  • The mere fact of George Hearn's existence is a reason to live! His voice may very well be proof of the existence of God.

  • You know what "dancing" is code for.

  • I sang this song with one of my best friends, and my part was George Hearn's part!

  • OMG-John-Barrowman-and-George-Hearn-singing-together-they're-my-two-favourite-people-ever-singing-my-favourite-ever-musical-what-is-this-I-can't-even-oh-my-god-I-need-a-moment. Wow.

  • I can't listen to this just once, i always have to repeat it. It's absolutely beautiful. George is my all-time favorite performer, and I love John as well.

  • George Hearn is such a BOSS

  • Just when I thought he couldn't get any better. The entire time I was watching this and gaping at how amazing John is. <3

  • <3<3 I look at him and am like

    ' Oh gawd I want him!! '

    and that makes me sad...

    cause i can't have him

  • I LOVE SWEENEY TODD.. and now im having an epic john barrowman obsession... SO TOGETHER ITS HEAVEN :D

  • anything john sings is so good i cant stop listening to his music!

  • Thanks for that Captain Jack, once again you find a way to give me the weirdest boner....

  • My husband loved this song...he passed away last year..this made me remember how much he loved this.

  • @pipkinsweetgrass My condolences. :(

  • Watched Bon Jovi alive singing this, that concert may be the best moments of my life but John just melts my heart

  • I love this song.

  • Beautiful song, I love these two together

I'm always amazed at how innocent songs from Sweeny Todd sound out of context. 'Not While I'm Around' is another one, out of context it sounds like a normal lullaby.

  • I loved this.

I wish John's voice was a bit deeper/ more psychotic.

    George was amazing.

  • Jack Hark'ness should start singing. Life would be good.

  • A jó találkozása a jóval.

  • nothing on johnny of course.

  • ohhhhh Sondheim... what to say?!

  • OMG JOHN BARROWMAN WOULD BE THE BESTEST WICKEDEST SWEENY TODD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! *sorry .... spazzy john-lover moment*

  • @Iloveorliandwicked Hmm, probably. George makes for the best Sweeney Todd, though. :)

  • @ResplendentShadows Yeah agreed! But it would be super neat to see John's twist on it!

  • Two INCREDIBLE voices that I never thought I would hear together! Fantastic mixure!

  • John is brilliant in this holy cow!!!

  • Huh, a part switch for Hearn, that's interesting.

  • john barrowman is amazing

  • Beautiful :)

  • i expected something else but I love sweeny todd and John's voice is just so beautiful

  • Holy crap! i was looking for something else, but when i saw that i was like "Barrowman and Hearn!? wtf i gotta see this!"

  • Genius.

  • i love Barrowman's voice >.<

  • awesome sound ~~ just a lullaby for me tonite !~

  • This is epic. I think Barrowman should have been Sweeney in the movie, although I do adore Johnny Depp.

  • More like pretty men. Heheheheh.

  • oh, john is such a beautiful man, a fabulous artist, and a brilliant person, from everything I've seen him do. <3

  • I love the way John pronounces "Pretty Women"

  • SWEENEY TODD + CAPTAIN JACK = MY HEART MELTING

  • Dos artistas extraordinarios !!!!

  • That...was...stunning. Their voices are so gorgeous <3

  • Hearn is God.

  • I could listen to this all day.

  • i could listen to this all day

  • this song is so lovely! good combination of talent! xx

  • sweeney has become who he hated, lol. Hearn is very metal even if he doesnt realize it. \m/ \m/

  • Does anyone else find the percussive piano chords in this recording really jarring?

  • The contrast of their voices is an amazing part of this song - Barrowman is normally deeper from what I've heard.

  • Does he sing the "They all deserve to die" song too?=)

  • I love george hearn! best sweeney!

  • DAMN GEORGE HEARN!! He sounds NO different from when he did the tour way back when. That's amazing. Usually singers in their older age loose it a little bit, he still sounds great!

  • i'm in love too

  • Beautiful. I love the arrangement.

  • I love how amazing their voices are and George voice is so deep and beautiful! I love Sweeney Todd anything and I love how just a little different arrangement and a different context can change a whole song into something completely different its definitely a wonder of the theatre how that is possible

  • Love the irony lol

    It is pretty though

  • wow john barrowman should of been anthony in the movie

  • simply beautiful

  • First he was Sweeney now Turpin, and he always managed to be awesome.

  • this song is soo fukin harrd to do i swear and i have 2 do it 4 a performance come next week 2daii

  • goodluck!

  • Thankyoo!! ill need it lol, much obliged

  • guess you better get practicing

  • George Hearn - wow, what a beautiful, smooth baritone. Going to be a favourite of mine I think.

  • omg! omg! omg! I love this song from "Sweeney todd" ... didn't know he sang this ...

  • Oh my God. This is what I call perfection.

  • I watched this in Musical Theatre today for the first time, and I really liked this song out of context. I've listened to the song on the Sweeny Todd CD and thought, "This could make a really sweet stand alone song if we could get rid of the imminent murder bits." And here we go! They did a great job! LOVE!

  • Oh man.....John Barrowman singing this song is just amazing! Its even more awesome hearing George Hearn (the original Sweeney Todd) sing with him! Major points.

  • Amen to that! o.o

  • George Hearn isn't the original Sweeney Todd. That would be Len Cariou....Mr. Hearn was his replacement.

  • Oh thats right..my bad. Still brilliant nonetheless.

  • Only thing about taking it out of context... it makes the suspenseful part in the music near the end really seem out of place. Still, this is lovely : )

  • I wish this other guy were singing an octave lower! It seems too innocent for Pretty Women.

  • i think thats what they were going for

  • NEW FAVORITE THING

Along with bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens

  • Hearn is amazing in any part Sweeney or Judge, I prefer Sweeney, but I could never see Barrowman as Sweeney on stage, he doesn't have the chops or the personality, of Sweeney, I mean

  • he isn't the judge, this has nothing to do with todd other than the song

  • i understand that, but its just my point of view after seeing the production, and hearing this amazing song. Its one of my favs.

  • oh, see, i didn't know you gotta explain more

  • I find it super ironic that Hearn is singing the Judge. I think he'd be an awesome judge <33

  • Hearn is amazing. I loved him in Sweeney Todd.

  • @BoomChickie Haha, me too! I actually saw a production of Sweeney Todd in my town a couple summers again, and it had the same sort of irony: The Sweeney Todd in our production was the Judge Turpin from the revival cast (Mark Jacoby, i believe)

  • @BoomChickie You could argue that the monster that Todd becomes in the end is close to Judge Turpin - But I concur Hearn would make an excelent Judge :)

  • @BoomChickie the judge is always the lower voice. Hearn is baritone, but the guy who played the judge in the original musical had a really deep voice, deeper than Hearn's.

  • :_)

  • I personally prefer Cariou over Hearn, but I love their voices. :) Hearn is growing on me.

  • agreed lol

  • GAY POWER!!!!!

  • Poor George LOL. Having to be Turpin, instead of Todd. He must being feeling miserable. Either way, John does the song justice and of course, George is just the God of all Sweeneys so it's nice to have him in the song.

  • nice work Barrowman did well singing this song from Todd's Point of view

  • That's the point. They intentionally put it into a different light. The orchestration was changed as well to reflect a completely different mood than the original show.

  • Ohhhhh Beautiful!

  • George Hearn is Sweeney Todd.

  • George Hearn is perfection.

    I adore him. Gorgeous.

  • this is just freaking great

    first rickman now barrowman!? (L)

    xx

  • Technically... first Barrowman, now Rickman since Putting it Together was 1999... but, yes =)

  • Actually, I'd go for first Hearn, then Barrowman and now Rickman. :-P

  • love John Barrowman his voice is amazing and damn he is hot!

  • i cant stop looping this song. omg. why is barrowman's voice so amazing?

  • amazing. im crying O.O.. lol. they're got AMAZING voices. Sweeney Todd is the best musical, story, movie, and EVEYTHING in history! and then, John Barrowman knos of Sweeney Todd?!*drops to knees*

  • captain jack should sing on a future torchwood or dr who, but with tennant leaving, i doubt if he will be back, but then again, sara jane came back, so why not him, or martha, mickey, rose, or donna?

  • I don't think Tennant leaving will have any affect on that. Remember, Captain Jack first appeared with Eccleston, before Tennant.

  • this is ridiculously good

  • Awesome. Simply beautiful.

Now, I'd like to see John sing Johanna!

  • I enjoy this performance of the song. It is another take on the song in a context outside of Sweeney Todd, and thus cannot be fairly compared to where it originates. Having watched the entire revue previously, I must say that the song works beautifully in context.

Admittedly, hearing George Hearn sing this particular part is, different, but both men duet quite beautifully. (I'm a John Barrowman fan.)

  • george hearn's sweeney is just the definitive performance. what a voice!

  • i love this song. this most beauitful of sondhiem. but put in to context of the show the creepiest! you feel the highten feeling in those vamps hmmm love it nice to hear it solo for once

  • His voice is pretty. Besides that, he really shouldn't sing this song. He's sort of missing the point. It's same reason George Hearn shouldn't sing Johanna.

  • john is not supposed to be sweeney for this show. it is an entire showcase of Sonhiem songs. i love this version and it is very intreasting to see Hern sing the descant rather than the main melody. i might be in Todd this summer and was looking up the songs. i love Barrowman and Hern so this is doublely loved by me

  • yeah, obviously he is not meant to be Sweeney, anyone who knows this production will know th relationships and blah and w/e

but still, its a sweeny song, with the ultimate sweeney there, and you cant help but compare the performances in regards to the original context of how you recognise the song.

the song is recognisable and is even writen in the distinctive style as all sweeney songs, the different motivation behind this song could have been clearer.

  • Amazing singing. The only tiny problem is that I'm definitely not afraid of him.

  • Absolutely perfect.

  • love both of them!!

  • loved it :D

so peaceful and just so awesome!

love how hearn plays the judge

    ironic haha

  • Barrowman as sweeney....

    i think not

  • The song is originally from Sweeney Todd, but this scene is from the review Putting It Together. He's not supposed to be Sweeney here.

  • John Barrowman O_O

    Did a version of this...

    Wow...

I searched 'George Hearn' and this came up XD

  • this is good

    i love johns voice

  • It is a lovely version of the song.

  • This version of Pretty Women is so beautiful. It's even more spectacular with George Hearn, the man who sang it originally in the original Broadway run of Sweeney Todd, singing it.

  • Beautiful - thank you.
