Reference speakers usually don't have a strong bass response because the have a flat response. You need a subwoofer for the lower end. Reference speakers are for mixing and have a flat EQ.
DO NOT BUY THESE SPEAKERS!!!!!! they are good. very good in fact for the price, however, i guarantee that they will break, i bought mine a year ago and would swear by them, well mine broke, i woke up one morning and they wouldn't turn on. i got them replaced, i woke up today, and the same problem, they wouldn't turn on. adding insult to injury they are 2 days outside their warranty. they sound great, they look great and the price is right, but be careful, they are fucking unreliable.
The sound quality of the Behringer MS40 is MUCH better than the one of those 2.1-Systems with no mids. And keep in mind, that these speakers are designed to listen to, when you're sitting at your table. And for that they're really loud enough.
I was looking for some monitors in this price range a few weeks back and I eventually settled on the Edirol MA-15Ds
They're a little smaller than the Behringer MS40s but they'll go very loud with no distortion. Won't be your cup of tea if you want them for bass though. That said the bass response is very good for their size and they do have a sub-woofer output (which I won't be using)
hi reinoh, i'm here again so ihave my speakers like this model too, so I'm kinda confused about installing, can you teach me with a short vieo how do u have your cables installed, please, I'm new about these, thank you.
Yeah, lloking at those monitors they are way too close to the deckas and the bass will just go through the table and be picked up by the needles on the deckas. I had this years ago when I was using Technics SL1200's. As soon as I moved them off the table the problem was solved. Maybe get a pair of speaker stands or at least try the foam thing.
To Reinohh: pick up some aurlex monitor isolation pads from guitar center. that should take some of the muddy'ness' out of the speakers from sitting on your desk. they've gotta be around 35 bucks. thats it, makes a world of a difference.
I think i gonna buy these, going 4.1. Already have ESI nEAR 05 (really good) they are going front and then I will put these on the back and then will buy sub also.
These can be rubbish on the main speakers but I think they are just fine on the back. :)
I agree with the other posts - the MS40 are good, considering price. Of course they are not as good as speakers that cost much more. I'm doing a bit of audio and video editing (small home studio) and they are good for that. They also make nice multimedia speakers for music and movies, IMO. The guy reports wind blowing out of the knobs and making a noise - mine don't do that? Also the setup on top of that little shelve and the bass knob turned all the way down is a bit strange, if you ask me.
You have a point there like everyone else.. I turned the bass to fullest so you guys could hear the air pushing trough put its a video about speakers heh :D
If you test speakers, you should not try to make them look as bad as possibe. In the end of your review you say that MS40's are worth the money (and I agree). This was a surprise to me, because in your review you hardly say a positive word about them. Of course you can always point at pro speakers that cost a lot more and say "MS40 sound rubbish". But that's not a fear review of the product.
I got these for excactly $100 usd for my little home protools le studio with mbox2. They work well enough for mixing. I wish they didn't have the bass and treble knobs which is a little odd for studio monitors. Most the stuff i do is standard rock tones so there's not much super low frequency stuff. I like mixing on lower end speakers anyways as most people listen on crappy speakers. So yeah these are good for the price.
I had a similar problem with my behringer monitors, their low end monitors are quite rubbishy, they sound ok but they break easily and have a lot of design flaws, they don't really get good until you get to the 'truth' series where the monitors are matched pairs without the poorly sealed dials.
Heh Behringer quality. Your english is not as bad as you think. Maybe you should use some tape on the parts where it leaks or something else. :P Good video.
The problem is probably the shakeyness of the desk from the speakers. Use books or isolation pads.

hey rzar7k wassup man?
from cables you will need a phono to phono cable to go from the left to the right speaker(included in box with speakers)
to connect them with an iPod or a pc you'll need a cable from a line to 2 phonos (red and white).
i hope you understand what i'm talking about cause my english are not so good :)

discothief 2 years ago
Seriously, try and cover the holes by using Blue Tack to hang a tissue over the area that is leaking. Works on Yamaha NS10 Monitors and may help.
Also try to place the monitors on some foam so that they don't send feedback to the decks which will lead to a low humming sound and drive you crazy.
Let me know how you get on.
Mark.
