Despite his grumpy and xenophobic personality, Kerchak definitely has a strong sense of righteousness. He unconditionally protects all members of the family when necessary, and will not back down from any threat. When Tublat lunges at Tarzan and the other young gorillas, Kerchak comes in with a textbook attack, despite his clear dislike for Tarzan.

In the book version of Tarzan, Tarzan fights Tublat and almost kills him ( though his name is Terkoz in the book) becouse he kidnaped Jane to be his wife. The word he's saying is Ka-goda, and in the book it means "do you surrender" or "surrender"
