One of the best songs of the 90s, although it sounds like a brilliantly remixed song of the 80s. Extremely clever and amusing lyrics in the first verse especially. What a voice!
By the time this was released I'd abandoned pop for rock music, but I still love this, and I still love Jo and Sue (especially Jo), and if I had an ipod this would be on heavy rotation.
Happenstance an episode unplanned, Alone in time Coincidence, the second chance Re-sounding like a rhyme How paths may cross against the odds To wreck the plans you made Among the crowd a face that smiles To melt your masquerade If only I could see you Says the stranger deep inside And lets you know that when you were So sure you really lied If only I could see you Says the voice within your brain And quietly, insistently It says it once again!!..
@billdoss2 great song . love the octupus album. love the new credo album. will definetly be buying, i,m a big human league fan since the early days of being boiled.
I consider myself as one of your fans despite Im not so young but one thing i wanna say; the 80 s was the best time forever, I miss those days. Nowadays the most of music is fuc.......... bull shit
This song is, IMO, their best song since 1982's "Don't You Want Me" - pretty good for an 80s band having a hit in 1995. Not to mention the song made it into the top ten on the Radio & Records chart that spring.
As for the band having new material in 2010, I wouldn't bet on it having any top 40 hits in the US. Blame it on modern artists such as Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Beyonce, Katy Perry, T-Pain, and other artists/bands that are dominating the charts nowadays.
@JonSea31 I agree with you. I think this is their best song since Don't you want me. And again it's a very fun song with clever lyrics. I'll never forget this part:
@Chetano this is NOT an Oldie, what are you talking about,
Only 15 years man, also I noticed you edited the prelude, you can find the complete version in the album OCTOPUS, If you got it... I love that album, my most precious human league album
I will say it again...THIS BAND ROCKS - I AM PUMPED THAT THEY ARE COMING OUT WITH SOME NEW MATERIAL!!!!! THE GIRLS ARE SO FINE, THEY GOT PRETTIER WITH AGE, AND PHIL OAKEY IS A PRETTY MAN! (I SWEAR I AM STRAIGHT!) IF I HAD HIS TALENT AND LOOKS, I'D RULE THE WORLD, ROCK ON HUMAN LEAGUE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If you ever go to Prague make sure your there on a weekend ...its the only time of the week you can walk through the gardens seen in this video...I was only able to see them from Prague Castle on a Monday ;-(...you can see the grotto quite clearly from there though....it's a beautiful place!!!
they don,t look the glam romantics i have seen in other vids. Is this possibly 90s evolution of them? Someone please tell me. I love the song and played it in the bar i run.
Love the Human League. Seen them in 80s revival shows around the country. This song should have been much more successful than it was. Looking forward to the new material coming out.
pero que sensibles.. 0 tolerancia una opinion difernte, parece que estuvieramos en guerra..., que mal... , los 80`s no fueron asi por si no lo aben, bueno que saco con discutir con intolerantes
Such a strong comeback. Shame they couldn't follow it up with some equally good material. It was pop music of this quality that made them so big in the 80s. If they'd kept on making records like this one, they'd have been just as popular in the 90s.
I think it might actually be the first time I've heard this since it came out. I recall dubbing it from a Now 30 compilation when I was about 13 or 14. A good comeback track, staying true to their electropop roots.
