So if BP stock went down, he would make millions. He got caught, BP stock went up, he lost a lot of money, he was forced to resign from his own company. He openly lied to bring BP stock down. Many investment web sights reported on it. Just look for it. I found out about it because suddenly he was gone and I wanted to hear him more. Then I found that he shorted BP stock. He tried everything to bring BP to it's knees. We found later that probably a lot he said was not true. I hope. No one will ever know for sure now

On youtube there is an 8 part documentary featuring Matt Simmons talking about peak oil. There can be few people who are better informed and he communicates that knowledge well.

The world is a much poorer place without him; my condolences to his family and friends.

Undoubtedly his voice was uncomfortable for some groups but I hope this was no murder. Having read John Perkins - it is hard to know what to think.

You sound like a pretty level headed person. So with that in mind would you not agree that if there were any 'real' controversy over Matt Sommonds's death his family would have said so by now?. Now factor in that he was overweight and in his late 60's, had a stressfull life and also had a known heart condition. At the time of his cardiac arrest he was in a hot tub, which would have raised his heart rate. To me all of these factors are suggestive that he died of natural causes.

@cpgone I agree 100%, Simmons was not very physically fit 68 and was in a hot tub. I used to work with an older out of shape guy who had a heart attack and died after taking a long hot shower. The cardiologist explained how it can trigger cardiac arrest in high risk people. Simmons peak oil theory only was to inflate the price of crude due to an artificial scarcity. I love a good conspiracy but Simmons death was most likely natural.

He was the industry insider who for the last 3 1/2 months rebuffed the BP and Government line that everything was fine. He was regularly interviewed on shows like CNN etc. Because of his industry expertise he was CREDIBLE.

I word searched him at least 3 X's weekly to stay informed.

He was outspoken re the existance of the real well - a blown out hole-and it's continued gushing. He made enemies.

First reports out were that he drowned, now its a heart attack. I believe what Matt tried to tell us about the B.P. spill, the reason we are not seeing oil, is due to corexit being pumped into the oil stream as it came out of the seabed. Even now there are people who are finding this submerged oil in louisiana, yet the mainstream news continues to paint this rosey picture that most oil is gone. Fact is, the oil is probably still erupting from the seabed, just as Mr. Simmons has told us.
