Usually the difference in sharpness isn't very big betweem all Lenses..
so nobody's saying the 17-40 L is bad, but in terms of sharpness it is still at the lower end..
And for a crop sensor it's useless anyway there are way better lenses for crop like 17-55 IS or the Tamron 17-50 or the Sigma one.. The 17-40 however is a good UWA lens if you have Full frame and if you're on a budget or dont want the 16-35.
@coolvman99 in my opinion , that space in between simply semi expert and professional is little today. d7000 is perhaps all everyone want. go to... freedslr(.)com remove () and get the chance to win a new Nikon D7000
i have both of these cameras as well as a 5d mark2, the 50d is way better than the 450d images are alot clearer. those who say save the money and buy a better lens is a naive comment. the budget dslrs such as the 450 no way use the L lens to their full capabilities, then i would be a waste of money
@bdbdbdaaaaaaaaaa no camera can use an L lens to their full capabilities. the higher end L lenses have a lpmm of over 100 the 50d has 96 lpmm. the 450d has 87. lenses can last for over 10 years no problem. i've seen people holding 80-200mm L's which was produced in 1989. does your camera body last 20 years?
lastly, lenses have more value as it is easier to sell them than camera bodies, and are more easily liquidated. which is why you get a cheaper camera first when starting out and then upgrade
I just upgraded from a 20D to a 50D I find those cameras feel more solid than the 450D, as for a good quality lens you dont have to always be in a hurry to get it all unless you are going to be doing it professionally, that is the problem with alot of people they want everything all at once.
People that buy higher end bodies are usually prepared to spend a fair bit on the lenses or already own good lenses to start with.
If you buy a cheap body then the chances of missing the shot you really want becomes higher especially in fast action photography where a higher frame per second can make a big difference. There's also a fairly big difference from the cheaper to more expensive bodies in build quality and features.
@TwistLosi I'm very well aware of that. However to someone who is entering the realm of digital photography the upgrade path for cameras are usually: XXXD --> XD.
Usually when you see people running around with XXD's they are GWC's and get gawked at.
When one is already willing to spend a large amount of money on photography oftentimes they start with a 5d2 or a 7d.
I've seen too many users running around with a XXD at workshops we host clueless about their camera and shooting in auto mode.
@JPettsProductions hes got a 17-40. do you know how soft that shit is? the distortion at 17? unless you're just trying to look cool, its essentially a paperweight. splurge and get a 16-35.
@haloavenger its a 17-40 i couldnt tell yeah fair nuff, my friend got rid of his like 1 month after he first bought it, the 16-35 tht is some nice glass :) i can only wish !
@haloavenger you have one? You don't have to tell me about the lens I own. I compared it to my 70-200 2.8 and 50 1.4. It is very good. It has produced very good images for the newspaper I shoot for. Works for me, gets the job done, all that I need. People show off equipment, but the most essential tool is behind the camera.
I have the 50D and it must be the nicest shutter sound from canon, dosnt sound all electronic and crappy lik the 450D and the 1000D has a real solid KACHUNK!!! to it haha, god it looks large with the grip on it next to the poor litle 450
Shooting concerts and productions, the 450D shutter sound sticks out like dogs balls... Its high pitched computerized sounding shutter stuck out during actor monologue and the like. With the 50D, although its not much quieter, its noise isnt anywhere near as noticable and it sounds much better I think.
Still, nothing beats the well oiled machine sound of a 1D MK IIn\1D MK III :D
Spot on. It's the results that count. And for that the photographer is still the key to that. That's without even considering the price difference between the camers! The 50D might sound better, but who cares indeed?

to be perfectly frank, the 50d isn't anything like an expensive body xD

But still... 50d is amazing...
but i'd rather buy something cheaper and spend on lens than spend alot on the body and have a 18/55 kit lens!

The 50D has picrofocus adjustment which means it can get sharper images then the 450D, also only having one scroll wheel on the rebel really sucks.

not good atmosphere to put cameras on. You need something like on a table or something and it should be a lighter color

@TwistLosi what do you suggest? buy a more expensive camera and have no money to spend on glass?
its the glass that matters more than the camera.

sucker.

@donttrustany1 its okay, i already have a 5d.
also 40D > 50D for the listed price. The 50d and the 60d has almost nothing new to offer to the xxline. its the most gimped line of canon right now.

@haloavenger The 17-40 is a good lens, I don't know what you're talking about. I have one, and I'm really happy with it, it isn't soft at all.
Johncar435 1 year ago
@Johncar435 1) its very slow
2) as a L lens, its very soft. non L primes easily destroy it in terms of sharpness.

50d it is way much better, Weather sealed, better quality, magnesium body... and so on...
I really like the sound of 50d shooting, sounds like a really machine, not crappy plastic shooting like the other series.
I have bought yearly this year, and I'm really happy...
Maybe one day i will buy a full frame..
