I HAVE 2 HITACHI TVS, 4 YEARS OLD AND IT BROKE!!! THE FUNNY PART? THEY NO LONGER MAKE THE PARTS TO REPAIR IT. DON'T EVER BUY A HITACHI. IS JUST GARBAGE.
When you plug the hdmi cables between this tv and the dvd blu- ray player man! the movie is 1080p so sharp, may be I`m wrong but I`m pretty happy with this tv, I know the new tvs are better but I gonna stay with this for a while.
I wanted to buy this TV but because this TV was still very expensive in Canada back in end of 2007 all I could do was curse the lucky american people who lived in U.S. for getting all the good deals, that is until March 2008.
I finally had chance to purchase this HDTV on Visions new opening & clearance sales.
I bought P42H401A which is revision of P42H401 I believe(but all I could find different between two was that P42H401A had updated firmware and couldn't find any other difference).
BTW I don't really know native resolution for this Plasma HDTV.
It has 1024x1080 resolution which should qualify for 1080i but when I plug HDMI to my PS3 and Xbox 360 it input as 1080p so I'm guessing this TV can display 1080p to some degree but probably wouldn't display full HD due to lack of enough resolutions.
BTW I found out from the service menu that I only watched about 1,600 hours of this HDTV and I believe this Plasma HDTV has upto 60,000 hours and 30,000 hours is the half life.
I don`t know what is happening, but I connect my sony dvd player blu ray and is working pretty good the pictures are to sharp to cristal and I love it very much. In hd with hdmi monster cables my hd movies is 1080p and I`m not kidding you.
my laptop pc is a media center edition i have a lot of hi definition videos on it and i´m gona buy the hitachi 42pd8700 can i see them with the vga cable conectect or i can only see hi definition with hdmi or dvi
i just got the TV but there is like a menu on the bottom so it is hard to watch TV. How do u fix that?

It may be like $1500 more than two years ago, now is so cheap.

They don't even sell this TV anymore at least not from major retailers.
This TV cost $1800 when it was first released back in 2007 but by end of 2007 this TV was sold for less than $1000 from Best Buy and Circuit City.
Cheapest price I seen for this TV was $699 when either Circuit City or Sears(I can't remember now) had clearance sale.

For $799 Canadian Dollars, back then it was one of the best deal you could find, at least in Canada.
This was the last time I seen this TV went for sale, at least from major retailers.
Overall I'm happy with my Hitachi 42" Plasma HDTV P42H401A.

HDMI should the best option, but my computer doesn't have it. I think a Mini-DVI to Video Adapter should do it. Thank you for responding.

Can you connect a computer to that TV? I have one, and I have been wondering if it's possible to do that.
MoslimKid 4 years ago
well many people don't know that with a third input this TV becomes a 1080P, read your manuals people.

What? could you explain that better?
vivalaresistanc 3 years ago
circuitcity shows this model as 1080i instead of 1080p. Either you or circuitcity is wrong
