I got the holy trinity of first recorded rap: 1. King Tim III - Fatback/ 2.Rapper's Delight- Sugarhill Gang/ 3. Christmas Rappin' (AKA Rappin Blow)- Kurtis Blow. In that order.
This is the first recorded rap song. Rappers Delight appeared on wax after this was out in 1979. For hiphop heads this was the real deal, rappers delight was a bunch of people using other peoples lyrics, not actual emcees. Casanova Fly a.k.a Grandmaster Caz was the original author of most of the song and he didn't even get credit. Ask Hank he knows who wrote that song!
Due honestly I thought that Sugar Hill brought the Rap into the music industry. My cousin told me that he was the 1st rapper to bring his spit to rap... If I'm wrong just let me know cos I'm old skool..Love to go back in time and listen to my oldies; even rappers..
First Rap ever recorded PERIOD. Sugarhill Gang's Rapper's Delight was the second and reached the unheard of heights of # 36 on the charts at that time
@xFunkyGuyx189 no thats no trolling, but its hard to understand because i refer to german hiphop, everybody wants to be more gangster and more pornographic than the other one.
Its good to hear real instruments with a beat you can dance to ;D
No disrespect, but this beat sounds like disco/funk...The guy is rapping I guess, but the beat is not hip hop or rap to me. I think Rapper's Delight is way more rap than this.
@gsbrown3510 NOPE...I understand your piont 2 a degree but JB's "Doin'it to Death",Bootsy's "Bootzilla",and just about anything Parliament did and also Nwe Birth"s Got to get a Knut" but yes this was like the one that lift Rap to the hype and also Rapper's Delight-sugarhill Gang were the two songs but u know 4 argument(debates)these two songs will always be a debatable topic for real music trivia or lovers
FATBACK BAND king Tim (1979) - Spring rec. --------------- Caspers Groovy Ghost show (1980) - AVI rec. Groovy ghost show is not from 78 like old dude said and i would not even consider it in the first 100 rap songs ever considering all the other stuff popping off 78'-79'

Damn, I can't imagine a time when Hip-Hop didn't exist. How was that possible?? lol. Soo weird how a lot of genres are fairly new.
