Hubba whah?!! Who made this? When? And where was this seen? It's an incredibly vivid rendition of the original comic strip, adapted into a another medium. Great job, whoever you are.
@YAUUN There exists out there, somewhere, another short animated cartoon of Krazy Kat, it was made for Sesame Street in the 70s - and it was good! The art was all done with that same rough, raspy style of Herriman, the original look and feel - it really looked like Herriman had done the animation himself. It was quirky and silly, yet poignant, the characters were trying to express the concept of "love"
Are you serious?! Wow. With all that Sesame Street has done in recent years in opening up hundreds of its old segments up to the public via the net and DVD, I hope that particular one gets to see the light of day.
I had no idea these had been made into cartoons! This has been my favourite comic strip ever since I stumbled across a book of them in the library when I was younger...
I wuvva you, I wuvva you, I wuvva you.... My youth was nothing but my watching Krazy Kat and Inats,, My mother to this day still hates this cartoon...
i used to watch krazy kat when i was very young like the age 10 or 9 me and my brother used to wake up real early on saturdays morning like 6 and krazy kat used to be on like 7 those were the days in the early 70ths i wish they had some krazy kat cartoons on you tube
It did say at 35 seconds that "Krazy has one thing on HIS mind...Ignatz." So its a 3 way gay love triangle, and all this time as a kid I was watching a drag queen and two dudes fighting over him. That explains a lot on how I ended up the way I did, lol. Thanks for posting!
Although this has been mentioned already, according to George Herriman himself (the creator and artist of the comic strip), Krazy was neither male nor female. There was no underlying "gay" implication.
...even if Herriman was trying to be "edgy" by making Krazy hermaphroditic or gender neutral, Krazy's gender is obviously left up to the viewer to decide on a case-by-case basis EVEN THOUGHT the kitty's wearing a bow around ITS neck...gender aside, love is love... ~:0)
total agreement. Terrific animation. The narrator states the premise of the strip to the uniniated- a simple plot line that never got redundant throughout the life of the strip
Yeah thats the way its stated on wikipedia. Those cartoons were my favorite as a kid and Krazy was definetly a girl in them, so thats the way I remember it as being. There was something about seeing a cat (a girl cat) get hit in the head over and over with a brick (thrown by a male mouse) that I could never get enough of it, lol. Better even then when Popeye ate his spinach and kicked Bluto's behind, or the Thing would say "it's clobberin time", it was so obscene and so addictive to watch.
...yeah, and the red bow around the neck also kinda slants the gender towards being female...i don't care either way, but seeing Krazy as hermaphroditic isn't necessary info in my head (aka 'subconscious clutter') - kinda takes away from just enjoying the groovy action - maybe Herriman wanted social discourse to take place, like we're having now..? THANKS, GEO!... ~:0)
@k66omega well I've been researching Herriman for some time, and I recall him giving this answer when questioned about Krazy's gender:
"I don't know. I fooled around with it once; began to think Krazy was a girl, even drew up some strips of her being pregnant. It wasn't the Kat anymore. Then I realised Krazy was something of a sprite, an elf. They have no sex. So the Kat can't be a he or a she. The Kat's a sprite-apixie-free to butt into anything. See what I mean?"
This is pure genius! George Herriman must be grinning in his grave. Just one criticism: Krazy is an androgynous Kat, of indeterminate gender, but otherwise, a masterpiece!
Actually Herriman was cremated and his ashes were spread over monument valley, his drawing desk, ink, and cartooning utensils. Not buried. Yeah-i knooow its just a figure of speech..!
Thanks for the info. I didn't know Herriman's final disposition, but that's very interesting, it's kind of like his spirit is out there blowing around Monument Valley, with the "Two Mittens" applauding him... very cool.
GREAT! I second Freethinker82. The creator of Krazy would love it! And the characters are very well made and according to their original features. Very good!
I don't think I ever saw the original versions of this cartoon. I just remember that whenever she (the cat) was around the mouse, she had all these little hearts eminating from her body. So, in the later versions, the cat was definately a female.
i agree that the 1916 krazy shouldn't be copyright now, but this creates something new and tthe creator at least deserves to get credit for it. But who's the creator? When? Anyone know?
What studio is this, they did a fantastic job!!!

The narrator sounds very familiar. Who is it? Anyone know?
In any case, try watching this without the narrator. Works just as well (if not slightly better).

@TwigDjango I bet it's not him, but the narrator sounds kinda like John Travolta, in his younger days

I'd love to see this with only the music, since I already know what the strip is about. Animation is great though, and really "gets" Krazy.

was undertermined? But? In the KFS TV Cartoons.."Krazy Kat"is a female feline.

Note to xohottbabexo:
Um,actually,Krazy Kat is more like stuck in the 1930's & 1940's,As that is when the strip originally ran.
The TV adaptation however did come to fruition in the 1960's.
As an aside, how many of ya think that a comic strip revival would be oh so perfect if it were helmed exclusively by none other than David Feiss?
One o'my m8's does opine that Cow & Chicken just HAFTA have Krazy,Ignatz,or anyone from Coconino County as a part of their family roots,LOL!
Thanx fer this, eh?
