The fish the wider society eat are caught using deep sea trawling. I've seen 3 tonne of a 4 tonne net load get thrown over the side as bycatch....dead....crushed. Cruel? The fish I eat is selected and shot. I catch only what I eat. Spearfishing is a sport but we do eat what we catch. Thanks.

im usually not one to call fake but if the fish was towing him around for 2.5 hours where is his scuba gear? dont tell me he held his breath for 2 hours or that the fish let him surface to catch a breath from his snorkel... the fish was kinda slow too on that kill shot. a marlin would fight til it was dead, which you wouldnt need a 2nd spear to finish it.

Spearfishing is a deadly,extreme sport, the fish have all the advantages. a wild animal in its own habitat is much more dangerous than a well equipped human. I'm just an intermediate diver and have had my life on the line several times. I have been chased by 300lb sealions, been threatened by sharks and have almost been crush against reefs. Still love it. give it a try.

only if sharks are known to be in the area. my buddy and I went spearfishing for Kelp Greenling and he was circled by dogfish. on more than one occasion. still in the shark family but still intimidating as all hell. and if you dont hit their spine they barely bleed. headshots are key. unfortunately you never see headshots on big game or pelagic fish.

im usually not one to call fake but if the fish was towing him around for 2.5 hours where is his scuba gear? dont tell me he held his breath for 2 hours or that the fish let him surface to catch a breath from his snorkel... the fish was kinda slow too on that kill shot. a marlin would fight til it was dead, which you wouldnt need a 2nd spear to finish it.

I'm just an intermediate diver and have had my life on the line several times. I have been chased by 300lb sealions, been threatened by sharks and have almost been crush against reefs. Spearfishing is the most amazing sport, and it is the most selective and ecologic of all the fishing tecniques, we dont drag miles and miles of nets, We shoot what we can eat, as simple as that, we are trying to find a place in the food chain, and enjoy the whole experience.
If some people dont like it, fine by me,but to condemn something you need to know about it. Do it at least once, it's not as easy as it looks, you'll probably end the day eating algae.

only if sharks are known to be in the area. my buddy and I went spearfishing for Kelp Greenling and he was circled by dogfish. on more than one occasion. still in the shark family but still intimidating as all hell. and if you dont hit their spine they barely bleed. headshots are key. unfortunately you never see headshots on big game or pelagic fish.

many predators use the element of surprise and their prey has no idea they are there until it's too late...examples...pit vipers, most birds of prey, pike, largemouth bass, most forms of cats, snapping turtles etc. i have a great respect for animals and have many aquariums and terrariums in my room along with my 2 dogs. just because i hunt and fish for much of my food does not make me a ruthless killer with no respect for the wildlife, without it my main food supply would be gone.

well first off its not about how big the fish is, sure its easy to hit but the hard part is finding them and getting close enough to shoot, these aren't sniper rifles. ever tried spearfishing? you have to be very comfortable in water. gotta hold your breath, gotta be able to clear your ears, reach depth and stay there, be quiet, not get excited (kills your bottom time). stalk your prey, even a small sheepshead will bolt if you move aggresively. you should try something before you deem it as easy

Marlin are far more heroic than the pathetic, insecure posers that seek personal glory. Yes marlin are a challenge in terms of strength, but once they have a spear though them, well its all down to a slow death isn't it?
