Looks like a pile of bricks to me. I can't quite see how it's rocket stove if you're not using highly insulative materials. My understanding of the rocket stove concept is that burn efficiecy is key. I'm happy to be corrected.
You could mix hay/straw and mud to cover the outside. It will cover all the little gaps and its great insulation. :) If i can get some bricks hopefuly i'll build an Epic one this summer :)
@danielwills93 along with that idea the rocket stove should be "J" shaped to add to burn efficiency time. so instead of laying the sticks down down in video you'd extend that opening to create a tube with an opening so the stcks stand upright or60 degrees so wood burns from bottom. and yes cover it with hay/straw mud or clay. but that becomes a permanent fixture.
Yea it's a nice idea. Found it while stumbling videos. There is a link to the video I watched in my "Fruits of your labor" video, but I'll put it in this description too so more folks can see how it is done.
The zombies have already surrounded us they just don't know it yet.
Thanks. I saw a video about these while stumbling youtube an it looked like a good idea, so I figured I would give it a try. Of course in the videos I saw they made their own bricks, and the ones I used were found.
That's my next test. I think I need to add something to the top so it has some breathing room. As it is right now if I just sat a pan on top it would be smothered. Then I can see how long it takes to boil some water. The heat is well focused toward the top, and I couldn't feel any escaping from anywhere around it.
nice

@williroom Awesome comment. Thanks for the idea. I had been using some pieces from a broken terracotta pot, but your idea sounds much more stable.
