  • Is this for real??? F...antastic! :))

  • Piss on it!

  • That's one giant looking electric mosquito trap.

  • solid snake would have a hard time bypassing this but not batman!!

  • shit if you INTENTIONALLY walk into that thing, you deserve everything you get.

  • mirrors would be nice.

  • ZZZZAAP!

  • Sounds like a badass techno song. lol

  • This is some bond villain level stuf

  • I want to build a high powered one use it on the drug cartels

  • Do you have any idea as to what kind of laser is required to do this? Is it the frequency, the strength? What sets these lasers apart from the high powered laser pointers that astronomers use? Any reply would be greatly appreciated

  • @Flashfire97 These look like 193nm lasers, which break down nitrogen in air, creating plasma. 193nm laser is kind of hard to make, if I am correct, they use Argon and Fluorine in an excited state as a medium. If you have enough money, you can buy such a laser, as these are used for eye surgery. These are something completely different to high power laser pointers. I dont think you will be able to buy these as laser diodes any time soon.

  • @Mato0092 Thank you very much for the information. Now off to the bank to take out a small loan...

  • good. can finally kill those really really big bugs...

  • Finally! Now we have the technology to create a REAL lighting gun. Tesla wold be proud!

  • They should attach one of those UV lasers to a rifle to use it as a non lethal option. Or Attach a much bigger version to a tank and fuck some shit up!

  • and so those things they put on the doors of the enterprise to detain criminals begins

  • can I frickin attach these to my frickin sharks' frickin heads?

  • I see a problem with this.

Whats to stop you from just WALKING THE FUCK THROUGH IT?

Hell, most people that accidentally walk through one of these, will be, you know, WALKING. FORWARD. So the crumbling human hot pocket will most likely fall forward, through the gate.

I could only imagine what a running start would result in.

  • @Lazypackmule have you heard about the latest invention? its called a WARNING SIGN. you know, like "high voltage" or "highly radioactive" - that way you can weed out only the true dumb asses that dont bother reading important messages as well as people who cant even read at all. good thing youve never been in a dangerous place, huh?

  • @Novashank Well, let's say that I wanted to get into a place guarded by one of these, or an idiot just didn't see a sign posted somewhere on a fucking wall, it would still be completely useless at keeping people out.

Unless you are a stupid person that knew it was there, in that case, just the sign would be enough to scare him away.

So yes, I agree with you, the sign is much more effective than this. Though I guess you won't read this either.

  • @Lazypackmule this is most likely a prototype and im sure the real thing will be more effective, if thats even necessary, and thats where the sign (which must legally be made obvious, saying something to the effect of "fuctard no enter - just try it and see what happens") comes in. if the real plasma gate fails, there WILL be a proven alternative like ADWS's (still calls for a sign).

  • @Novashank An electric fence with a gate would actually stop someone, where getting through this only requires that you lean slightly forward while walking through it(unless you are one of those people that just shrugs off a taser).

And I'm assuming that by "alternative" you mean security guards or something. Which would be just as good by themselves. This wall only stops people with heart conditions, which isn't a very redeemable quality.

  • I gotta say. it's got a nice beat.

  • I bet with a running jump and impeccable timing, you could get through it while it isn't voltaging

  • @berretaboy357 You go try that. I'll be right behind you.

    Waaaaaay behind you.

  • Taser shot ---> |LIPC| = Karma.

  • Check out my homepage for further experiments using laser. There are several easy to do examples to split the beam, modulate on of the two and then recombine them to produce low frequency beats. These beats should be able to induce currents into the body to transmit sound or steer muscles if used with high power lasers. You dont even need a laser, this can be done with ordinary light and heat radiation as well. The double slit experiment mostly is done with an ordinary light source.

  • @wwwtotalitaerde usually the double slit is done with a cathode ray generator.

  • dawn of the ray gun

  • That won't be the slightest bit annoying in the office

  • you could just emp it and youd be fine

  • What if someone throws u through that field?

  • Your move, Mister Bond

  • Now all we need is a kickin' bass line

    OONTZ, OONTZ, OONTZ

  • Lets see you try and get my porn now!

  • Sounds like Autechre

  • That's a hot beat...

  • where is this at ?

  • It seems like you could just build up enough speed and just jump through. It would hurt a bit, but it doesn't seem like you would be exposed enough for it to actually stop you.

  • @skyspydude1 ok you and usain bolt can do a hundred metre sprint through them

  • @robertpenmanwc13 It really doesn't seem like you would need to be going that fast. It isn't a solid. If you jump through, you'll keep going through regardless of whether you have muscle control with inertia.

  • @skyspydude1 i meant a constant hundred metres of them zapping you while you run

  • @skyspydude1 Depends on the pulse strength. If just one of those zaps stops your heart, you'll go through the barrier, but be dead / dying when you land.

  • @QuadniverousBeast I believe the whole point of these is that they are supposed to be non-lethal. It seems like there would be a pretty big legal issue if you were to have one of these and someone were to die in them.

  • just think you will able to have a hand held laser pointer stun gun COOL

  • is this an actual security thing or just for proof of concept? because according to the video it looks like I can just dive right through the space in between the lines and not get hurt?

  • @theguyi26 seen as your not a conductor when you jump maybe theres a chance... nah youd be fucked

  • What a show!

  • It sounds like the teleporter from kinder toten on black ops.

  • does anyone know what the specs are for this plasma induced laser setup?

  • Gods sake, it's a LASER INDUCED plasma channel. This means that the plasma is created BY A LASER.

  • huge stun gun!

  • Just crawl the fuck under it?

  • SCIENCE!!!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • What is the wavelength and power of these lasers? Does anyone know? Thanks :)

  • @Mato0092 it's not a laser, read the description. the plasma is used as a path for the electricity to move along instead of randomly forking out looking for a grounded object (like lightning does)

  • @AlchemyOfHate Both name of this video and description say that these plasma channels are induced by lasers. The thin beam breaks down atoms of nitrogen (or other gas), which relieve free electrons. Thats why plasma channel conducts the electricity.

  • @Mato0092 it's plasma, not a laser.

  • @yourcathatesme The thing we see is a plasma, but it is induced by laser, and I wanted to know it's wavelength. Anyway, I looked it up and found out that it is 193 nm.

  • @Mato0092 ah. sorry for my stoopidness :D

  • I gotta say, if you really want an effective deterrent, you can't do better than this. The science of non-/less lethal weaponry is tricky, but even the most knucklebrained crook understands that lightning constantly shooting across the room = STAY THE HELL OUT.

  • My first comment was in fact to simple to be 100% true. even 1000000000 volts would have a hard time killing you outright with no amps. but if you trade of even a tiny fraction of those volts for amps you will be able to kill any human, no matter how drugged up. 100 volts with 4 amps will kill any human and a lot, if not all, of the animals on the earth if it hits them.

  • "You go first"

  • Useless alone, jump through it and you'll be trashing around on the floor for 30 seconds before you're up and running again.

  • Yo dog, I heard you liked electric currents, so we put electricity in your laser so you can fry while you burn!

Is this for an industrial application like an improved laser cutting system, or is it for pure physics research like studying electric discharges?

  • @looksintolasers Actually it's basically a forcefield. You go somewhere you ain't supposed to, bzzzzzap. It uses only volts, so it won't kill you (unless you have a heart condition or are particularly more-flammable-than-regular-humans).

  • the anser to megasword33's queston and the disproving fact for YourGodStalin's claim is that these things can easly run at 100000000 to 1000000000 volts. so yes these are close to lightling guns.

  • I love the idea that putting this into gloves (like in "Daemon") pretty much gives someone the ability to cast Force Lightning.

  • I'm going to build one, put it into a glove, then find a hot woman who asks "anyone have a light?". I will promptly point my finger at the end of her cigarette and light it ablaze!

  • how powerful are these lasers?

  • @megasword33 i read somewhere they were 1.21 gigawatts.

  • @H31MU7 they would have to be huge I find trhat hard to believe ://

  • I meant to say ionize. Dang auto spell correct.

  • Using this technology people could theoretically create a lightning gun?of course it would take mass amounts of power to run a laser that could iodize the air enough to carry an electric charge a good distance. They might need to use a backpack based battery source though.

  • Next, they'll invent a door.

  • The aperture science emancipation grid?

  • un tiss un tiss un tiss un tiss..

  • how much would this cost to put in a home? and what would it do to someone if they walked through?

  • @thugdoutDUNN you got any BBQ sauce to go with those spare ribs?

  • @robertpenmanwc13 heh heh I guess theres my answer

  • now all it needs to do is slice people up when they walk through it and we can have Resident Evil LARPs.

  • An incredible amount of money for something that won't even do what they built it for. What a shame.

  • take a piece of cardboard , put in front of beams, cross like you're so cool.

  • Funny thing is, it probably wouldn't stop some crazy drugged up person running through it.

  • looks like it stings a little

  • Uh.. Is there enough clearance under it to just _crawl_?

  • @TheGreatDefective path of least resistance... your body is a better conductor than the air so it would jump to you... better off just running thru it... wouldn't do much damage even if it hit you probably.

  • how do you make one of these

  • cool

  • Wow, that's just like those laser gates in Dino Crisis. (PS1)

  • Feel free to correct me, but it looks like you can just... crawl under it?

  • @Jenga666

The point, retard, is that it's a tech demo. Not an actual functioning security system asshole.

  • @thomasford Ok you don't have to be such a nigger about it.

  • So.. what would happen if i walked through there wearing a batman suit?

That armors fucking made of rubber! :O

  • HELP WANTED: Slinky female acrobat. Must be able to fit a size six leather cat-suit. Ability to fit tools inside cleavage not required but preferred. Criminal records do not matter.

  • @agolosha DISTRICT 9, fooking prawns

  • ok, so why no arc the lightning somewhere else, maybe but a arcing orb near the thing, or throw feces at it. either way. :/

  • What size are the lasers and wavelength do they operate on?

  • @Paradoxmagic

    Its probably a fs laser...USP.

    Or maybe a high-tech-UV-pulse laser...not quiet sure.

  • @AnselmoFanZero perhaps, but if anything it would have to pack one hell of a punch to do that. Ionize air enough to guide electricity any idea the wattage involved?

  • @Paradoxmagic

Funny thing is, you dont even need that much power imo. A fs-laser with 3.5W nominal can generate 100GW pulses. Better Eff. than UV excimer lasers...

  • dont tase me bro

  • well throw something/one in there already!

  • Don't touch the laser grid or it will taze you.

  • Any wannabe DJ's out there? This'lll get the whole room dancing, hell i'm Tapping my feet juSt looking at it.

  • i bet i can get through to the other side....

  • They can be set to kill you......

  • then i bet my body would get to the other side.

  • "A noticeable taste of blood is not part of Enrichment Centre procedures. It is however an unexplained side effect of the material emancipation grid. In semi-rare cases the emancipation grid has been known to emancipate dental fillings, crowns, tooth enamel and teeth."

  • @HolyCodecs what about flesh and internal organs?

  • @HolyCodecs What?

  • Set phasers on stun, Mr. Worf!

  • I wonder if it will stop a portal....

  • Hell yea, time for prison cells to look like that in sci-fi movies. :)

  • im shocked

  • or you could put in a door and then put a lock on the door. and if you wanted to be extra secure make that door out of metal.

  • To any electrical engineers out there. I've heard that a weaponized version of the LIPC can stopped with a simple layer of rubber. Can anyone clarify? If the Voltage is high enough, can it still cause burn damage?

  • yes but if you are wearing it, the rubber has to be long enough to cover you while you walk through it. There are 3 beams and it looks like it's arcing horizontally and not diagonally so you would need 3 sheets of rubber (1 per beam ) This will not work if the + and - switch for example if the top left and middle right are active and you're not protected, the electrons will still travel through you if you are in the center. An easier way to bypass this is to use a fan and not let the air ionize.

  • wow making scifi security a reality

  • Seems mightly complicated for something that can be defeated by a hammer duct taped to a fiberglass pole lmao. Hammer for smashing, fiberglass pole for no shocking

  • Try and and i'll watch from a distance.

  • Try walking into a security building with your contraption. Also: loud hammer glass breaking noises.

  • Haha ready for some Beyond - Good and Evil IRL?

  • Damn I am i only one hearing a sick rythm coming off this thing? =P

  • Nope. Sickass rhythm-check.

  • Well...UV lasers...low range...IR lasers high range. You need way less energy. Plus: I dont even know how to force the current going down the ionized channel. Would be easier to go back to the laser to ground....know what I mean?

Would be a nice DIY project...

  • I'm no physicist. But it works. It's not a new idea. Supposedly, one of them could shoot down aircraft a 100miles+. This vid is the tiny version. google LIPC, there's pages of stuff to read on it.

  • Lot of informations, but nothing about shooting down aircraft.

Like I said before: Its way easier to generate IR beams...I dont know how efficient the electrolaser is, but IF it is that good, they would put more effort in it wouldnt they?

  • It would be great for AA or anti-ballistic missile defense. But it would have to be built alongside a power plant. So it's time has probably come and gone, until they figure out fusion power or antimatter/matter power, that is.

  • Guess thats why they use solid-state and chemical-lasers for military-applications.

By the way: I cant imagine, that the impact of a electrolaser looks similar to a IR laser-hit. Dont even know how many Amps max go down the channel.

  • Supposedly, the effect would be mostly dependent on the capacity of the capacitors used. It would be cool to see one test fired !

  • Would be very cool....

You can't just let 40,000A going down the channel. Depends on the channel...of course...the channel is not that wide I believe. Would need huge amounts of energy...I thought about trying out a marx-fired nitrogen laser plus some 40kV doorknobs.

  • You know waaaaaaaaay more than I do about it! I don't even know what you just said.....lol

  • Do you have any idea how UV laser-radiation is generated?

  • Generally they use UV lasers.

  • No really? -__- Excimer lasers? Or will a marx-laser do the job? Guess a TEA laser wont work. Maybe the pulses would be strong enough, but the beam shape is crap. LE N2 lasers are too weak.

  • Nope. Got any good reference material to suggest?

  • Why next to a power plant, use a tesla coil. And maybe a capacitor bank. You only have to Ionize the air to make it conductive. It's all about V's not A's.

  • Gotcha. Good thing I'm not an electrician. Houses would burn...

  • Volts = Pain. Amps = Death.

    HOORAY ELECTRICITY!

  • This beam could be scaled up to shoot down aircraft or even ICBMs. Directed lighting. Thor in a can.

  • Then the plane should also have something that makes shuer the lightning ends up in the plane. Or how did you think you'd control the electricity? Just would like to know. :P

  • Dual laser beams alter the air they pass through. They create a plasma channel. Plasma is quite conductive. At that moment, electricity is discharged in that direction. It follows the path of least resistance, the plasma. Some lightning bolts are created in the same manner. Cosmic rays passing through the atmosphere create a path as well as causing a charge imbalance in the upper atmos. or clouds. Bolt follows path. Boom.

  • Just use the THEL....way easier and better for higher ranges.

  • The 2stage needs HUGE amounts of power. The smallest system would probably only fit on a battleship (if only we had some left). The upside-extreme accuracy, insane ranges. Lighting will drop an aircraft faster than any missile. And it doesn't need reload. It's got its uses. Supposedly the concept was originally Tesla's.

  • dude...we're advancing at a much faster rate then i could have ever imagined. i mean, here we are with a functional, though not by scfi standards, force field. and have you seen natal and milo from E3? that's advanced AI and motion sensing technology. stuff i thought i be seeing when i was like 60, not 17

  • @theblazingraven I, we are lucky, fantastic age to be living in mate, so live your life, without worry (i.e trivial stuff, religion, hell, etc etc.) VIVA

  • I want this for my House....

  • Dude, just hand me a gravity gun and I'll pull the plug.

  • too easy to disarm the system !

  • We could see it in the next James Bond movie as a security system. They had to explain the technology in an other video.

  • Someone needs to use this as a drum beat.

  • just like in the game Deus Ex

  • Almost...

  • is this a security system

  • Presumably this is intended as a security system which doesn't permenantly harm anyone who comes into contact with it? What's to stop someone just jumping through it?

  • Comment removed

  • Jumping through it might sound like a good idea.. but you'll be paralysed and possibly screaming for a few moments afterward, and I'm betting they have added a simple electric eye to the system, to alert nearby guards to the intrusion. By the time you recover from being electrocuted, the guards will be slapping handcuffs on you.

  • Nothing.

Security will simply sweep up your incinerated remains the next morning.

  • @davejuk well, it might just stick to you more a couple feet, so

    A(you) I A(jumped = I(system)--(arc)-------A

  • I can just picture it now..

"Bet you can't jump through it.."

    "You're on!"

  • Oooooh, shiny....

*Zapped like a bug; corridor reeks of burned flesh and hair*

  • I don't suppose you would be able to roll under it. X(

  • lol, this will become the resident evil blue laser ;-)

  • XD lol

  • "you're all going to die down here... "

  • LOL

  • @VALKIR4636 mayo, then walk thru

  • *Seizure of Power starts playing*

  • what dose this do is it like a tazer or something when u walk through it dose it shock u ??

  • search 10,000 volts in google
