

  • @ThePalaeontologist Isn't this movie a BOLLYWOOD production?

  • War of 1812. DC burnt, Americans forced into a disadvantageous treaty. Americans 1 - British 1. The game is afoot.

  • @blandman46

The Chesappeak campaign of the 1812 war included 3 British defeats for every victory.

Bladensburg being the only real accomplishment.

This was followed by 2 major british failures at Baltimore and New Orleans.

The treaty of Ghent was only ratified AFTER the US victory at New Orleans.

    US 2 UK 0

  • @USMarineRifleman0311 haha pathetic |:') It was more like 1-1 (the 1812 War) Fair enough, the stalemate led to the advance of the US status as a world nation, but Britain really was busy elsewhere; Napoleonic Wars. Which the US did not take part in. Fuck you.

  • @USMarineRifleman0311 If the full might of the USA was SO powerful, in fighting a token British force, then why does the USA not own Canada as another state or two? Only because Britain held it. Some disastrous defeats for the US combined as bad as New Orleans. Fuck yes. Most of the British army was embroiled in the Napoleon wars. We barely even gave a shit in 1812.

  • @ThePalaeontologist *napoleonic

  • @ThePalaeontologist

New Orleans didnt happen in 1812...it happened in 1815 AFTER the wars with Boney were over. Seasoned troops came over and got their asses kicked

  • @USMarineRifleman0311 Oh really. Well I did not contest this, and knew the date. But you need to look up the Battle of Waterloo. That was 1815 my friend ;)

  • Would have, should have, could have, Doesn't mean a thing, all that matters is the outcome. Americans 1 British 0

  • @fryxcd7v Vietnam

  • Britain won this battle fair and square. In the film, which is good but painfully anti-British, the British lose...this video cuts scenes to show British victory, but in the film the unit is annihilated at great cost to the Sudanese. Even so, yet again for the sake of appeasing a large proportion of the yank audiences no doubt (as in the more grievous bullshit powerhouse films like The Patriot) the British are shown to fail. Fuck that.

  • @ThePalaeontologist In reality, the British actually won at El Teb (the second battle. They lost the first Battle of El Teb). Britain needs to stand up for herself and make some films from this period that portray them as the good guys and/or them winning (like Zulu). Personally, I would like to see Pirates of the Caribbean (which, again, is anti-British) end with a fifth film where Sparrow gets caught (the film got out of hand when the tiny pirate fleet defeated the uber-fleet of the British).

  • @ThePalaeontologist I'm one of those Yanks you decry and I hated the Patriot for exactly the reasons you describe. The British in America weren't the Sonderkommando, burning people alive in churches. That was just bullshit jingoism. And I would prefer the movie to tell the real truth, not some sanitized Hollywood version.

  • @MisterNizz Perhaps you would like to know that the Rebels burnt the church down. To spite Col Banastre Tarleton (''Tavington'') and his Green Dragoons who had performed a successful action the previous day. A group of frustrated rebels chasing them burnt the church down to incriminate the British under Tarleton, who had actually just stopped there for pause and moved on. The myth of the evil Tarleton only grew, mission accomplished. Ironic.

  • @ThePalaeontologist

    so Waxhaws never happened?

  • @USMarineRifleman0311 1. Waxhaws was a British Victory. 2. Waxhaws was sensationalised immediately after it had occured - Tarleton was dehorsed several times during the battle, and his loyal Green Dragoons each time fought ever more fiercely to help him. The last time he seemed to have been killed, and this apparently caused the Dragoons nearest to him to go beserk. He never issued orders to 'ride into' the surrendering enemy. By the time he was back on his feet his men had fought on to win.
